Does a lot of things very well, but for a number 9 he is powder puff with both feet. If someone could explain "putting the laces through it" to him, and it worked, he'd be a huge asset. I think Brophy coming was a signal of intent. In Dennis and Brophy we have 2 forwards who can smash a ball goalwards. Having said that, especially with Dennis's and Brophy's injury records. I'd happily keep Jon and play him alongside whichever of the other two was fit. I don't think the big man would be hard to deal with for a one year extension. I wonder if he's waiting to see whether Quaner shows something special. We also have Erwin for another year so I think there's only one more striking slot available. I'd be very surprised if we go with 5 for next season. If Quaner doesn't make it in the next couple of games, they might both be away. I suspect Jim has his eye on someone else altogether right now. JPB1957
Had a quick look online at players out of contract and yet to be offered one at St Johnstone and Livingston. I cut and paste from a site called transfer market. If we could afford their wages any in the list which would improve us next season St Johnstone Stevie May Centre-Forward Guy Melamed Centre-Forward Craig Conway Left Winger Michael O'Halloran Right Winger Murray Davidson Central Midfield Craig Bryson Central Midfield Scott Tanser Left-Back Callum Booth Left-Back Livingston Jay Emmanuel-Thomas Centre-Forward Scott Tiffoney Left Winger Scott Robinson Central Midfield Steve Lawson Central Midfield Josh Mullin Right Midfield Djibril Diani Defensive Midfield Jon Guthrie Centre-Back Efe Eric Ambrose Centre-Back Alan Lithgow Centre-Back Jack Fitzwater Centre-Back Nicky Devlin Right-Back Aaron Taylor-Sinclair Left-Back

From St. Johnstone, Tanser and possibly Melamed who has looked really good from what little chance he's had. Guys like May, Davidson, Conway and Bryson are all injury prone or done. From the Livi list, I've always liked Mullin and Taylor-Sinclair. Robinson is a good player too.

I agree. I honestly don't see why we should be looking at players from either club unless they stand out. Once Hearts and Dundee(?) come up next season, I would expect both those clubs to struggle like the rest of us. Almost no club outside the OF and Aberdeen manage to maintain consistency from one season to the next. Look at Motherwell and Killie as great examples. I am certain Livi will be down amongst the bottom clubs next season and I'm pretty sure St Johnstone will be there too. We need to focus on bringing through young guys from markets like Eire and blend them with a bit of experience. Just like Jim is currently doing. A couple of midfielders like McGrath and a decent couple of young strikers to back up Dennis and we'll not be far away from top 6 again IMO. bazil85
I'm quite excited to see what Goodwin brings in this summer, we have had a number of successful windows over the last few years (not all but certainly some). My only concern is, will it be telling not having someone in the role Gus was fulfilling?

That's a bit sad but the science of building a squad over a period of a few years is a thing of the past. Ideally we'll get a few replacements in at the start of the window and hold a bit back till near the end of August when the bigger clubs are cutting their squads - as ever I look forward to @Flareybobs tips! Losing out on the top 6 will likely have had a negative financial impact on the contracts we were offering.

IMO most of those leaving won't be offered a deal , I'm thinking Morias , Urminsky , Connolly , Flynn ? We can replace those four with better , and in Flynn's case , fitter ! The "heads turned" ones , JDH , Fraser , Durmus ?

pondsman
Fraser and Durmus are two players we DON'T want to lose. I think JDH and, sadly, Obika should probably go. Big Jon has been entertaining but we need a better quality of striker for next season.
