Hendo
Unfortunately I can't see either Alnwick or Lyness being fit anytime soon. We all know how long it takes to recover from coronavirus.

Fricky-Troll
Weren’t those decisions government edicts rather than SPFL decisions? Yes, that’s my point, it’s the SPFL saying play on but the government only advised on the other two , they didn’t order it.

Cookie Monster
Weren’t those decisions government edicts rather than SPFL decisions? The Scottish government asked what the SPFL was doing about it. It was entirely the SPFL's decision.

Back in 99/00 the players in question WERE actually ill. The players today aren’t ill. Interesting to note that more people died in the flu epidemic of 99/00 than have died in 2019/20 - despite there being a flu vaccine. Yet not only did we not lockdown, shut the NHS, remove people’s liberties and wreck the economy, no-one even remembers it! They won't, because you just made that up

So who is right ? I was just about to quote that second article about 48,000 excess deaths. You can't trust that number or the current covid death numbers for the reason you stated - it'll be multiple causes underlying them and "flu" or "covid" is an easy cause of death to register. We've not gone through a winter with covid yet and I expect that the number of excess deaths over the same physical time period will be higher this year so it's way too early for comparisons. For the record. Sue is almost always wrong with his data. You've just got to sometimes dig to find the flaw in his statement. In this case, he's comparing two different times of the year with one of them (covid) not over yet. The only valid comparison would be when both plagues are over. Then you can look back and compare excess deaths.

The Original 59er
My wife made a very valid comment: If the same had happened to either of the old firm would the same thing have applied? Of course not they would have tried the the SPFL to postpone, and if they were told to play like us, they would have magically come up with a 4th player testing positive and they then would fall under the SPFL's rules if 4 players from the 1st team squad test positive they can apply for a postponement. We missed a late trick if you ask me.
bazil85
Three positive tests at the Accies, believe they've still to be confirmed if false positives or not. Will be interested to see how much of the squad is ruled out with close contact. Got to assume the game has to go ahead given the St Mirren situation though.
