SSP, you talking about.  If everybody got full wages when sick, doctors surgeries would very busy, that's if you could get a doctor who wasn't sick.

Most doctors will be on at least 6 months full, 6 months half pay.

That explains why I can never get  a doctors appointment.

In fact any zero hours contract, or gig economy employee, or one with less than 12 months service is unlikely to benefit in this way these days. So literally millions dont get it.
That's the trouble with sweeping statements, you get swept up in them.
Your first comment about him picking up wages on rehab was snide.
This one is desperately trying to justify it by bringing up completely unrelated employment terms and conditions. Unless you think St. Mirren should employ their players on zero hours contracts?

The squad is looking pretty balanced at the minute if, as @Lord Pityme said, a little bloated.

As others have said, I think S McGinn will be moving on either now or in the summer. Erhahon needs a loan spell where he can be allowed to spend some time in his actual position. Somewhere like Partick would be ideal - a team nearby who are at the wrong end of their table, but still essentially a good club. Breadner can have a loan as well.

I really wanted Djorkaeff to be a success but flashy training goals that look good on Instagram clearly don't make a dependable first choice player.

That would leave:

Fullbacks: McGinn and Waters, with cover from Flynn and Famewo.

Centre halves from: Kirk, Gary Mack, McCarthy, Famewo (emergency cover from Foley).

Central midfield from: MacPherson, Flynn, Foley and Magennis.

Attacking midfield/wide from: Durmus, McAllister, Andreu, McGrath, Morias (he'll never get played up on his own so might as well call him a wide player now).

Strikers from: Obika, Cooke and Mullen.

That's an awright little squad, I reckon.

Can't believe Durmus got a mention in the OP as a possible 'out', though. Madness. 😂

No that's because there is a national shortage of GPs. The rest of UK has similar along with many other developed countries.
Most trainee doctors don't want to go into general practice preferring the "sexier" specialisms like surgery, cardiac, oncology etc.
Similar problem with geriatricians.
A cynic might note that GP and geriatrics also has less opportunity for private work.

Anyway, back on topic I heard a rumour Motherwell were interested in mullen.
Don't see why though as they seem to have plenty attacking options.

TP, Danny, like other strikers, needs service either from the wings, through balls or knockdown. Let's face it Danny isn't going to win many heading battles at corners. Maybe Well see him fitting in better with their style of play?

Indeed. I just thought they already had enough options. Maybe they are expecting to lose some?

I like Mullen. He's the best finisher we have out of the four strikers we currently have. Has been a bit of form recently though.

Wouldn't suprise me at all. Really want McGinn out and off the wage bill also. Some good business done so far.

Sorry, I don't understand what you're saying there, in relation to my post at least.

My take on what pod is trying to say is that in many industries only salaried staff get the perk of paid sick leave.

The majority of hourly paid will only receive SSP, around £80 a week?

Many reasons for this, one being people ripping the pish out of it.

It's a difficult one, genuine illness/injury can cause hardship if people loose their normal salary/wages.

Other areas, NHS, Education, Council to name three, suffer badly from high levels of absence, costing millions every year.

It would be interesting if these areas stopped paying sick leave to see what the levels of absence would be, much reduced would be my bet.

Why do some posters, namely Top Cat and look at me, have such a problem with Stephen McGinn? He may be down the pecking order just now, but he's been a fantastic player for the club over two spells, and was the on pitch leader who helped us stay in the Championship and then win it the following season. Without him, I believe we would have been relegated to League 1, and who knows, we might still be there, or at best mid table in the championship.

We should be indebted to him, not constantly having a go.

Totally agree.

He stepped down and hauled us back up when we needed it most.

We should be indebted.

Now that we have raised to a level that for whatever reason he is struggling to reach is no reason to trash him.

If and when he goes, he goes with nothing but my gratitude and best wishes.

I think it is not simply about his ability or commitment. He has had injuries and under-performed probably due to these early on in the season. Then JG wants to build his team and play things differently - Stephen's big wage can be freed up and his style does not suit JG's plans.

Even if he stays this window, which is far from certain, he will be away at the end of the season for the above reasons.

Liked his contributions in many games and wish him no harm whatsoever . . .

Maybe he should have said that, then. emoji38.png

A lot of my jobs have been hourly paid and I still got full pay when off sick. One was even a part time position in a one shop business who gave 3 months full pay when sick after you had worked there 6 months to qualify for it. I wasn't there long enough, mind you.

That was almost a cogent argument made by F Man

Oh dear. Right wing interpretation.

Did some work with a large factory in Holland. They intruced self cert, felt it was being abused, tightened up as in the manager had to have a phone conversation with the worker reporting sick. They were quite proud of it. It had cut the number of people taking short sickies. But.. I asked, have the number of people staying off longer post introduction of the phone call rule. How did you know that they asked. I later explained  in line with explaining why different departments had different experiences and results.
