Sad Day Indeed...............

Every time I open a B&W Army page, up pops a Legia Warsaw Vs Glasgow Blue Noses advert to buy TV coverage on Rangers TV channel!!!!!!! 😣

Can we please have SOME SENSE when it comes at accepting adverts on a B&W page?

Are adverts not based on your cookies ie your previous browsing history?

Yep, it has nothing to do with accepting advertising, when you get paid by advertisers they control what you see based on algorithms around search history and accepted cookies. Have you looked at any news stories on the blue bigots, Europa league or say Poland?

Ads are based on your browsing history Buddie.

So, you have obviously been spending too much time on the bluebellsareblue. Com... Lol

I can assure you that is NOT the case...…………….

In fact I can't really think of any other football based websites I've looked at in the past couple of weeks.

In any event my cookies get cleaned out at the end of each day so I don't have a history for these adverts to relate to, and then to appear randomly at the top of B&W...……. It's a mystery to me!

I'm not sure that is going to save you. Your ISP and other companies will still have records of your IP address and where you have been online. You are being continually tracked. I'm not even sure that a VPN would secure you completely either. It's the wild west out there.

Personally I don't see the point of all of this in terms of selling and advertising. Just because I bought stuff last week doesn't change the likelihood that I want to buy the same things again. This is all a massive con and a waste of time. I read a report somewhere that companies are slowly starting to understand that micro-focussing their advertising is a waste of time. There is absolutely no way to predict when and what will make people buy a specific product or service based on their surfing history with any sort of reliability at all.

So what you're saying, basically I'm stuffed whichever way I turn...………… I must start watching porn more often then as it might change my advert content to a more interesting slant if that is the case! 🤣

I'm afraid so.

For example, if you are using Facebook or Google products or services then you should assume your every move is being tracked and recorded for use in massive data mines which are for sale to anyone prepared to pay for access. That is the model on which the entire basis of free internet is based.

I get the Facebook / Google thing, as there has been more than sufficient info out there telling us that they collect and sell the info we all allow them to have, but I thought that cleaning out my machine each day would reduce that.

I also have noted as others have commented elsewhere that it's annoying to google something and for the next three of four hours every website you open has an advert for that product / service. Yes you accept it as part of life's poor tapestry in the browsing world that is the internet, but Legia Vs Rangers on the B&W website, surely out dearly beloved Mod can moderate that content, otherwise any mention of Rangers, Celtic, Aberdeen or  Hearts will see adverts for any / all of these teams appear on our beloved moaning platform!

Indeed.

Way too much made by the "everything is bad" crowd.

It's probably more generally football stuff which is triggering the advert.

Not sure whether Div can control those adverts or not. I have created my own website and know how to add specific adverts. It's pretty basic stuff though and I'm not sure whether that is done in the same way on this site.

As for your first sentence, whenever you enter any site you agree to their T+C including their right to pass on and sell your data. Your IP address won't change very often and so if my company for example is tracking you, you can clear your cookies at the end of each day but I may well have still been tracking you for that whole day. When you come onto this site have a look at the tracking companies when that green ACCEPT box comes up. It's a staggering list. All these companies could be tracking you. I read a book which explains how a lot of this stuff works but I can't remember what it was called unfortunately.

ETA. I'm maybe getting side-tracked between two different but related problems - tracking and unwanted adverts. Follow Kemp's advice for getting rid of the adverts.

See the link to the adblocker I posted above. It will make your internet browsing considerably more pleasant, including blocking video ads when watching clips from youtube.

Of course that won't stop him being tracked but if his prime consideration is removing the adverts then that will work.

So give Div £10 a year which will help towards the upkeep of the Forum.

And there will be no adverts while you are a member of the famous Torfason Club.

You'll be in good company.

If you want to dip your toes in porn, jump over to the failed director of football thread & you can see BTB get absolutely pumped...

Here you go!

I was searching this morning for a campsite in Croatia and I just opened BAWA now to find this.

Perfectly normal for these adds to appear. Annoying as hell, but normal.

I have adblocker on my work pc, but haven't bothered my arse with the personal pc.

My advice would also be to get an ad blocker.

Good luck.

Use the app you get no adverts.

On a side note do people still open up laptops/pc's and browse bawarmy?

Yes.

My iPad is too fiddly to use (keyboard-wise) and the text is too small because of the small screen.

Using a phone for the internet was laughably ridiculous when people started advertising it and it's still laughably ridiculous today. It reminds of using a snooker cue to play golf. Yes you can do it but it's not ideal. :D

My laptop is connected to a 40 inch TV with a cordless mouse and a cordless keyboard. You can't beat that.

Nah. 47 inches is a ridiculous size for a screen. I'd have to be sitting in my neighbours house across the street. :D

40 is perfect for me.

Bigger is not always better.

I'm quite happy to keep bawarmy off my telly thanks.

I get "using the internet" is better on a laptop but come on browsing bawarmy is not exactly that is it?

Yes.

Kinda on topic I've noticed recently that the desktop site has become so slow on my tablets that it's unusable. It's fine on my laptop and the app is ok too. Anyone else having similar problems?
