  1. Why would SMiSA backing the CiC change peoples thoughts on the subject?

    Why wouldnt it?

Smisa is made up of perfectly reasonable people who obviously care deeply for St Mirren.

For Smisa to make a statement like that means that the perfectly reasonable people at Smisa have researched the cic and decided to support it.

    Does that answer your question?

  2. I thought the other chap down the front was gordian mothersole? Michelle Evans made a bit of an arse of herself and seemed to go into the meeting with some sort of agenda. Was very disappointed in the way she conducted herself on the night. She was completely oblivious to her almost rude line of questioning.

Spot on. I didn't think either of them were listening to the answers or (more likely) did not llike the answer about the debt as they were unable to criticise.

Yes, I felt an agenda was being served.

I also thing the conduct of the two of them was very poor indeed.

  3. Another things thats been nagging at me a bit from last night is this, RA said he wanted to do the cic thing while he was still active and could see the results rather than leaving a trust when he was 60 to do something philanthropic. He then said that after St Mirren had settled down and he had done his part, that 10000hours would do similar things with other groups.

From where im looking at it, this then means that 10000hours would have members in it from further afield than just St Mirren. Not a problem in itself, but is there not then a possibility that for talking sake if St Mirren have 300 members and some other group has double that the other group could then use voting power within 10000hours to gain control of the board of the football club?

Is 10000hours purely for the purpose of the aquisition of St Mirren or will it help other groups potentially creating the scenario above?

Also, I wasn't impressed with RA saying he didnt know if the outgoing board listened to him because they believed it or because he "was the only show in town"

Why? It sounded like an honest statement to me.

  4. heres a radical idea! instead of donating £10 a month to a company making NO Gaurantees what it will achive other than bars for its corporate sponsors etc....

why not INVEST £10 a month in the club?

    it has NO debt

it won't be run by a plethora of boards and commitee's

the football will come first, not the local women's Institute whist drive

it's been around for a few years

the current board have managed it wisely including the creation of a brand new (Debt Free) stadium

you might have already worked out this is St Mirren FOOTBALL Club, not the idealogical whim of a Sugar Daddy (minus the sugar)

    is it a runner?

No, because the clubs shares remain up for sale

  5. You're quite happy to put people "in danger" for the financial benefit of the club, is that not a bit of a strange action to agree to? What's happened to your crusade to protect society from religion?

I assume you now realise your choice of wording was totally inappropriate and in fact, did not not mean "dangerous" in your description.

Of course this is a great opportunity for everyone involved, lets hope we can get a few more groups too :D

I knew it wouldnt be long before one of the "Crusaders" bit.:lol:

Actually having listened to RA tonight I think this could be of benefit to the club. RA made points that nobody on here did.

  6. Were you at the same meeting as me ?

Perhaps Mr. A could clarify this.

I sure Mr A is unable to confirm that I was at the meeting as he has not had the pleasure of meeting me.

The point was perfectly clear, as was everything in the meeting.

If you left that meeting with unanswered questions then I am surprised as plenty opportunity was given to ask.

  7. Hmm, I'll need to wait on the transcript. I would have expected the Executive Board to have been put up for re-election at AGM's. However the point I was making is still valid - if whoever is on that Executive Board doesn't follow the wishes of the members, they won't have a membership and they won't be able to retain control of the club.

RA made it crystal clear that the the executive board will only be him, Fitzy etc initially as those who will be providing funding are used to dealing with these individuals.

They will be electable, could not have been clearer!

  8. Just back from the public meeting. Have finally got a very large important bit of the jigsaw. The power point presentation which was mailed to us is very misleading. A whole level has been strangely omitted from the top.

Right at the very top should be something which, during the presentation from Mr. Atkinson, slipped out. There is to be an EXECUTIVE BOARD. I have not heard of this before in the hundreds of posts since I started this thread a long time ago.

It seems this body will overseen all below it. The CIC board will have to agree its budget with this board. In turn the SMFC board will, in effect, report to it. The executive board with be (as best I can understand) made up of the founders of the CIC - Mr. Atkinson, a guy from the Kibble school and the rest of the people driving this scheme.

The community (us) will be expected to fund the interest on the debt (In the region of £1,000,000) by paying in our £10 an month, but the real power will remain with the unelected Executive Board who as far as I can see ain't paying a penny. Is that why it's called a Community Interest Company - because the community pay the interest on the loans ?

I think (hard to hear sometimes) the guy from the Kibble said this is because the as yet unnamed lenders of the £1,000,000 will only have 'confidence' in these Executive Board people (and not in us lesser mortals).

Im unsure as to why you reached that conclusion. Were you the person who repeatedly asked this question?

The important facts (as I see them) is that St Mirren FC will NOT inherit any debt.

The debt taken on by the CIC is entirely servicable by the cic IF it gets the support (which it will). If the cic were to collapse (which it wont) then the 52% shareholding goes up for sale and we are exactly where we are now.

Its relatively risk free for the club. Indeed the benefit to the club was laid out quite clearly.

  9. Thought there would have been a few posts about the meeting by now. I thought it went very well. RA was excellent. Some minger from Real Radio made a right @rse of herself and the line of the night went to the Bud who asked the question straight after her that was greeted with a spontaneous round of applause - brilliant!!!!. :cheers:notworthy

Whose yer diddy was there too - married life is clearly agreeing with him as he is not FITT Club material. :P

SID for once you make a decent point.

The small contigent at the front right just did not seem to understand what was really a very simple part of the concept. I also thought they were verging on being rude and I am unsure as to whether they have an agenda.

Other than that I was very happy with the concept of the cic and I am now a lot more excited about it than I was at teatmime tonight.

Richard Atkinson came across very well.

My opinion on the cic now is that if we (the supporters) do not support this then we will be passing up a real golden opportunity.

  10. Having attended the meeting tonight and having heard Richard talk about this very subject I must say that if this church decides to meet at St Mirren park then as a future cic member it is a good thing.

    The benefits are quite clear.

  11. I haven't moved any goal posts, and there is no evidence to suggest I have. Stop trying to muddy the waters to detract from your failings.

Whether an organisation is religious or not is irrelenvant, the facts remain the same. Only people who are present at any organisation's meetings will have to listen to their "teachings." Unless St Mirren fans make an informed choice to attend any event, they will have no interaction with any other organisation.

Intolerant behaviour only serves one purpose, to alienate potential fans from our good football club. As I've said previously, sections of our support do not appear to want the fan base to increase, they would rather we were an elitist club of a specific demographic.

Once again you are drivelling pish.

Being rude does not make your rantings any more plausible. I do not want religion near my football club because I think religion is both ignorant and dangerous.

The "fan base" angle is just nonsense.

  12. You've just explained yourself why the identy and beliefs of any group using the facility are irrelevant. Unless you are involved in said group, you will be nowhere near their meetings. Unless you ar present at said church's meeting you won't know what they are preaching, just as if you weren't there when the RAC were using the facility, you won't know what brand of motor oil they use.

You're argument is getting worse, hanging on by a thread now.

No it is not, stop moving the goal posts to suit your agenda,

The RAC are not religious......just as jaffa cakes do not contain meat.

Please do not ruin a decent debate with such stupidity as it detracts from the adult conversation.

Bluto: get stuck in, "identy" and "ar" for starters.

  13. Not that impressionable mind you. You know anyone who bought anything from CETCO for example? Who the fcuk were CETCO anyway? Aye, so, the point being, just because something is associated with St Mirren, doesn't mean anyone will suddenly want a piece of it. I mean, I like the kid Aaron Mooy, but I'm not going out to buy one of his exercise bikes.

    I rest my case.

Cetco are a company who pump sewage in Malaysia. The CEO at the time was an exiled buddie.

I like the Mooy excercise bike analogy, very good!

However afaik Aaron Mooy does not perch himself upon that bike whilst trying to convince kids in the main stand that the world is only 6000 yrs old, hell is a bad place and the big man is always watching you, even when you play with yourself! Ive never been that close to Aaron Mooy whislt he is on his bike so I may be wrong!

  14. Not at all.

I'm all for having just about ANY group help fund St Mirren and use a community facility or space. At no point have I intimated otherwise.

At the start of the thread, I did find it surprising that a Stock Street 'flock' would want to spend their funds on having meeting at Ghr, that's all...

I happen to strangely believe that religion has some practical use... such as in the area of social control, obviously. Hinduism helping the majority of the population of India accept their often dreadful place in life and within the caste system helps keeps the lid on that society. Like with christianity during the Industrial Revolution, people whose llives are shite can look forward to a happy place in the after-life or next incarnation...

And If religious institutions were a wee bit more successful in brainwashing people into being kind to one another then I couldn't fault that.

The BB helped keep me (mostly) on the straight and narrow when I was battering through the teenage years and pubescent madness that ktf is currently trying to deal with.

A debate on religion and the concept of a god doesn't need to obscure the fact that good people do believe in things I don't and that religious groups can be a force for good.As ktf points out, debate can be healthy fun. :)

Contrary to popular opinion, I agree.

I just have an issue with us allowing a religious group having an connection with a football club.

    People are impressionable after all.

  15. This too, was a good thread, before folks got hyper-sensitive and took things overly personally. :(

I was enjoying my chats with Bluto...

    Quite.

Considering the debate that this proposal has stirred up then is it fair to say that having this religious group at St Mirren park is just too controversial and as such should not be allowed to happen?

  16. Do you mean e-mail him or post on here to spark a debate? If its the latter then how about I start things off with use of the car park, and free admission for accompanied under 16's. If both were on offer it might not entice me back to watch football on a regular basis at Greenhill Road, but it would probably entice me to part with a tenner a month for the odd occasion when I do go.

Thank you for small mercies

  17. PoppyCOCK! Your post is embarrassingly stupid. Firstly, you very childishly award a dot to someone who agrees with you. Rather sheepish behaviour that someone like you would ordinarily associate with religion. :P

You then slabber nonsense about "disaproval" and "hate" being words that detract from provoking and interesting debate then slabber "blindly defend its honour".

Don't get me wrong your incenduary tone is the sandwich to my meat, but I just wanted to helpfully point out your blatant stupidity. :P

Usual standard of self absorbent pish.

I awarded a green dot as I liked the quote. The clue is where I said "very good quote".

The rest of that post sid is pish, it doesnt mean anything. As usual you add nothing. You are best sticking to making up rumours, that best defines your level.

  18. Got to disagree with you there, bud. I'll be very surprised if you don't have a family member or friend who supports one or other of the OF. I’m sure you can hate these institutions without hating the individual?

Have a green dot for that one. Very good quote indeed.

One of the obvious features of this thread has been the tendancy for posters to confuse "disaproval" and "hate". Quite unfortunate as it has detracted from what should be a thought provoking and interesting debate.

Religion is best kept away from from football clubs. This can be evidenced by the amount of debate that this very thread has generated.

Im also taken aback somewhat at the amount of posters on here who react so passionately in defence of the church. Maybe if some of you were to actually attend church rather than blindly defend its honour then the congregation would not need to approach our community football club for assistance !
