  1. Not only is it a word but...

There is at least one other building in Paisley that IS "Rennie Mackintoshish" and if/when that is dropped into this thread by Sonny, then I may wax more lyrical.... suffice to say that... Desperately Seeking Susans currently lives in a wonderful hoose that he would now like to sell... in Skelomorlie.

And the Paisley/Rennie Mackintoshish connection starts there.

So I wouldn't be surprised if there weren't a few Paisley buildings in which Rennie Mackintosh had a very junior hand. :)

Christ - reading back - that is so stupidly cryptic... ach well..... :P

To those whose posts are oft' illegible, take a leaf out of Bluto's book.

If he does it, so should you!

  2. Assumptions, and Pressumptions Keyboard Wanker ? Feel free to meet and express your concerns about my state of Health ? I am free - Frid - Mon ! anytime after 5pm ? Up for it Interweb Shite-Hawk ?

Here we go again, half 2 in the morning and being challenged to "meet up"... Right you are! Fancy a game of hopscotch?

  3. It's the Buckie, he can't handle it... Or the embarrassment of making a complete and utter arse of himself. But it only lasts a few days until the embarrassment of it all wears off - a bottle of Buckie usually helps with that.

There is a name for people who can't function without alcohol, but far be it from me to call anyone an alcoholic...!

  4. You know, I upgraded to OSX 10.7.3 "Lion" recently and it has this iOS style autocorrect. But it doesn't just "correct" bad spelling, it considers the grammar and changes words depending on whether it thinks that word fits into that context in the sentence. Very annoying! That's why "board" was changed to "beard" and why "missus" always changes to "misses".

  5. Both the misses and I have been signed up since day 1! It's great to see others, especially those who have been sceptical, getting on beard and signing up. If you are unsure and unconvinced by this model or by REA then, now, the only way to put weight behind your opinions is to sign up and take an active part in the Co-op and club.

Events at 'other SPL clubs' recently (and almost ours...) have shown that we need to get this deal done and dusted as soon as possible. It's also a great way for the far flung fuds to be central to what is going on at the club, even from a distance.

Remember also, it will be a good thing for the town and for community groups, schools, kids clubs, churches, charities etc... And so get the word out to as many people as possible who you think might have connections that will benefit from this going ahead! It's full steam ahead now!

Viva la CiC and the future of St Mirren FC!!!

  6. You are right about the he Gamesroom in the Basement FS ! It had 3 full size Snooker tables that I played on many a Tuesday and Thursday ? Can you remember the Big Baths downstairs FS ?

You are also correct about the tennis courts at the Rear of the Rec next to the Football Park ? They had benches on the steps of both side's of the Building.

The head Groundsman had a cottage at the Entrance of the Rec ( Tom Speirs ) I think was his name.

    Another alias ?

  7. PCTURE 17 was correctly identified as Cochranes/Arnotts in Gauze Street.

'The Arnotts' building was designed by one of Paisley's most respected architects, JS Steel Maitland, opening in 1927, and taking on the Arnott's name in 1973. The B-listed building has been lying empty since the store closed in 2002'.

Right, I am away to Edinburgh now - and not to take photographs!

    PICTURE 18

That's a great pic, Sonny, love the abbey in the background like that. I'm dithering over whether to use this or one of Buddie Brilliant's on his thread as my wallpaper on my pc at work - what a great dilemma to be in!

    smile.png

clap.gifclap.gifclap.gif It is a tremendous picture, right enough!

  8. I thought they were based in the huge building to the left at the end of these tenements and before the Regal, where their vehicles were stored/serviced? Sanny worked there with them. (Mighty Eighth BB captain.)

Fwiw... The uncle mentioned above went on to become an undertaker - with Goudie's.

So glad he got a mention at last! Thanks Bluto. Sanny or Alex Foulds was my great uncle, he died a few years back aged 92. Could tell a million and one stories of his life and what he did and saw from the merchant navy to the BB to the co-op transport dept to a co-op undertaker to being a police special. He was also the one who climbed into the Glen Cinema when the disaster struck, lifted a good number of kids out and opened the door to let the others out. He was a proud Buddie, a life long fan of St Mirren and would be so pleased to know he is remembered after his death.

  9. This is an excellent thread and I shall read it daily with anticipation and glee (no, not the shitey US kids programme)! Paisley is a beautiful town with amazing buildings, a wonderful history and fabulous people. It's easy to to tag it "shitehole", "junkie-ridden" and whatever else the unimaginative negs like to say. I say it is my town, it is wonderful and I love it!

FWIW I live in one of the only remaining buildings that formed the Ferguslie Thread Works site and I'm within spitting distance of tomorrow's building!

Also, as I work in the West End, Gallows Green (at least one of them) is between Queen Street and Maxwellton Street, at the back of Buddies. Although the tenements that squared it at the Queens Street side have been demolished so it's fair to say that Gallows Green is now on Queen Street, as it opens right up onto it. You can get to it from Maxwellton through a close. The 'new' dual carriageway that goes from the junction of Maxwellton Street and Broomlands Street to the roundabout at the end of Underwood Road is called Green Gallows Road.

Might post some pics past and present of my abode :)

  10. If you think that after apologizing for cutting off contact on the first bid REA thinks he can do the same on the second then you are wrong. The second bid is dead but he still remains which can only mean one thing. He will make a traditional bid for the club with others. Nothing else makes sense to me.

Reborn Saint: born, dead, reborn, redead, rereborn, reredead, rerereborn, rereredead, rererere... You get the idea!

    Make up yer feckin mind.

  11. I still believe that this is the best way forward for the club. A one-member-one-vote system that delivers true fan governance and affords opportunity for anyone, regardless of financial clout, to be a part of the running of the club, can only be a good thing.

From the times I chatted to him, I truly believe that Richard has full confidence in this model of how to run a football club and I'm pleased that he seems keen to still see it happen with St Mirren. Truthfully he could easily have gone to M*therwell or the likes and implemented his model there and given one of those clubs financial security into the future. Possibly if I had been him I would have done that after the way he was treated by sections of our "support" and by the local council and MSPs in Paisley.

Glad you've stuck it out Richard. Here's to another 135 years of St Mirren Football Club!
