I’d describe this as a laughable farce if it weren’t so serious.

We’re at the end of seasonal virus “epidemic” which has been no more serious than a standard flu epidemic.

We’re now at negative excess mortality levels in Scotland with the average number of deaths over the past 9 weeks lower than the average for 2020 before COVID reached Scotland.

Yet its at this point that masks being made mandatory...

And despite there not being ANY scientific evidence that it stops the transmission of a seasonal virus.

Nicola Sturgeon says I f you are 11 and under, then you can play together without distancing, but only outdoors, not indoors, but not if you are shielding, but only in groups of 8 or less, with only 2 households, but the adults still have to stay 2m apart.

If you are 12-17, it is different than the above for 11 and under. You still have to stay 2m apart, but only outdoors, not more that 8 people, but you can meet different groups of friends at different times of day.

Further validates the point that SNP can do no right for some people. Their approach has been pragmatic (though cautious yes) and has shown measured success against a number of other nations in a similar situation. Some people still moaning because they have to wear a mask to protect themselves and others in some locations. Boohoo

Can't see the problem myself in wearing a facemask. My wife has been shielding. I've not been in a shop or public transport yet but I did go the Merc Garage today to order my new car and wore a mask.

Why announce a delay in implementation?

Why make it mandatory now?

We had lots of information from science saying face masks are almost useless.

What has changed? What new science has shown that they now miraculously work? Where's the experimental paper showing this?

Why are under-12s allowed to roam freely with no distancing but those 12 or over can't? Do we have genuine worries about a second wave or not?

These are not extremist questions.

These are perfectly understandable and reasonable things for ANYONE to ask.

And they should be answered honestly by people who know.

Is it to simply limit the amount of numbers or are there specific health reasons for what they are doing?

They need to stop treating people like idiots.

When you delve into the effectiveness of face masks, a lot of the work is based on old studies and the need for contemporary studies is fairly pressing. Although the link above can take you to a few.

Do surgeons simply wear masks out of habit, or do they play a role in preventing the spread of disease to patients? If you can be arsed, look at the data and make up your own mind.

The one thing I learned was that "the viral load peaks in the days before symptoms begin and that speaking is enough to expel virus-carrying droplets."

So it's not just coughing and spluttering oafs without face masks that we need to avoid.

This seems to give the lie to Pseudonyms claim that masks are ineffective in reducing the transmission of viruses, whether seasonal or not( I don't think masks can distinguish the two).

There are actually reasons for this, in the article I posted a link to.

Whether you agree with the views of the epidemiologist and infectious disease specialist, is entirely up to you.

if you've adopted an entrenched view on certain aspects of this experience you are not unlikely to change now.

At the start of all this I didn't wear a face covering and was quite dismissive of others who did. However, as the situation worsened,  I figured that it wouldn't do me any harm to wear one and I still do. Not because I think that it will protect me, I hasten to add. I just think that it's common courtesy to reduce the chances of me infecting others. It doesn't cause me any hassle whatsoever, other than steaming up my specs, as I'm a specky bastard.

Also, are the people in England, who have to wear face coverings on transport taking it up the jacksie from Boris too?

There's wearing it and thinking, blindly, it's a great idea.

The science hasn't changed, it's been seen as a minor weapon in the fight to beat this virus.

Now, all of a sudden, it's a must, and not until next Friday? 

Let's not start quoting more fecking experts who change with the wind as politicians pick and choose what suits.

The "take it up the jacksie"  crew are exactly that, seemingly void of opinion, sheep like, proclaiming it's a great idea. 🐑

I just tried one for the first time, wasn't pleasant, luckily enough I rarely go to the shops.
