faraway saint Posted May 23, 2021 Author Report Posted May 23, 2021 Mentioned over on the weather thread, seeing my son today, first time socially since last August. Exchanging Christmas presents in a restaurant will be interesting, can hardly remember what we got him and his fiancée, so a double surprise. Throughout the last 14 months there's been many rules, guidelines etc, many confusing and lacking common sense but, the main rules on socialising, or lack of, have been tough, especially for family reasons. Unfortunately my father was a victim of covid, no fault of his own, down to the incompetent care home management and employees, but, that apart, we've all survived, emotionally without the need to be be seen in need of mental health assistance. As a society we are almost through this mess, it's not gone away but we're conquering it, mainly down to the vaccine, and we can all get back to normal, whatever your normal was. The day we can all dispose of, or, in my case, burn, our masks will be a momentous day. Quote
FTOF Posted May 23, 2021 Report Posted May 23, 2021 Good news. Certainly stresses the importance of getting both doses of the vaccine. Vaccines highly effective against B.1.617.2 variant after 2 doses - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk) Interesting to note that the Indian variant seems to be better at evading the protective effect of the vaccine than the Kent variant, and in a very short time period too. Early signs that yearly Covid vaccines may well be required for certain age groups, much in the same way as the current yearly flu vaccinations. Quote

I only have Shull as he rarely posts anything worthwhile IMO (copy/paste ), the simpleton B a z is on and off, and that's about it. You'll be getting closer to Poz who had 90% of the forum on ignore before realising he was talking to himself for the majority of the time. Quote
Cookie Monster Posted May 26, 2021 Report Posted May 26, 2021 Am I on your list? If everyone calls you out on your fitba scouting claims you will have no one to talk to bar yourself. Come on who have you scouted? Dib dib dib!If someone that he replies to was to quote you, it might see your post if you are on it's list. [emoji1787] Quote

faraway saint Posted May 30, 2021 Author Report Posted May 30, 2021 This thread has racked up over 283,000 views, quite a number in almost 16 months. Like the virus, hopefully it'll be on it's way out soon. (Yeah, the virus won't be gone but the tragic events it has brought us will have all but gone soon) It's been a rollercoaster, turned into a classic thread and everybody that's still here should be thankful. I can't wait for this thread to drop down and disappear in the not too distant future. Quote
faraway saint Posted May 30, 2021 Author Report Posted May 30, 2021 With the vaccinations numbers racking up it's looking like the majority of cases are exactly those who haven't had their jag. I'd guess the conspiracy theory king, @saintnextlifetime would be in that bracket. @oaksoft done a complete 360, no surprise, after calling people who had it and wanted it guinea pigs. Anyone else still to have their first jag? Quote

This story is being published in other media outlets. The two authors of the forthcoming paper are very credible medical scientists. What is interesting is that they've struggled and failed to get it published for about a year. That in itself is not unusual - they've probably been trying to get it into journals like Nature and the waiting list and failure list for a journal like that is enormous. What's more of a concern is that they've claimed that it's because people view their research as racist. That right there is a red flag and sounds like conspiracy theory bollocks which they need to clarifying. It's unusual to get feedback of that type from reviewers of submitted papers so they need to explain why they think that's the reason for having the paper rejected. The authors also state (paraphrasing) that "it's against the law of nature to have 4 consecutive positively charged amino acids, thast has to be man-made." Well it's either against the law of physics or it's not. If it's against the law of physics for it to be naturally occurring then it would also be against the law of physics for it to be man-made. That needs explaining too. As of yet, the paper is still not published. It remains to be seen whether that's because it's been approved and is now awaiting a free slot in a future edition in this journal or whether it's still awaiting peer-review. So I wouldn't dismiss it just yet. Edited June 1, 2021 by oaksoft Quote

So I wouldn't dismiss it just yet. I don't believe it. But then again, I tend to not believe things until there is evidence for them (or, at least, enough evidence to show a likelihood, even if not definitive). All down to not being able to choose what you believe (again). Maybe once it's published there will be enough evidence to convince me but, until then, I'm not convinced and therefore do not believe it. Very intelligent people can be wrong too, even if they are talking about fields in which they are authorities, so their credentials mean nothing unless they can back up their claims with evidence. Just the same as anything else. Quote
