Brits secure rowing record!

Recommended Posts

I see that online natsis are getting their knickers in a twist because sky news publicised the great news that three British brothers rowed themselves across the Atlantic quite quickly.

why are the natsis upset?  Well, apparently all three brothers were originally from Edinburgh, so the natsis think they should be described as proud passionate Scots.

now, the pictures I’ve seen DO make it look as though they ARE proud passionate Scots, but one of them is taking a sabbatical from his job in Bristol, where he lives.  Bristol is in England...

He can’t possibly be a Scot, as has been argued by several Buddies in this very forum - in the topic struggling to find why an Independent Scotland might be workable.

It is possible that the Bristol brother might even  have voted Yes in a referendum, before he sneaked away to become a Not-Scot.  :)

(as they started their wee row from the Canaries, I’m tempted to suggest they are ALL Spaniards.)

That's fine.  You're probably right.

How else do you describe the nasty little gremlins that pile into every tweet online (in their pestilential thousands) with overreactions to anyone who says something is British (when it IS, indisputably) when in their small minds it is ONLY Scottish?

I HAVE tried to think of a better slur, but they do demonstrably display the mob-attack mind of the Nazi party and seem proud to claim they represent the Scottish National Party.

I did not call them Nazis and softened the slur, though slur it was intended to be.

Thank you for c**t, btw.  I fear you lose any respect I may have had prior to your post.

Once again - no attempt to address the logic - just attack the messenger.

Is this a pattern?

I don't remember anyone saying you can't be Scottish if you don't live in Scotland on here, antrin, not saying it hasn't been said, just that I can't recall it.

What many have said, and I'm one of the many, is that if you're Scottish but don't live in Scotland then you don't get a vote in how Scotland is governed or whether or not it should be independent. Personally, I welcome anyone with that perspective offering their opinion - I may not agree with it but I do think it's important to hear. Still doesn't give you a vote, though.

[emoji846]

I also think 'natsis' is beneath you, I'm surprised you seem happy to use it.

ETA just read the BtB wind up, ignore the first para.

I was hoping you might see the irony but alas no.

So you comparing Scottish independence supporters with the Nazis is acceptable, but comparing you to a derogatory term for female anatomy for doing so is unacceptable?

BTW, twitter is full of "nasty little gremlins who pile into every tweet" that they dont agree with.

You can whine all you like but if you think you can walk onto the forum, yell "natsi" and expect to be treated with respect then you are even dafter than we all think you are.

Away and find Dickson and play with him if you want to post childish shite like that.

Headlines often reflect the market of which the readership is constituted. British appears to be used when a cross UK audience is expected. Scottish when covered in the Scottish Media and Local Person when in Regional Media.

This doesn't stop it grating when UK wide Media appear to ignore the Scottish Identity when reporting. It can and does grate.

I can't recall the actual quotes about the sinking of the Titanic but it broke down something like this.

British Ship sinks. Belfast Ship Sinks. Kilbarchan man drowns at sea.

And this thread (and my initial post) also reflect that choosing of headline language when making a point.

As with all political parties(or football teams etc) trotskie, Tories,, lefty, Buddie, hibbie...  long self-indulgent descriptions of an entity often get truncated into something short, like that.

i chose the obvious shortening of nationalist to specifically describe a collection of nationalist supporters online that appear to have unthinking vindictive motives, limited intelligence and a lot of emojis on their side.  What other long-winded names could I pick, but natsis?  It reflects their mob tactics, refusal to see a different perspective and hatred of “the other”.

I am amazed that otherwise rational posters on here are issuing blank denials that such online natsis exist and their tactics are defensible or even something that is a good look for the snp.

oaksoft(in his imaginary world) seems to think my attempt to speak of such nastiness is “whining”, not rational and objective cause for concern.  I believe it’s an appalling look that should be a concern for any serious political party.

tpafkats thinks lots of others online behave in that way, so that excuses nationalists when they do it... and justifies him in not responding to the argument and to just use vituperative denigration of women’s genitalia to describe fellow posters.  I disagree.

unless someone suggests a better, more accurate, short word to describe those online natsis, I’ll stick to it.

Don't you have better things to do with your time today?

Dear Mr Godwin,
You misunderstand my point, although I'm sure it's unintentional...
I wasn't justifying the behaviour of some Scottish nationalists on twitter, I was pointing out that you choose to only compare Scottish nationalists to nazis, not the twitter users of every other political, religious, football etc persuasion who also indulge in such behaviour.

As my most recent post above points out, the sole point of this thread was to talk about Scottish Nationalists over-reaction to a Scottish slight that they imagined had happened.

The thread was not started to examine the minutiae of a myriad Twitter users, good, bad or indifferent.

I think the natsi Twitter gremlins are abhorrent:  I think it's something that the snp should do more about.  Not simply take a hissy fit at the language and shut your eyes and ears to all criticism.

Just as I was disbelieving when I first heard accusations that Socialists and Labour party activists were being anti semitic.  That had not been my experience - nor that of most of the party...

And yet... when you look at the evidence there was genuine grounds for concern.  The party is trying to address that.  This to my mind is healthier than the Tory party which has racists  and anti-semites but refuses to do much about it. - Check out the PM's past quotes and language.

Though I find those natsis offensive and unintelligent, it IS not really concern, I agree.  I was suggesting that Scottish Nationalists should also find it offensive and distance themselves.

Obviously you're happy with it.   Fair enough.

Also that is not how you spell Jim Goodwin's name.

Also I am not Jim Goodwin.

And you know what you are.  :)

Unless the people who you find abhorrent are members of the SNP, it's not really anything to do with them. It's just twats on the Internet.

I'm still not sure why you feel the need to insist that I condone behaviours when I've said I don't. BTW, you might want to screenshot or evidence to the actual behaviours in your original post as it helps folk on here form an view on your opinion.

Continuing to compare non nazis to actual nazis really doesn't help anyone. Apart from real neo nazis.

I didn't, of course, I have consistently called them natsis….   but I think your reading skills are not what they should be so I'll repeat what I specifically said again, shall I?

natsis.

"I HAVE tried to think of a better slur, but they do demonstrably display the mob-attack mind of the Nazi party and seem proud to claim they represent the Scottish National Party.

I did not call them Nazis and softened the slur, though slur it was intended to be.  "

It's you who is consistently going down the hypocritical Nazi squealing route with this.  Remarkably immature...

Jeesuz, you've literally compared nazis with natsis in that quote saying you aren't comparing them [emoji1787]

Changing the spelling to make it a bit of a pun doesn't from it either

Oh and what is hypocritical I me pointing out why I don't think this is a good approach?

I didn't compare them, you know.

READ it again.

I state that the gremlins "do demonstrably display the mob-attack mind of the Nazi party"

Only in that reprehensible respect - and for that section of SNP supporters - do I suggest this is not a good thing to do.

If they were wearing jackboots or brown shirts I could also suggest that might not be a good thing, too.

Are the snp and its supporters off-limits for criticism?

Better we all turn a blind eye to That kind of thing, eh?
