  1. I actually know this guy. I haven't seen him for years though. We played in the same boys football team in Stevenston (Hawkhill BC).

His name is Gordon Sawers and believe it or not, he would only be 37 now. Although he seems to have been a regular customer at the Killie pie stall for the last 20 years.

Have to say in his defence that he was always one of the nicest guys you could ever meet.

Plenty pals, brilliant laugh. He was always a top bloke.

Absolutely mad about football. Playing it and supporting Killie. What a player he was too. He was on Alloa's books for a wee while and then spent the rest of his playing days in the juniors. He was always that wee bit over weight though and that is probably what stopped him becoming a good pro.

  2. Can't see him playing championship football with us a Onform John Mcginn would walk into most teams in country

True! An ON-FORM Mcginn would, but after the season he has just had nobody will part with 300k compensation for him. He hasn't kicked a ball for well over a year.

So Mcginn, like Mclean last summer will be left with 2 options, sign a new contract with us or move abroad for free.

  3. I'd add:-

    5. If you absolutely positively MUST take advice from fans make sure you rule out those that can't tell that 13 points is a bigger number than 8.

Maybe add a number 6 too.

    6. If you absolutely positively MUST take advice from fans make sure you rule out those that can't tell that the Motherwell and RC humpings were an utter embarrassment and that those 2 performances alone should be enough to seal Teale's fate.

  4. So he is going to leave ICT who will probably get into Europe for a club in a lower league with a low budget. Personally I don't think he is even worth considering

Sometimes people take a job for the sake of their family rather than for career progression. I live where I am now due to family reasons and had to take a BIG hit on my salary/career prospects into the bargain.

You never know, he maybe only took the ICT job because it was the only/first club to get him back into management and allowed him to put some bread on the table.

I don't think it would be take much to get him to move to a central belt club, including dropping a league if he is the type of man to put his family first.

Having said that I couldn't see us stumping up any compo for anyone, so it kind of rules him out.

  5. If we follow the following when recruiting a new boss then we won't go far wrong:

    1. Don't promote from within.... (Coughlin, Craig, Fitzpatrick, Mcpherson & Teale)

    2. Don't get a manager from the lower leagues....

    3. Don't take a retired player with no previous experience from either within or outwith the club.

    4. Don't keep Teale who has quite frankly done a worse job than Craig.

  6. Gary Teale shouldn't even be considered for the job in my opinion.

Yes, he took over a pile of crap from TC, but he had a transfer window to try and do something about it and somehow has managed to get us performing even worse than Craig did.

There is no way anybody can say that TC served us up anything as bad as the Motherwell and County drubbings of recent weeks.

We were shite under TC, but Teale turned us into complete shite.

    NO from me.

ETA... Butcher or Calderwood, as it should have been when TC went.

Actually! As it should have been when DL went.

  7. It will be interesting to watch from the outside and see what happens with Girona.

If in a few years Girona are out of business and the Argies walk away with a sack full of cash, then we can all breathe a huge sigh of relief.

On the other hand, if they are an established La liga side who are doing reasonably well for a club of their size, then I for one will be a little bit gutted.

  8. Reports in Spain that the Argies are about to buy Girona for €2m. Looks like we've missed the boat on this one.

You are bang on with that mate. THE DEAL FOR ST MIRREN IS OFF.

I spoke to my mate tonight who lives in the Costa del sewage (Malaga). He says that it is in the Spanish media today that Pini arrived in Girona today and the deal will be announced by tomorrow afternoon.

Apparently, Pini and his brother Sebastien along with a USA based Argie and a Swiss investment company will be shelling out 2m Euro for 80% of the shares. They will pay 1m Euro up front and they will also pay 650,000 Euro by the 9th April to stop Girona from going bust.

All parties including insolvency court have agreed to the change of ownership and the deal is done basically.

St Mirren got mentioned in a few reports too. They said that the consortium had been in open discussions with the Saints board since last year, but that deal will NOT be going ahead now.

  9. As the next game is a foregone conclusion we might as well look to the next nearly winnable game.

We NEED to win this one though I'm not sure the players have the heart to respond.

We do have the players to win it but do we have the nuance?

    I'm not sure.

That'll be in August at home to Dumbarton

  10. Why would it be "very attractive"?

The club hasn't made a significant profit in any financial year since Stewart Gilmour became Chairman. Turnover is flat. There's no sign of significant new revenue coming in either from sponsorship, TV Rights, or from any significant commercial activity within the club. The facilities at SMP have only modest potential for income generation. The dome was put in as an after thought to try to generate some income on non matchdays - at a guess I would say it turns a small profit but nothing significant. And the training ground at Ralston is not owned by St Mirren, it's owned by Renfrewshire Council and let to St Mirren on a medium term contract which restricts St Mirren's ability to use the facility to generate income. There doesn't even seem to be the prospect of a large latent support returning to St Mirren if results start going the clubs way because the last major trophy won in 2013 did not see any significant increase in supporter numbers either before or after the final. I'd imagine to any outsider looking in the club would appear to be at the top of their potential right now and the club is still struggling year on year to turn a profit.

Ok, I'll rephrase it as "more attractive than buying a debt ridden club", who you immediately have to bail out.

Buying St Mirren would be a case of getting straight down to business on an even keel.

  11. I think the question that has to be asked now is "Why is the club proving to be so difficult to sell"?

After all, we are debt free and have a brand new stadium and training complex. This should all be very attractive to potential buyers you would think. Obviously it is not so attractive though.

It seems it is more fashionable/economically beneficial to buy a club that is up to it's neck in debt. More money to be made in this type of scenario rather than ours it would seem.

  12. FFS. It was a friendly with Kello starting, no Tess', an untried CB pairing, McLean just been sold, Naismith taking a pounding and going off, Mallan taking one on the ankle and going off, half a game from a still not 100% Thommo, no Ozzy, Arquin has just arrived and been sent off twice (harshly), denying him valuable game time, multiple substitutions, new guys appearing all over the place, a player granted training courtesy (Gow) being handed a run out, and many of them were kids - Sadlier and Snoopy.

Excuse me while I refrain from demanding heads must roll!

They treated it more like a friendly than us. Completely new team at h/t.

We were miles ahead of them in terms of match fitness, but they were still miles ahead of us in ability.

Different level I'm afraid. Imagine if they had Lampard playing too.

  13. very true.

And don't forget how many happy-clappers were creaming themselves with Saints pre-season free-scoring forward line(Ball, Marwood etc...) in those friendlies

It was a friendly, this is true!

I am just glad it wasn't a competitive match, if it were they would probably have made us look even more inferior.

Light years ahead of us. They would win the Scottish Premier at a canter.

One thing is for sure, we'll have a much easier game at the weekend.
