I use a Creative Zen W, which also plays video and can store thousands of pictures. Probably a bit too dear for your needs, but I wouldn't part with it now. It's a great wee gadget and I love it.

The same symbol is on one of my old phones, the Sony K750i. It meant that you had a missed call.

Go into your Nokia's call register and see if there are any missed calls. That might get rid of the symbol.
