Livingston v St Mirren League Cup

Well that was a waste of a day. Dire performance. Of Goody will say we were fantastic. But he has to. We don't. We actually made Livingston look good today. That's how bad we were. That team are going no where until he replaces Durmus and Connolly. Not gonna pick on any one player. Cos they were all well below par. Piss poor. Wide men needed badly

A disappointing day.

We don’t really seem to have found our feet or any sort of rhythm yet with the system and personnel that is being deployed by Goodwin.

Still early days but we are definitely miles off things just now in terms of being in any way effective going forward.

Hope none of the injuries are serious.

I thought McAllister did very well when he came on, also whilst it took the two of them a wee while to settle down I also thought McPherson andHenderson were ok - McGrath showed flashes of his class.

We were a bit unlucky today, I felt we were snatching a bit at things and just generally a bit out of sorts, we are crying out for width and need someone calmer up front (Dennis) to put the ball in the net.

One or two wee tweaks, a bit more time together and with a wee bit of luck we’ll be ok this season.

The problem is that the width we are crying out for is wingers and pace that can get us up the pitch.

Unfortunately that requires a shift away from the 3-4-1-2 that Goodwin is set on.

If we go 4-4-2 with wingers then you have the question over how to get best out of McGrath and where. Nobody really plays with a diamond any more.

If we try 4-5-1 then we have 3 strikers warning the bench and don’t really have a lone striker type to actually play that system.

Definitely a challenge if we can’t get this current setup to work.

Goodwins tactics are rotten.

The tactics deployed are appalling. Fraser who at right back used to push forward and help attacks now can’t. Tait is being hung out because he can’t get up and down in the wing back role. We are launching the ball forward 75 percent of the time and not only is it not working it’s also very boring. Kiltie has shown zero , Main looks like a down grade from Obika and It’s all very one paved and predictable.

An average season ?.... were you born in 1877? I think you will find in our 144 year history 7th in top league and 2 semi finals beating OF and Dons is very above average.... we need consitency at the helm and like all other provincial clubs that means ups and downs.... League Cup away on that shit pitch...big deal.... oh and celts will cuff us so expect another defeat...Goodwin is a cup winning Saint who has a great record with us.... so enjoy the ride

League cup is a major deal to our club. Not panicking yet but the punt up the park is utter shit and was a boring watch today. Many will say we played v similarly at the start of last year but that changed when Jake Doyle Hayes signed and started taking the ball in our own half and built possession. But hey he was shit wasn’t he

Problem is players signed aren't as good as players who left. Brophy and Main are no-where near standard. Kiltie is a 1st division player and Dunn is not at McCarthy level but has been playing before him. The tactics are shocking and Goodwin has not a clue how to set team up midfield to forward. McGrath is posted missing for 70 minutes due to long balls and no width to get crosses in. Saying that we have 4 non-scoring so called strikers.

My knickers are bone dry thanks, I was only pointing out that on the back of an average season, that it may have been more prudent not to reward the manager with such a lucrative contract.

He is still a young manager learning his trade, so do not understand why he was rewarded so handsomely by our club.

I only know this information because our CEO couldn't wait to tell the world that this was the case when the manager signed a new deal.

Maybe there are some lessons to be learned by the CEO, or did he think a bigger club was poised to come in and steal him?

An average Season Indeed. Just our usual.

Finished bottom half of the League.

Papped meekly and shamefully from both Cups. Got to win them to be successful.

Was a generally shite Season.

Hoping for better, maybe winning the Scottish Cup.

COME ON THE SAINTS

Aberdeen play in all red strips.

We are not Aberdeen

We are St Mirren

We play in Black and White Stripes

Fecking play in our famous and traditional black and white striped strips unless there's a colour clash.

Disappointing performance and outcome yesterday.

We were the better team in the first half and could have been ahead at halftime if Brophy, Main and Kiltie had taken three decent chances. Looks like scoring goals will be a problem again this season. Livi's goal was a quick counter-attack which caught out the defence.

Like last week, McGrath was the only midfielder who played to form, but he missed Power breaking up play and feeding him. As a result he had to run all over the pitch trying to get hold of the ball and make something happen. Erhahon really needs to up his game to justify his fancy haircut.

Was left to McCarthy to get us back into the game with a late goal. And this is a centre half who would not even have been on the pitch if Dunne hadn't been injured early in the game! Don't know what system JG wants to play this season, but he really needs to work out a way to get McCarthy playing regularly.

Subs didn't make enough of an impression on the game. Some poor crosses by McPherson and McAllister. In the end, scuppered by some poor penalties and one good save by the Livi keeper.

Quick word for the travelling support which was brilliant throughout. Eased the pain of a tough day. Well done to all those who got tickets and attended.

In summary, Main couldn’t hit the proverbial coos arse with a banjo, Erhahon needs half a season on loan to a championship team to sharpen his passing, he can car share with Kilitie. Brophy looks like he could come good but I don’t know how long that will take?
There were some positives, Tanser can put in a good cross, Erwin and mcAllister brought a bit of urgency and directness to the attack when they came on.

Not bad entertainment for £10, just wish Livi would put a Steward or police outside at the end to help with the traffic leaving their car park, stuck there for a good 45 minutes after the game.

Could it work with Fraser at RWB to get McCarthy into the side?
I know Jim has us set on 352, but I wonder if 4231 would work better?
Could play Tait RM and Fraser at RB allow then to overlap? Or could play a bit more narrow and instead of RM/LM play attacking mids.

RB Fraser
CB McCarthy
CB Shaughnessy
LB Tanser/Tait
CDM Power
CDM Erhahon/MacPherson
RM/RAM Tait/Henderson/McGrath
CAM McAllister
LM/LAM Tanser/Kiltie
ST Main/Brophy

Issue could be with this is we don't have a Striker that can play on their own and Left side could be exposed. I think Tanser could play in a left mid role with his crossing ability.

Yes we can.

We can wear white shorts and white socks.

Hibs and Celtic, years ago used to wear their traditional strips when playing each other.

As we did when we played Celtic when they wore their minging hoops.

Clearly its not allowed anymore and tbh could not give a flying ….. what hibs and celtic wear against one another. We should be allowed to wear the stripes against that manky lot but wont next week as the SPFL will say otherwise.

The Takings from home and away supports.

Sponsorship

Television Money
