antrin
2 hours ago, Dickson said: Yep and the heroes on the oil rigs and the refineries, Undertakers and the private ambulance drivers that take away the dead bodies. The HVAC engineers who are trying to keep data halls and server rooms cold whilst trying to heat hospitals and super markets and keep the air supply fresh and clean. Then you've got all their supply chain. And that's before you look at the factory workers and engineering plant companies that have responded to the governments call to manufacture respirators despite that not being their main business. There is literally an army of millions of essential workers in the UK at the moment that aren't getting a round of applause when they leave their houses; who aren't getting any praise on social media and who - to their credit - don't expect any either. Yet without them doctors and nurses couldn't begin to do their job, the supermarkets would be completely empty, our streets would be muck ridden with sewage being backed up, and where rubbish was blown everywhere from the overflowing bins. Workers, of every sort, are traditionally despised by many in our stupid, unjust and unfair society. 1 hour ago, jaybee said: well said, nice to see you in sensible mode And nice to see you recognising that and subscribing to the thrust of his message. 1 hour ago, oaksoft said: It's unhelpful and inappropriate to be chucking around words like "heroes" when you are describing exceptionally well paid members of staff. Most of the people who are holding the country together right now are those who are paid the least and treated with disrespect by society - cleaners, those involved in food production and delivery etc. When this is all done and dusted these people don't need to be patronised by applause. They need to be paid a wage which reflects their importance to the nation. I'm hugely hopeful that this group of workers can find some way of ensuring that happens once this is finished. It's never been "Right now" - they have always been the unrecognised people who hold our society together. Mustn't carp, though. I'm glad to see that the current situation has lifted the scales from previously unseeing eyes and that we have at least three new converts to socialism. Aye, we all have our uses and society wouldn't function without everyone's worthy input. Every worker is worthy of his/her wage. Avante Popolo! HASTA! SIEMPRE! Don't know anybody that fits that description Get a tape measure and try it. It's not far off. Measure shoulder to soulder for width and ass to stomach for depth. Then allow a wee bit more depth to stop you ramming into the arse of the person in front of you. 🤣

There's a particularly nauseating one doing the rounds at the moment about "this is what it looks like to spend x hours saving lives" followed by a photo of them with mask marks around their mouths looking for people to call them heroes (which they inevitably do). What the f**k is wrong with these people that the act of saving a life isn't enough for them unless they have a double helping of gushing praise for it online? oaksoft
Way too early to be getting cocky about it but the last few days of figures (with the exception of the large spike yesterday) on both daily deaths and new cases are starting to show encouraging signs of moving away from the exponential growth we've seen over the last few weeks. Let's see where we are in a week but this is some positive news.

On 9th March, Italy recorded 96 new deaths. I'm afraid that we are pretty much precisely 2 weeks behind Italy and still on course to hit about 3000 daily deaths and the overwhelimg of our NHS around 5th to 7th April unless something changes. I wish I could be more positive and in a few days I might be. Not at the moment though. Hiram Abiff
UK deaths now sitting around 52% of the level they were in Italy 2 weeks ago Neil Ferguson now saying that two thirds of people with coronavirus who have died would have died anyway When I stated this last week I received the standard abuse from oaksoft and TPAFTWAT Neil Ferguson must be a sociopath according to TPAFTWAT then More deaths in Germany than the UK yesterday. Is that because Germany do more testing? er, wait a minute...... And I wonder if Ayrshire Saint is still out and about moaning about other folk being out and about And LPM comparing coronavirus to the flu. Deary me. Epic fail. You're the one, well not the only one, who's so far engrossed in calculating the worse case scenario, failing, totally, to see what's HAPPENING, not forecast, in other countries. I have been watching the numbers carefully, not fannying about with home made graphs, and have been dismissing your ludicrous figures, although you are not in the same league as LPM, who I notice seems to escape your abusive comments? I would suggest you refrain from calling me a bellend as you, quite clearly, are the one who's been made look like a bellend, all starting from when you were highlighted as a panic buyer and a bit of a meltdown soon after. Thanks for being entertaining, I have enjoyed making you look very foolish.

Hiram Abiff
My imaginary runner pal online again today bumping his gums about wanting a complete lockdown He was due to fly out to Portugal a week past last Thursday for some running event. The event was obviously cancelled but he took it upon himself to go anyway with some mates, completely ignoring what was going on. They of course ended up stranded but eventually managed to get flights home He spent the whole time over there out and about posting photos online. Photos of the whole group in empty bars, having a piss up on the beach, describing the drinking seasons in the hotel. Now he’s home he wants everyone else to be locked down It’s an example of the angry violent mob out there who appear to be wanting a fascist police date imposed and wanting to make up their own government rules to apply to everyone else. Apart from himself though. If you’re doing ‘proper’ exercise like running then its ok. These folk make do my nut in!
