Comedy gold. Your last league title was 1936..... thats like saying Queens Park are big still. Talk about living in the past. Mate we have Leeds Forrest Derby villa and Middlesborough... that have won far bigger and far more recent. The only thing ur team has accomplished is plummetting towards oblivion with another sugar daddy to the rescue........ sorry but all facts..

Someone has sour grapes. If you ask any honest football fan that has one iota of footballing knowledge, they'll agree that Sunderland are one of the biggest clubs in England. They are, and that's a fact. Despite the fact we've been shit for however many years.

It clearly hurts you deep down to admit the truth so you just keep living in your little bubble! :D

Chelsea, Spurs, Arsenal, Liverpool, Man City, Man Utd, Newcastle, Everton, West Ham, Aston Villa.

There’s 10 teams off the top of my head that destroy the use of the word ‘easily’ in regard to Sunderland being in the top 10 of English big clubs. Your choice of wording, not mine. ‘Easily’ - my arse. A case could even be made for dirty Leeds.

The only thing Sunderland are most certainly easily in, is League One.

West Ham? Behave ahaha! Newcastle are considered 'bigger' because they had a few games in the Champions League back when they were half decent, they've still achieved nothing and bottled the league when they were how many points clear..

Domestically, Sunderland are more successful than Newcastle. But who is bigger depends on who you're asking. It's arguable.

But West Ham? I want some of whatever you're smoking. The rest I agree with.

What is Sunderland quality exactly. Successive relegations.... they are only considered biggish because 35000 muppets have nothing better to do for 40 mins..... 3rd biggest team in Tyneside...  wow.... oh and an FA cup before Jack was born.......

And the other FA Cup, and the six league titles. Whether you like it or not mate, and even as a Sunderland fan it doesn't feel like it right now, Sunderland are easily in the top 10 biggest clubs in England.

We're shadowed only by the likes of Everton, Spurs, Man United, Liverpool etc..

Have other teams been more successful than us over recent years? Absolutely. Leicester and even Burnley accomplishing wonderful things in recent years but in terms of size of club, there's not many bigger than Sunderland.

You have summed him up perfectly in your opening sentence. Thanks for the good wishes towards us for next season. As a long-time Newcastle United fan (they play in the same kit as us, they are close to Scotland, and I like the Geordies), then I cannot return the good wishes. I hope you get pumped. :P

I don’t believe you will get pumped, I believe you will be challenging at the top end of the division you find yourself in.... which is League One. Snigger. Mon’ the Toon!

I'd question you as a Newcastle fan if you didn't wish us the worst, the feeling is mutual. Hopefully we're playing each other next season! :P

Re the above mention of a friendly sweetener - id hope it would be in Sunderland - the pre season friendly with Sheffield Wednesday was a great day out, so lets hope its at the stadium of light.

We have probably lost 2 of our best 3 players with Davis and Morgan going, now the manager - I wonder if Jack is likely to come in for McGennis or perhaps Cammy Smith, both who you would think would do a good job in that division with the potential to play at a higher level.

You'd have a cracking time. I really hope something is sorted.

Tony Pulis is the same. Gets results out of average players. Then the fans think those average players should be playing silky football so they turn on the manager.

I don't know why you'd be shocked at anything Everton fans do though.

You're absolutely right. I think Pulis will do a good job over time at Boro and probably establish them as a mid-table PL club, that's what he's good at.

I quite like Everton and its fans due to their overwhelming support with poor Bradley but I do agree that their fans can be over the top. Tonight I've seen @stmirrenactive describe Sunderland fans as self-entitled on Twitter which I quite simply refuse to accept, that however could be said for Everton fans. But what do you expect when your closest rivals are literally levels above.

Newcastle have the bragging rights over us at the moment but I'm grateful that both of us are fairly crap and not much really separates us in terms of success.

It's nice to hear someone actually say something positive about his management ability. I hope Everton get relegated next season for being a shower of ungrateful bastards.

I'm genuinely quite shocked at the way the Everton fans have acted. He took them from genuine relegation contenders to comfortable in the top half. Don't get me wrong, he doesn't play the greatest football but the bloke gets results. And I think that's why we Sunderland fans took to him so well because we weren't so used to getting results.

Trust me.. if Everton's season had gone the exact same way with someone like Sarri or Allegri in charge, they'd be waxing lyrical. Unfortunately Big Sam isn't a fashionable name and that's his downfall. He should really consider changing his name by deed poll to Samuel Allardici. He'd have more fans then.

Thats what i mean about the Ipswich thread where we wax lyrically about Jack. Great manager and obviously highly sought after. Plays great attacking football on the deck using young players with a hunger to suceed. A fantastic signing for you guys. Jack is the real deal.

I hope so mate. You lot are clearly gutted which is a great sign for us, but like I say, I'm not here to lap up your disappointment. I've been there and got the t-shirt.

Sunderland are a big club, and a club you can rare refuse when you're so early into your career like Jack because you'd be asking yourself will the opportunity come again?

That coupled with the money.. five times your salary, you'd be stupid to say no. And that's no disrespect to St Mirren, that's just down to the disgusting amount of money in English football. Even in League One.

I understand mate, I really do. I was the same when we lost Big Sam to England for what, one bloody game?

I've not come here to rub it in, I was genuinely interested in what Jack Ross could bring to my club. I live in Glasgow myself and have obviously heard of Jack Ross but I wanted to get a first hand account from those that know him best, you lot.

Did the FA tap him up?

    There was something at play..

Sunderland came out and issued a statement basically telling the FA to stop messing around. I don't think Big Sam was their first choice and they left us and him waiting for so long.

He was THE manager for us. He completely transformed everything. He kept us up and in great fashion, January on wards we were top 10 material. The excitement going into the following season was uncontrollable, the city and football club felt alive again, then came David Moyes..

Read the thread on Ipswich where we give lots of genuine and heartfelt comments to the IT fans. On here at the moment is a touch of bitterness about the whole affair.

You can expect a manager who will galvanise your club from players to fans and managment. In my opinion he’s destined for the top level. He’s been brilliant for us in the last two seasons, it’s been a miraculous turnaround in our fortunes.

He’s not affraid of a challenge and he’s proved that he can build a squad from scratch, and crucially he’s not scared to make big decisions on team selections. There’s no sentiment with players who aren’t performing.

You’ve bagged the best young manager in Scotland.

He's done a tremendous job as your gaffer. I hope he can turn around our fortunes the way he has yours, for too long we've been free-falling.

Yorkshire.... forget WDWB... he's a troll on here.  Jack has the potential to be a really top manager.  He works well with players and fans.  Very single-minded. Had a physically small squad in stature and in numbers.  Likes to press high up the park and likes his team to play what most fans,  including non Stop Mirren fans,  think/ thought was attractive football. His record on signings improved as his budget increased. Don't expect him to hang around for too long.  Sunderland are a big club I know,  with a great, well situated Stadium and a big fan base.  Our average crowds last season was 4447 and our stadium holds a maximum of 8023. Saints fans are passionate about  their team just like the Makems. Your average crowds and stadium are much bigger than ours.  Anyway. Should he be coming to you Then I think you are getting a good manager.

A sensible reply, that wasn't too difficult. Thank you good sir.

Fear not. Fricky will be on the Sunderland forum starting threads for you by this evening.

    A whole array of subjects/comparisons/insights

Or, you could just scan the self same threads on here.

Oh, is your stadium in the city centre ? ....

I'm assuming Fricky has previous?

The stadium is a five minute walk if that from the city centre, just across the Wearmouth bridge. Not bang in the middle of the city centre but damn near.
