faraway saint
^^^^^^^^^^ Gagging for attention. Anyhow, to summarise, this variant is all but done, all numbers dropping, by the end of Jan or mid February surely restrictions should be all gone, even for the ever cautions Nicky? Oh, what happened to the "predicted" upsurge when schools returned? Edited January 17, 2022 by faraway saint
faraway saint
But some have said there is light at the end of tunnel, with Dr Mike Tildesley, member of the Scientific Pandemic Influenza Modelling group (Spi-M), said that he hoped that by the end of the year the nation would have a “flu-type” relationship with COVID-19. He told BBC Breakfast: “Say we get into a situation where the virus becomes very, very mild and we are living alongside it – we’re not there yet, but hopefully we will be at some point this year – then we do need to talk about not just cases but also hospital admissions and the number of people who are dying with the disease. Dr Tildesley added that, generally speaking, new variants of viruses tend to be more transmissible but “also generally milder”, adding: “So my hope is that as we get further into this year and, next year, we are dealing with milder versions of COVID and hopefully we have more of a flu-type relationship with COVID where potentially we protect the vulnerable as we get into the colder weather, but we don’t see a return of restrictions.”
faraway saint
THEN you have this........................ makes you wonder if any of these experts know what the fcuk they're talking about, could they be members of the forum? However, Dr David Nabarro, a World Health Organisation (WHO) special envoy for COVID-19, warned that "it’s going to be bumpy" before life can resume some semblance of normal. He told Sky News: “Though it’s possible to start imagining that the end of the pandemic is not far away, just everybody be ready for the possibility that there will be more variations and mutations coming along, or that there will be further challenges, other surges of even Omicron coming.” Nabarro added children do not get very ill from COVID-19, and “we’re going to have children acting as vectors of the virus for some time to come”. He said there was a need to still be “respectful of this virus”, adding: “Do what you can to stop transmitting it. Do what you can to protect others from being affected by it. It’s not the common cold. “I know people would like it to be but it’s a virus that has still some really unpleasant features. Let’s do our best to protect people from it if we possibly can.”
bazil85
Will be interesting to see how this analysis plays out. One of the key points yet again is the 28 days death toll is too narrow for giving a true reflection of Covid caused deaths over the pandemic. Another important caveat is this approach will "likely understate the effect of the pandemic in January and February"

faraway saint
The UK government lead the way again, all but "binning anything covid" over the next few weeks/months. Great news, hope we never hear of it again.

But the very modest restrictions have observably put Scotland in a better position. A PM that didn’t take the necessary precautions & introduced restrictions by stealth without enough additional support. This has had a negative impact on the nations overall health. He is now trying to chase the popular vote to cover the fact he has broke rules he set himself that somehow he also didn’t know what they were. If that doesn’t make sense to you… join the club. Wrong, as I said weeks ago, following the FACTS from South Africa, another big fat lie from you. But the very modest restrictions have observably put Scotland in a better position. No they haven't. A PM that didn’t take the necessary precautions & introduced restrictions by stealth without enough additional support. This has had a negative impact on the nations overall health. No it hasn't. He is now trying to chase the popular vote to cover the fact he has broke rules he set himself that somehow he also didn’t know what they were. If that doesn’t make sense to you… join the club. His blatant disregard for the rules should see him, and EVERY other person who was in attendance or organised these events, dismissed from their roles. You must be getting edgy, having to go back to work soon where everyone ridicules you. Mainly baseless lies again and twisting the facts, what a tragic case you are. antrin
Only idiots think that Covid is over. this is a virus that has spread around the world and has myriad opportunities to mutate, change, adapt. omicron - a “mild”mutation is now dwindling in the well-vaccinated UK. The whole reason for the scientific community calling variants by Greek names is that - initially- there are a lot of names in that alphabet. we are far from done. despite the current government pandering to a tiny faction off the headbangers in its mental group of MPs. dearhs and illnesses could have been mitigated. There was so much obvious scared politicising and backtracking by The Buffoon showing himself to be scared of his mental backbenchers. Scotland is no better off than anywhere else in the UK. viruses don’t give a f**k about derisory politics. COVID WILL be back.

antrin
And, although some parts of UK appear to have passed a peak, it seems that politicians and other eedjits do not comprehend that a peak implies a rise to a summit then a similar diminishing on the other side. So there still are a lot of infections, hospitalisations and deaths to come, (as many as there were before the peak).
