The Use of Mobile Phones at Work

Being retired I don’t have experience of this. Is mobile phone use whilst working allowed by employers or is their use restricted in the contract of employment? Surely their use during working time would be restricted to breaks or domestic emergencies. As I understand it they would be considered likely to have a negative impact on productivity. What’s the story here? Do you use your mobile for personal reasons during work time? If so… to do what?

Fair play Tommy. I see you are a fan of the 4 day week. Never experienced that either.

Most organisations have a mobile phone and internet/social media policy, some insist on phones being put in lockers during working hours, others like ours have a more relaxed interpretation of the policy but still requiring a personal responsibility to its use.

Thanks SS. Must be more difficult to enforce when people are working remotely or from home. Personal responsibility sounds right to me.

Er, he did what on the government benches?

I was asking RA not telling.

The story appears to be that a male MP was observed looking at what has been described as pornography in the House of Commons. I don’t know whether he sits on the government or opposition benches. Thought someone here might know.

Dozens of MPs on their phones today during PMQs.
One Tory MP has been caught watching porn on his phone in the chamber.
BBC News - MP Neil Parish says he may have opened porn in Commons by mistake

He may have?

Surely he should know if he opened it by mistake. [emoji1787]

Also regarding mobiles, isn't it such a convenient excuse to have it destroyed or lost when required.

Some of the private messages relating to the case are missing, for a variety of unfortunate reasons. Vardy’s former agent said her mobile phone was accidentally dropped in the North Sea shortly after Rooney’s lawyers requested access to the device.

“Coincidentally, around the same time, all media files from Mrs Vardy’s WhatsApp conversation with Ms Watt also bizarrely disappeared (and from all backups), whilst apparently in the process of exporting it to her solicitors,” said Rooney’s lawyers.

Whats the chances. [emoji1787]

If we're talking the chances of an extremely unlikely thing happening to remove the evidence then I'd say odds-on - there's plenty of times it's happened before, after all...

As much as I think he is stupid there are few things to consider. Porn isn't illegal.

So if he was doing his shopping at Tesco on line in commons is this a sacking? I would argue he is misusing tax payer money and breaking down trust of his employer but in eyes of a disciplinary process a final warning would suffice to correct his behaviour.

If we all were saying we haven't done a bit of faffing on company time we would be lying and all be up for a disciplinary hearing.

Matt Hancock was having intimate times with his aid in lock down and never stood down. Is this worse than porn popping up on his phone?

At the end of the day we all like to knock one out especially if staying away for a week . At least he's not cheating on his wife shagging his aid and has no idea how many kids he has.
