Cost of Living

Been chatting to a few bar/restaurant owners over here in Tenerife and they haven't seen any drop in custom as yet.

They are aware of rising costs and are doing what they can to keep prices reasonable, I've not really noticed any astronomical rises in food/drink.

However this could possibly change the longer this hoes on.

I'll be back next year and it'll be interesting to see if there's any major impact.

I came across this article the other day.

I thought it was a very good initiative by the Greek government.

Of course, there are a few problems highlighted in the article.

The fixed-price shopping basket: Greece’s answer to cost of living crisis | Greece | The Guardian

The main point is:

It came as little surprise for consumer groups, then, that when talk turned to the need for relief measures to counter rising inflation the government chose to focus on staple goods. What emerged was the novel concept of the “household basket”: supermarkets agreed with the government to sell about 51 staples – from flour to fish – at fixed prices.

I did see the list , but I can't find it now.

A guy, who has a garden room/bar proudly advertising his price list.
Not even trying to cover the cost but making a considerable profit on most drinks.
He's taking in £42 for a bottle of spirits costing under £20.
If this was a "mate" who invited me round he wouldn't be a mate for long.

Noticed that, considering the profit they're making you'd have thought they could have bought a few more £ signs.

£1 for a can of "juice", when they are just under 40p, before they are on special at Tesco.

What's it best used for. I've got Netflix (included in VM package), Disney + and Amazon Prime.

Apart from IPTV, what are the benefits?

We're away for a few days at a lodge in Stonehaven.

I brought the Firestick , plugged it in, provided the wifi details and, boom, working a treat. (As long as the broadband speed is adequate)

Watching the Arsenal game as I'm not a big fan of the FA cup.

Also, as I mentioned, gives us access to my Netflix, Prime etc.

This doesn't really relate to the cost of living as Dublin has always been rip off city in the Temple bar and surrounding area.

We, 10 of us, were there just over 20 years ago and it was eye watering at the time.

So much so that I'd never return...............................check these out.

PS Prices will be euros, not that makes much of a difference.

May be an image of text that says ".DUDIIN, JREAND い THE TEMPLE BAR Temple Bar emple Bar Q#1 Serv: Gary 15:15 Cost PINT GUI PINT VO JAMESON 17.90 17 95 TOTAL Amount Due 81.85 27.00 81.85 Service inc1 ded Thank you for your custom"

Seen that the other day, The Temple Bar has always been dearer than other establishments near by.

Fortunately one of my mates knew some better establishments which were not that far which were better priced and a more friendly clientèle.

I just worked it out. It's been 15 years since I've been there. I thought it was a lot less.
