Looking forward to the match tonight.

But not to jumping over the puddles. potholes and litter that's strewn around the approach roads to the SMISA Stadium - particularly Clark Street and Murray Street.

What a disgraceful impression to present to our visitors from Bergen.

Surely Renfrewshire Council has had enough time to address this issue or does it just not care?

Whilst acknowledging that budgets are tight thanks to the performances of successive UK governments, a major clean up of this area should be a top priority - given that this is the main gateway into Paisley for thousands of fans from Europe as well as other parts of Scotland.

Even Inverclyde Council is making a better fist of sprucing up Greenock than Renfrewshire Council is of looking after the local environment in Paisley - and that is not exactly a high bar!

Those who sit as so called MPs for Paisley over a number of years are init for themselves and family members! As for those who they are suppose to serve as their MP don’t give a flying F@@k!

get rid of the trash then tidy up the town!

we'd be better off collecting for and organising this ourselves.  No way any council in Scotland is going to spend money on a commercial/industrial area such as the stadium surroundings.

This was always the trade-off of securing a free offer of land for the stadium.

This is a council spending £52 million on a Museum (if it ever opens) saying it will be a world class tourist attraction. Can't even get the basics right. Laughable. RC full of people on big 6 figure salaries who are absolutely hopless and accountable to no one.

Just for some balance..............

What the benefits will be

The project will deliver the following:

  • around 125,000 visitors a year and a £79m boost for the local economy over 30 years
  • 138 jobs supported during construction, and 48.5 jobs per year through revenue and visitor spending
  • new footfall for the town centre, pulling people up the High Street, and bringing new trade into surrounding businesses
  • Paisley's profile and story reaching a Scottish, UK and international stage
  • a new social and community hub for people of all ages to learn

How it is being funded

Around half of the £45m project cost is coming from Renfrewshire Council. The project is also being supported by the National Lottery Heritage Fund, the Scottish Government and its Regeneration Capital Grant Fund, as well as a number of other trusts, foundations and private donors.

I was in the area around the Abbey and Town Hall and down into Bridge St yesterday for the first time for a while and I was impressed with the well kept grassy areas and a definite lack of litter.

There was even a wedding emerging from the Abbey with a piper.

I guess the sunshine helped....

Biggest difference Council   could make to the Town would be to go round unblocking the drains. Most street have huge puddles that could be cleared easily.

They were actually out last week doing this. Don't know whether it was only one lorry, but I saw several drains being unblocked.

Also, I was in the Town Hall on Friday for the Heaven 17 (which was superb) and it's a really good venue, with it's refurb really making it look great.
