  1. 1. This is simply untrue. I will be replete with apologies if you can find one instance where Gus said this. IIRC there were many people charmed by him when they encountered him at the ground - and in the chats with fans like the one arranged for this week.

    2. Again - I hate to call someone a liar - but I really would like to see your sources to justify such an outrageous claim.

    3. Quoting out of context is yet another instance of fudging reality. Gus was validly replying in a conversation with a journalist about the quality of football involved in a relegation battle and he quoted what Jim Jeffries of Kilmarnock had said earlier in the week. Not Gus's original thought or opinion - but that of someone else entirely. If you want a final straw then you had to have been a Killie supporter at the time to make that one stick.

To be honest, I am not the best at recalling information, stats, specific occasions etc, and so I will take what you say to be true...

What I am quite good at though is remembering how I, and I am sure many others, felt at the time. I guess, perception has an interesting way of influencing reality!

What I mean is, I don't remember any interviews in which Gus stated that the fans were the '11th man' or that he was 'proud of the traveling support and that performance was for them', or that he 'appreciated that the fans are passionate about the club and so are understandably voicing their opinion' or anything like that. I may be wrong and you may be able to provide numerous examples - if so, again I will eat humble pie - I enjoy that taste :-)

And so the the perception that I got from last season was that Gus really found the fans an irritation, as opposed to Danny's method of, at least, weekly interviews on the 'fishal site, Q&A sessions and a very open managerial approach, which I think most fans really appreciate.

Like I said though, my impression of Gus and last season could well have just been my perception.

  2. You are just another emample of how St Mirren fans know no loyalty. Given what he did for our club, he deserved loyalty for the fans. He had never let us down and yet individuals like yourself turned on him, for what are clearly personal issues. Shame on you. The club is better without supporters like that.

Definitely at the wind-up! You gave it away with this post - the irony of which is probably completely lost on you!

Know no loyalty? Yet you are asking for a manager to be sacked after only 7 games, where is your loyalty? Gus was given 7 years, many fans gave 5/6 years loyalty before many turned against him for obvious reasons i.e. football being pish, shite signings etc.

He let us down big time at Hampden with the best chance St Mirren will have of winning a cup in probably my life time, this in fact was the final straw for many and the reason many who had not already turned on him, did turn.

There are no personal issues as I'm sure the vast majority of people on here do not know Gus personally.

You should support the current manager, whoever he may be. Asking for him to be sacked after 7 games...SHAME ON YOU!

One of the main reason, I reckon, that so many turned on him in the last few months was that he clearly stated that he couldn't stand the St Mirren fans and him and Andy Millen had absolutely no respect for the people who were, ultimately, paying their wages.

Some of the "go to the pictures, then" comments were the final straw, imo!

  3. Not looked this thread until now.

Taking a quick read over the pages, I am totally astonished by the amount of absolute cack that some people are posting.

The board should swallow their pride and approach Gus with an apology.

I've seriously not read so much utter mince since putting S*lent M*jority on 'ignore'! Danny Lennon is, what, seven matches into the SPL season, the team played the best that we have seen them so far on Saturday. Yes, the result was extremely disappointing and we'll have to see a change in defensive lineup and some better results coming our way pretty soon. But get an effing grip, Danny is the club manager and as St Mirren 'supporters' we should be 100% behind him, not harking back to previous managers and coming up with ridiculous suggestion like asking them to come back, when the season is only 7 matches old. It is pathetic and shows a complete lack of support, bottle and common-sense. It would also make us the laughing stock of Scottish football, which we aren't at present, despite what many of the new-knicker-wetters/gusophiles are suggesting.

If you have to ask people why it is a stupid suggestion, when it is hinted at in more than two or three posts why it is a stupid suggestion and you still don't get it, then it's time to have a serious re-think about your status as a St Mirren fan.

Bring back gus after 7 matches... FFS, what a ludicrous idea!

  4. so mssing players that gus signed are key?

No, missing players are the key.

how are we different from any other club in that respect?

its ironic that the knicker wetters never used these excuses when gus was boss!

Gus was shite/average/good season after season - that's why excuses/reasons/praise never came in this form. He had a bigger wage budget - fact. He had Setanta money - fact. He was given time - fact.

Danny Lennon has been in charge for 6 proper matches. He has a drastically reduced wage budget. He has no TV money to spend. People are calling for his head already.

Gary Blues, you were so desperate for Gus to stay after a long time in charge in which there was no real improvement. Now you are so keen for Danny to go after no time at all. You make no sense whatsoever.

  5. FFS, it is 6 games we have played and from where I am looking on the league table only the old firm are streets ahead. Hamilton have been getting plaudits but are 1 point ahead of us while Hibs are in freefall if you believe the press. Btw, this ICT beat Dundee Utd 4-0 away but i never heard people scrambling for Peter Houston to be sacked. It is far too early to talk about sackings when there are 90 points to play for. Judge DL when he has a full squad to choose from. Some players are adapting to life in a higher league while DL has had to play some out of position or play a specific formation due to 4 key players missing; Barron, Dargo, Higdon and Thompson - all would likely be first choice picks.

I have watched the team since 1967 and have seen worse sides. However, to call for Gus to be brought back is a joke when many stopped coming for the negative shite that was displayed week in week out. DL needs time and backing and will learn from his mistakes like many other better managers have done. I have seen some knickerwetting in my time but this takes the biscuit and we are not even out of September yet. I am confident that we will improve this season once we have those key players back and others adjust to the pace of the SPL. I have not seen anything special from Fakes or ICT to think that they are miles better than us.

If we are not good enough to stay up this season then we will regroup and come back stronger. The difference being that we will not be in debt and we will still have a club. I would think a number of clubs - Dundee being one - would like to be in our position at this time despite our poor results.

The bottom line is that St Mirren are dealing in the bargain basement of football - the Primark of this world. Others, many in debt, e.g. Killie, Dundee Utd and Hearts, are paying much higher wages than we can afford. The club nearly went out of existence in the first division and our board pulled a rabbit out of the hat and managed to get us onto an even keel, out of debt and providing us with a brand new stadium and training ground. How some forget those dark days and if we had been offered this position back then we would have bitten the hands off those offering to be where we are. It is time to get a reality check. We cannot compete wage wise with a lot of those clubs and players will always go where the money is. Developing our own youth set up and bring through talent is the preferred route bearing in mind the cost of establish our new training facilities. I would love to see us playing the quality of football seen between 75 and 83 but it's not going to happen overnight or maybe ever again. Any decent talent we bring through will be hard to keep as many others will be able to offer more money. However, we are where we are and the squad, minus some of our more talented players, is what we have. We need to stick with the manager and players to see how they perform over a longer period than simply the first 6 games. Remember, Hamilton had a horrendous start to last season - and this to be honest, but managed to pull things together. Have a bit of patience as shouting and ranting as the manager and players will have a detrimental effect. We all love our club but part of loving the club is to support it even when things are going belly up.

    2 absolutely brilliant posts!
