stlucifer Posted June 22 Report Posted June 22 Is Urminsky going to be risked as our number 1 or are Saints' just taking their time? While I like what little I've seen from big Peter I don't think we should be going into the season with a rookie who has yet to be proven at any real level. To be honest, we've set ourselves up for this by the lack of foresight. Perhaps we should have tried to get two keepers in and let PU go out on loan a couple of years ago to gain experience and make himself ready for taking over. Quote
beyond our ken Posted June 22 Report Posted June 22 it does seem that planning for that position is very reactive, it's not the first time in recent years we have been looking at second choices within a couple of weeks of the new season preliminaries. I'd agree that Peter should either have been given a more comprehensive development plan that would have him challenging for the number one spot by now, or he should have been moved on at some point in the last 2 years. Saint@Johnstone Posted June 22 Report Posted June 22 I’m rather more concerned with the recent trend in signing, or borrowing, players from lower or even non league in England. Not just by Saints it has to be said. It reminds one of the Stubbs era when he assumed that the standard here is so low that non league players from his own country would suffice here. Similar to what I think the new rangers manager is going to try. As for a goalie, I dread to think who we are going to sign or borrow. Quote
Swiss_Saint Posted June 23 Report Posted June 23 Who have we borrowed from non league? I know we signed oseni from Gateshead and hopefully he can kick on this year but struggling to think of who else to make it a trend Quote

I was mainly generalising but unconvinced of the likelihood they will succeed. Latest signing today I put in that category. We need a goalie and a centre forward desperately. Quote
faraway saint Posted June 23 Report Posted June 23 The transfer window doesn't close till 1st September. That's over two months in case anyone thinks we need to be panicking. Robinson has signed plenty of players who gave blossomed under his guidance. I'd be inclined to trust him rather the usual negative Norman's before a player has kicked a ball. Quote
stlucifer Posted June 24 Author Report Posted June 24 Anyhoo... To get back on point. Still no sign of a goalie. I hope SR is actively looking. Quote

faraway saint Posted June 29 Report Posted June 29 (edited) According to those who attended yesterday it's become even more critical we sign a goalie as "Peter" was shaky at best. 🙄 Edited June 29 by faraway saint Quote

He had next to nothing to do but, when called upon, he looked like a rabbit caught in the headlights. Quote

It will probably end the hope he could step up this season. Pity but as it's such a critical position we need a confident guy between the sticks. Quote

Maboza Posted June 29 Report Posted June 29 The clamour from some for big Urminsky to be given a chance as number 1 is just mental. It’s like he’s turned into a cult figure, ‘2-metre Pete’ and folk think he’s going to be amazing despite nothing to suggest it when we saw him play terribly vs Rangers a couple of years back and have seen nothing since. He looked nowhere near it yesterday for the very little that he had to do. If we think he’s got potential he needs to go on loan somewhere this season that he’ll play and can afford to make mistakes. Its got be between Mullen and someone else for the jersey. Quote

He's been under the scrutiny of the manager for long enough and hasn't had a sniff. Sooner the better we get somebody as it'll take a wee bit of time for any new keeper to get used to the players. What height are you? 😉 Quote

Its got be between Mullen and someone else for the jersey. There's no clamour for him to be given the slot, only a request that we get behind him when he is called upon to serve the team Mullen has an injury history that makes me think he MAY have arrived short of fitness & sharpness and in that situation Peter is maybe being given the responsibility of stepping up and also the chance of enough first team minutes against lower league opposition to improve & learn. It was already said (somewhere) that Peter would get the group stages to stake a claim, if he fails then I'm pretty sure that he COULD be either sent on loan or let go, but that would leave us with only one keeper, a player who has recently struggled to last a full season. So, I don't get all this "clamour" to hive 2mP off just now, we can't afford to field an academy player or an outfielder in goals in the premiership so let's just see what the management team can do with the situation. And stop giving the guy a hard time. Quote
