Slarti
Totally agree… but enough about you ( meant to be tongue in cheek like previous post)He's quite right, though. All those people claiming things are "fact" without any reliable evidence to back it up.

faraway saint
Cases down for the 4th day in a row in Scotland but, more importantly, and sadly, deaths jump up quite a bit. Hospital numbers continue to rise, about a week now, although, a good sign, ICU staying level. Hopefully the vaccine/booster doing it's job.
faraway saint
This sounds familiar .............................although it's from a report from 2 years ago in Scotland. The outbreak has placed enormous pressure on hospitals, with several forced to close to all but emergency cases. Last week all intensive care beds in Scotland were occupied and emergency admissions to hospital hit record levels, with rates in the Edinburgh area 50%higher than normal for this time of year. The Scottish health minister, Susan Deacon, said that the NHS was experiencing exceptional pressures but the system was coping due to the dedication of staff and forward planning.

I do prefer the 7 day average figures, it does in my view gives a clearer picture of what's happening especially when numbers are delayed due to backlogs/holidays/weekends.

Sue Denim
Looking at the U.K. cases by nation by specimen date, it’s looking like the peak occurred on 29th December for all 4 home nations. The peak last winter also occurred on 29th December in all 4 home nations. https://coronavirus.data.gov.uk The peak of actual infections in therefore likely to have occurred shortly after the winter solstice. What a surprise…. Whoever wishes to investigate medicine properly should proceed thus: in the first place to consider the seasons of the year … Hippocrates

faraway saint
Cases certainly look to be leveling off, and, good news, NEW admissions to hospital and ICU dropping and staying level, respectively. Are we seeing the end of the current winter flu epidemic, I hope so.

Not yet, the 300-6000 deaths per day that we’re modelled haven’t started yet.

Cumbriansaint72
Just been reading some of the articles for this and it's absolutely bonkers. As part of the pitch is in Wales, no fans allowed into ground, there wouldn't be any restrictions of Chester fc having 2000 fans in car park watching match being screened as that part is in England.

In South Africa the peak in Omicron deaths followed on, over a week past the peak for infections. And then there are concerns about Long COVID.

The deaths are still rising, 3 weeks AFTER this date. PS It should be noted the numbers, averaging just over 150, are still very low in a country with a low rate of vaccination. faraway saint
A doctor on BBC just reiterated the obvious, this current strain ISN'T following the same pattern that the previous variants did so anyone spouting about "history" has lost the plot. He also said he believed we are past the worst in cases.
Cookie Monster
English football club fear going out of business after warning for breach of Welsh COVID rules (msn.com)Hopefully not again. Oops forgot this is not Chester City FC but a new club Chester FC Slightly alarming headline............... omitting he words "non league". Oi, that's my new favourite English football club. It was formally Chester City. Just been reading some of the articles for this and it's absolutely bonkers. As part of the pitch is in Wales, no fans allowed into ground, there wouldn't be any restrictions of Chester fc having 2000 fans in car park watching match being screened as that part is in England. Not part of the pitch, the whole pitch, every spectators seat or standing area. The border cuts through some offices as you can see below. With the old Sealand Road Ground at the top of Bumpers Lane.
ALBIONSAINT
Not sure why this made the BBC news as a sample of (126) is far too small to gather any meaningful information. Can you imagine going to the Scottish or any government and asking for funding for a new project with evidence which consisted of 126 people over 2days!

Aye, pointless, apart from continuing to scaremonger using big numbers as usual.

So team / club who play primarily in Blue goes belly up about a decade or so ago after administration and resurfaces with an ever so slightly different identity , get told to start again from three divisions lower down ….. sound familiar ?😂 Mind you , at least this latest lot have tried to learn their lesson and live within their means this time . Wonder if they pulled the old “oh those debts .. no , that was another entity nothing to do with us Guv” 🙄
