Great news that Park has left the building but when you look at the real lack of quality in the vast majority of players still under contract the legacy of him and the 'best ever St Mirren manager' (aye right!) will haunt us for at least another season.

A wee bit unkind. Even though it ended badly, Robinson was most definitely up there with the best.

ETA. I will certainly remember him fondly for giving me 3 years without potential heart attack, end of season jitters.... And a cup win with a cup semi final to boot.

Completely agree. He gets my vote as our best Manager.

Fergie for me was our best manager by a country mile. Left the club with some great young players and a great future.

Robinson had 3 good seasons and left a mess.

I agree that Fergie was great for us. IMO, if he had decided to stay, we'd have had a real chance of going places with him. But let's not forget that, although our board sacked him, the rumours were abound that he manoeuvred his way out. He obviously thought he'd outgrown us and, for many, left under a cloud of suspicion.

As I said in my previous post, Robinson has to be up there with the likes of Fergie, even with the predicament he undoubtably left us with.

Definitely in the debate.

How long was Ferguson at the club?

At the end of the day he was an outstanding manager elsewhere, winning trophy after trophy.

Different era, always impossible to directly compare.

Lots of our current support will have no memory, unfortunately,of his time and, as you rightly say, the legacy he left.

Yeah, can’t argue about the mess left. Although Robbo would never get a great vote at any club he’s managed relative to a youth policy.

If it wasn’t for Fergie we would be a Clyde or Dumbarton now or maybe we wouldn’t even exist

Explain yourself, don’t mean that in a confrontational way, just need more detail.

Cheers.

When fergie came to us we were in the doldrums, could not beat carpets. I remember a game at Love Street against Queen  of the South. We’re 3.0 down at half time  we lost 5.0 but the Q o S players were making fools of us. It was like that most weeks then fergie came. Brought pride back, great young players, bought wisely, Jackie Copland, Jimmy Bone etc. within half a season we were a completely different team. If fergie had not been sacked by a jealous board we would have won the league as it was were a force to be reckoned with for a couple of more seasons due to the foundations laid by him. Best manager by a mile.

Frewboy knows

Teams like QotS,East Stirling,Airdrie,Montrose,Clyde were taking 5 or 6 goals off us on a regular basis home and away Crowds were around 1000/1100 and the stadium was crumbling

Fergie arrived in 74 and within a couple of seasons crowds were up and Love St was a fortress Fergie went around the Town with a loud hailer encouraging people to come to LS and very quickly crowds of 5 figures were quite common

I have no doubt if it wasn’t for Fergie we’d be playing in the basement of Scottish football……….or worse

I agree with almost all of this. The exception being, "sacked by a jealous board". Sacked by a suckered, stupid board AFAIC. I'm as certain as I can be that Aberdeen were champing at the bit to get Fergie. IF the board hadn't been so stupid as to fall for sacking him, Fergie would have, IMO, still moved on at the time he did, but, Saints would have got some cash for the move. The draw of Aberdeen was just as strong for Fergie as it was for Goodie and Robinson.

Thank you for that, insightful.

That QOS game was a watershed , the absolute bottom rung on the ladder for us. We conceded four at Stenny and three v East Fife in the next two games , then enter Fergie. He didn't hit the ground running but by the time these three games came round again a few months later , we beat QOS at Palmerston and East Fife at Methil and horsed Stenny at home. No looking back after that.

I remember a protest at the back of the stand after the QotS game

I also remember their keeper Allan Ball  getting a presentation from Saints for his 500th appearance

Strange the things you remember 😂

No rumours of an appointment apart from some strange guy on twitter. Would have thought something would have been leaked.

Surely McLeish is out the picture now

It's a sign we have a professional board that don't blab about things going on behind the scenes.

Changed days from the "bowling club" mentality of years gone past.

I misread that as bawling club mentality

Then I thought might be right given some of our supporters

For me the last season tarnished Robinsons time at St Mirren. It's clear he knew things had taken a turn for the worse, was looking for a way out and won the lottery when the basket case club that is Aberdeen came calling. The football was brutal (apart from the 2 games at Hampden) and the recruitment about as bad as I've ever seen at the club. I'm afraid that legacy will haunt us for another season as the quality of the players in contract till 2027 is dismal. Only 5 or 6 are SPL players. The rest would struggle in the Championship.

It's funny, this "recruitment about as bad as EVER" point when we won a national trophy?

Surely we've had worse players than the guys who beat Celtic convincingly at Hampden?

Short memories or no memory at all from some IMO.

After the cup final, overall, the wheels came off, no doubt but , just to remind some people we had a horrendous run of injuries and were victims of incompetent officials, not VAR, on several occasions, none of these to do with Robinson.

Anyhow, we'll be hoping the new manager gets us off to a flyer as the last thing he needs is a bad start.

Indeed!
Bizarrely one of those much worse players will likely line up against Scotland at a World Cup despite being shite for us 7 years ago!Après l'élimination d'Haïti de la Gold Cup, Duckens Nazon croit qu'il n ...

The First-Half performance made me forget all about the rain and wind.  The players were playing very well with some fast paced passing and playing decent football.

I appreciate what Stephen Robinson did for us and what he helped us achieve but Craig McLeish has got us playing some good stuff.  It's good to have Stuart Taylor back in Paisley, a man who has a good reputation in the game.

I was nervous that all the opportunities we weren't taking would come back to haunt us but we got our well deserved Half-Time lead thanks to big Jonah Ayunga.  A great piece of solo skill to beat two Aberdeen players and set himself up for a tremendous finish.  I'm very pleased to see him back.

The Second-Half wasn't as enjoyable as the first, with us sitting back a bit more and Aberdeen enjoying a lot more possession but creating very little with it.  Shamal George wasn't troubled too much either.

Alex Gogić's goal from a great Scott Tanser cross was superb as well.  It reminded me of a header he scored for us into the same net infront of the Family Stand early into his time at Saints.

It's always great to beat that mob.  They really are a deluded set of supporters, thinking their club are something special and too good a club to be losing to the likes of St. Mirren.  Up 'em.
