  1. Don't know what site you're looking at but London to San Francisco is listed as 11hrs for most operators. At present Amsterdam-SF is 11hrs 30mins, but it will drop in Summer to around 10hrs 50mins. Last time I flew to LA it was over 11hrs.

I don't mind the jets out of Glasgow. 757s are fine and being smaller less people to delay things! Heard some poor things about 747s from BA, they are gradually being withdrawn and are tired.

Yes, 10hrs50 for both. I hadn't taken CET into account.

I find the 747 more of a landscape in which to spend that amount of time. There's scope for going for a lengthy, discreet wander without getting on anyone's tits.

You've got the unofficial exercise area, which is a screened off section between the back row and the bogs, which even has windows to keep you amused, as you try keep DVT at bay.

You can also get your leg up and have a bit of a stretch on the staircase at the other end. I also favour the secret extra legroom window seats, where the fuselage narrows towards the tail, and they compensate by ripping a seat out on both sides.

BAs 777s are far superior to their ageing 747s in my experience. Really like the 777.

The original 777-200 themselves are now also a bit long in the tooth, although BA's 777-300 are all no more than a few years old, and significantly larger as well.

  2. I don't recall the flight times to the west coast being as bad as some suggest.

I recall flying LHR-San Francisco and Amsterdam to LA, both in 10 hours. In fact, I've just done a mock booking to the west coast to confirm that I hadn't lost the place, an it is indeed 10 hours for the transatlantic leg.

Two things I'd suggest as an alternative to a package deal, for a better experience, and most likely, price:

Keep an eye on KLM, who I find have consistently got the best prices, and they also commonly fly 747s transatlantic, which is preferable to making the journey in a tin can from Glasgow. KLM are also bringing in the US customs pre-clearance option, but it's not available yet.

Think about AirBnB, where you can dig out some amazing places to stay, far better than a hotel, but at a fraction of the cost. The authorities in New York are actually trying to do something about AirBnB, so that gives an idea of the effect that it's having.

I've yet to visit anywhere in the States that I wouldn't hurry back to, although perhaps avoid Bayview in San Francisco unless you'd like to witness an authentic drive by shooting.

  3. Sky Sports News are at Ralston, where Gary Teale has given a statement to the media throng, which will no doubt be screened again.

Confirms that he is "over the moon", and wishes to get into management at some stage. Thanked Tommy for giving him the chance, but failed to confirm if he is "sick as a parrot" for Tommy.

  4. Amateurs is right. They couldn't see past treating it the same as the Livingston tie, for some reason, even although they only had 711 at the previous round when they beat Queens Park. i.e. the stadium was more than three quarters empty.

When we had the meeting with the two police forces, Strathclyde confirmed that our tie in the previous round at Ayr had to be delayed for 30 minutes to let the 3000+ St.Mirren fans in. Lothian and Borders confirmed that we had taken 3000+ to Easter Road in the previous year's competition.

At the time, Mi**ey La**on himself, came to watch us winning 4-1 at Airdrie, where we outnumbered the home support.

Yet, they were adamant about allocating us 400 tickets for a match that was being played on an unsecured public park, next to a main road, with fences that weren't high enough to stop people from looking, or indeed climbing, over them.

As it happened, the game only went ahead after they were forced to increase the height of the fences, via building work that they scrounged from local businesses, and raise the allocation to 1000.

They would already be in the Scottish League if they hadn't been so busy pissing people off over the years. Sneakily lobbying the lower league clubs to try and get East Stirling demoted (they haven't been in the league for decades without picking up some friends at the clubs you're lobbying, dafties), and scouring the rule books to get teams chucked out of the Scottish Cup on technicalities (which later happened to S******s toolaugh.png. Again, people talk to each other).

On their most recent bid to enter the Scottish League, they were laughably eliminated after the first round of voting. They did their usual and hit the press with incendiary quotes, alleging 'jealousy' amongst the voting clubs.

No, it's much simpler than that.

Understandably, NO ONE LIKES YOU! And it's come back and bitten you on the arse.

Ask the H**s how far trying to bully and threaten people got them, when they needing a favour from the same people.

  5. I'll never forget that chance that Spartans had against us in the last minute. I'm pretty sure their player skewed it wide from about 2 yards.

I could foresee all the embarrassment, cup shock newspaper headlines & slaggings in work just as he was about to shoot. Thank f**k he missed it.

I felt that people overplayed that 'chance', probably because the game had generally been such a chance-free shit-fest.

My old man asked me about the great chance S******s missed, when I was on the phone to him after the game, and I had to ask him to clarify, "What chance?" The guy had an opportunity to shoot, but he still had it all to do, with a crowded penalty box between him an the goal. He swiftly shat it, and screwed a woefully tame effort, miles wide of the post.

  6. It wasn't intended to be strictly scientific, more a general idea.

To be scientific you'd need to use starting 11's from the whole season and use the players age in days, not years. To be frank, I couldn't be arsed doing that.

If I had done however, I'm pretty certain we'd be even further clear at the top of the table.

Remarkably, 6 of our starting 11 from Saturday have had a birthday since September 5th. (Kello, McAusland, Drury, Ball, Reilly and McGinn). I'd be astounded if most of any other teams starting 11 had had a birthday in the last 6 weeks.

So, using whole years as opposed to days has actually skewed the data against us.

And when it's all said and done, there isn't a significant difference in age between us and quite a few other teams.

  7. The conclusions are flimsy because only whole years are being used.

The starting data has zero decimal places, which renders the two decimal places in the results as irrelevant.

Not to mention that the starting data is only a snapshot in time.

ln the form given, with no further analysis, all this shows is that a few teams in the league, including Saints, have young players.

  8. In the heady days when the **** couldn't buy a win at Love Street, Peter Mackie simply refused to accept Ally McCoist's late equaliser, and proceeded to burst straight down the middle of the **** to rattle in an even later winner.

This was no mean feat considering the **** had none other than Derek Johnstone at centre half that day.

  9. Just thinking about the three into two scenario in the First Division next season. Surely there is a now strong argument for Hearts and Hibs to merge into one club to help them compete? whistling.gif

If only they had recognised what a visionary Wallace Mercer was, all of this didn't need to happen.
