I've always thought that this would make a great national anthem for some new small nation.

We're coming to the edge
Running on the water
Coming through the fog
Your sons and daughters

Let the river run
Let all the dreamers
Wake the nation
Come, the New Jerusalem

Silver cities rise
The morning lights
The streets that meet them
And sirens call them on
With a song

It's asking for the taking
Trembling, shaking
Oh, my heart is aching
We're coming to the edge
Running on the water
Coming through the fog
Your sons and daughters

We the great and small
Stand on a star
And blaze a trail of desire
Through the dark'ning dawn

It's asking for the taking
Come run with me now
The sky is the color of blue
You've never even seen
In the eyes of your lover

Oh, my heart is aching
We're coming to the edge
Running on the water
Coming through the fog
Your sons and daughters

Let the river run
Let all the dreamers
Wake the nation
Come, the New Jerusalem

With similar sentiment....

Trembling, shaking
Oh, my heart is aching We're coming to the edge
Running on the water
Coming through the fog

"A new Jerusalem", no thanks, cunts will just want to fight over it.

lyrics
If you don't put me on trial
Then why don't you turn me loose
You can throw the key away
Let me chase the wild goose
Your progress is my desire
You shouldn't do me wrong
Although it's true I'm worried now
I won't be worried long
Telling stories to the peacocks
Selling systematically
Just a counterfeit engraving
Of the way you used to be
Just another one-way number
Just another two-way song
Although it's true I'm worried now
I won't be worried long
Don't encourage me to murder'Cause it pays to advertise
Don't treat me with suspicion
Don't tell me no more lies
You know I love your company
You shouldn't do me wrong
Although it's true I'm worried now
I won't be worried long
Although it's true I'm worried now
I won't be worried long

Back in the day when the SNP was a party for independence , before the '79 group hijacked it , this song was regarded as the National Anthem and  sung as such at Party events . .

. .of course the words are credited to one of the most famous Scotsmen of all time. .

Here's a wee bit fae Wiki ;  "Scots Wha Hae" (English: Scots, Who Have; Scottish Gaelic: Brosnachadh Bhruis) is a patriotic song of Scotland written using both words of the Scots language and English, which served for centuries as an unofficial national anthem of the country, but has lately been largely supplanted by "Scotland the Brave" and "Flower of Scotland".

This is one that many of us would have been taught at school , therefore should be familiar to us. .

Never heard it before. Must have been taught to those of a certain vintage.

You are right , l reckon you would need to be over 12yrs old to know it. .

Well, I've played it to my daughter (32) and my niece (19) and both of them say they don't know it. Why do you assume "many of us" would have learned it? Because you did? How many is "many"?
