A really awful thing to have happened and my heart goes out to the parents and family who are involved. I can't imagine how they must feel but I hope all who are in hospital recover fully.

I see the pathetic individuals we have amongst us have taken over the headlines and are using this tragedy as an excuse to further their racist views? 

The respect and grief  by the Southport public & public services shown yesterday was heart warming.

Unfortunately a local mosque was targeted by suspected EDF supporters who decided to further their dark and violent ambitions. 

Thirty-nine police officers have been injured after unrest broke out in Southport hours after a vigil took place to remember the victims of a knife attack in which three children were killed, the North West Ambulance Service said.

Earlier, Merseyside Police said eight officers sustained serious injuries including fractures, lacerations, a suspected broken nose and concussion.

Other injuries included one officer being knocked unconscious, as well as some suffering head and serious facial injuries. Three police dogs were also hurt, with two having bricks thrown at them.

The disorder, which police said was believed to involve English Defence League supporters, began only a few streets away from Wednesday's vigil location, near to a mosque on St Luke's Road in Southport.

Those involved threw bricks at the mosque, set fire to cars and wheelie bins and caused damage to a local convenience store, police said.

In total, 27 officers were taken to hospital, and 12 were treated and discharged at the scene, the ambulance service said.

Also saw a local glazier offered to repair the windows in the mosque for free. 

Another heart warming gesture in a terrible situation.

More local people on the news this morning  stating their disbelief that thugs from outside the town have totally ignored the tragedy that happened and the grief that was overwhelming the whole community. 

Also more reports of the community coming together, both Muslim and non Muslims, all showing astounding solidarity at this time. 

There are lots of decent people in the world, don't let the cnuts steal the headlines.

As I live in Liverpool I personally know some of the responders to the incident. The fact that they had to deal with the trauma of the incident while remaining professional and supportive of the families and show respect ( police and paramedics formed guard of honour as bodies came out and driven away etc) and then many volunteered to be bricked and abused by these knuckle draggers to support their colleagues shows the level of dedication and compassion. Hope they drag the EDL off to a dark hole and leave them there, no place in civilised society for them.

Yes there are radical Muslims as has been widely reported but they are few and far between, how many radical white British racists turned up and wrecked Southport and tarnished those little girls memories.

This sounds like you are comparing white rioters throwing bricks and setting police cars on fire (which has been happening since the Mods v Rockers ) with Islamic extremism which results in the Manchester arena bombing , Westminster bridge stabbings etc. Should all protesters be banned and locked up or only white ones? It’s just that there was a large riot in Leeds a couple of weeks ago and the police didn’t even bother attending which resulted in two police cars and a bus being destroyed.
