They will finish above us,as they have done in the last four seasonsI think they'll be fine too, I also think they'll finish below us.
-
Lets not use st johnstone to excuse our lack of activity in the transfer market. On paper our starting line up isnt too shabby but if we get three or four injuries at the same time we will be totally screwed, not struggling,TOTALLY screwed
-
No 'course not. We've got no facilities of our own.
I was simply questioning on what basis St Mirren was deemed third best in the country. If it's in terms of facilities then that's fine. If it was in terms of results though that's got to be questionable. For that St Mirren would be behind the likes of Dundee United, Hamilton Accies and Falkirk amongst others right now and there would be a good case to put them behind many juvenile clubs too like the one I highlighted in my post - at Hutchison Vale, Tynecastle Boys Club, Mill United and at Harmony Row where despite lacking the resources being thrown at the Pro Youth system those clubs continue to produce extensive lists of players who make it as professional footballers, many even featuring in the full Scottish International Squad.
I've said many times that I'm not a fan at all of the current youth set up within Senior Scottish Football clubs. St Mirren's may well be improving and the PR around the club on this issue certainly looks strong, but in terms of value for money in terms of what has been spent, to what has been returned through the sale of players to clubs at a higher level the results still look poor.
Absolutely spot on

Promoting players to the first team squad is a great idea in theory but if they dont have the talent to be seriously challenging for a starting place then its just a numbers game, aimed at papering over the cracks .Reilly's name comes up every close season and its pretty sad to be honest, managers and fans alike have never fancied him and as much as we would love him to morph into a first team regular its not going to happen .Add youth and fringe players to 1st team squad by all means but do it for the right reasons and not to get the body count up
-
Hmm,i suppose i could captivate you with my famous Bristol City away Anglo Scottish Cup stories, the evening would fly by !!We could organise a saints0 night out!!!
-
Apart from the team its the most important thingYou should heighten your depressing threshold, it's only a football strip for goodness sake.
-
Not only a shite footballer but a self obsessed ,arrogant wanker.Suprised a Jack Ross night hasnt been suggested
-
Depressing how it takes fans a couple of minutes to knock up a glorious top yet the powers that be seem more than happy to churn out any old tat and expect us to buy it
-
Would happily buy both of them, happy days remembering when we were wearing adidas tops ,unfortunately they would be mortified to have their brand associated with us these days, but thanks for bringing back memoriesI quite like both of them with a couple of reservations. On the black and white strip the stripes look like the Roman numeral three or even the wickets I used to bowl at in the nets very occasionally at cricket training. Would like it more with a couple more stripes.
Quite like the 'away' strip but why not stripes? Stripes is us!

Im not !!! We have signed two players and nobody has any idea if they are good, bad or indifferent.A kid who may be our first choice centre back in the forthcoming season and a "striker" who prior to last season couldnt find a net if it was hanging off a trawler. We have absolutely nothing to be positive about until we see if they can cut it.as for kenny he was in our team last year so no change there.Thompson,Teale and McGowan THEY were signings, what we have been served up so far leaves me underwhelmed and everyone else in knicker wetting wonderland.Only time will tell who was right but dont mistake scepticism for negativity,i fully expect a great signing in the coming daysYou can be a dissenting voice that puts up arguments to points, don't think any one has a problem with that.
However, just being negative for the sake of it is a tad boring.
-
Or what keyboard warrior ? What exactly are you going to do ? Little wannabe bullies like yourself are the main reason i will remain an active user of this forum .You may wish it to be a love in where no dissenting voices are allowed but thankfully thats not and will never be the caseYou are an absolute prick and that's only on your good days of which you have few. Piss away off and give real St.Mirren fans peace you waste of space.
-
Thats us screwed thenWould also depend on the quality round about him
-
Well lets just agree to disagree,i am happy he is staying believe it or not but even happier we have a new face in todayNot everyone panics and whinges as much as you. In fact, nobody does. He could have gone to a bigger Scottish club very easily without incurring such a huge development fee.
-
Last minute for him doughnut not us,as in he wouldnt be getting paid if he didnt sign a new deal> 2nd July.
> Transfer window closes at the end of August.
> "The very last minute," apparently.
-
I am vilifying no one, merely pointing out that signing on again with us was left to the very last minute after he realised no one else wanted him.He wasnt even our best player last year and is not a new signing,we need at least four NEW faces and sharpishI also think you'll find that the word supporter does not mean vilifying everything to do with the team you are supposedly supporting, the truth that you speak about is your opinion, all that means is that you believe it to be the truth
-
I think you might find that the truth doesnt qualify for a banWhat has an eejit poster got to say to get cashiered from the Black & White Army?
-
If a marvellous job means continuing to employ a player not wanted elsewhere .Yes a real f**king coupSomeone at the club has done an absolutely marvellous job here. Let's not forget, our own chairman said this just after KM was named PotM for May:
So, well done, to whoever it was that convinced this boy to stay.
-
You say these days are over when did they become over?
Was it after we won the cup or after finished as the 8th best club in Scotland last year?
We will be some team if we ever go back to competing.
We need to start living in the present, the here and now.We kid ourselves how talented our youngsters are.Dundee utd have just sold a kid to sporting lisbon for three million, yet no one will pay 200k for the "outstanding" kenny mclean ,time we got real
-
Pre season training about to start and hardly any signings. Not a good start. Other teams are getting their act together and we as usual haven't started. Have we not learned from last year ? Five signings ( of reasonable quality ) that the manager has actually seen as opposed to watching on screen are needed to cheer me up , by the weekend . Then another two next week .
Did you honestly expect any different ? We will make a couple of signings for appearances sake and HOPE to remain in the top division for another season. The days of us even giving the impression that we wish to compete with other clubs are over
-
Your wish will be granted this week.
News on 2 transactions almost certainly at minimum !
The speculation on Tesselar , Hasselbaink , the wrong city player , Harkins was all pointless.
First 3 wide of mark and was certain weeks ago about Harkins.
This week is the beginning of some good news.( all in my opinion of course )
It better f**king be,otherwise i am seriously considering waiting til the week after
-
Not getting a grasp of this are you.
If you cant spot a bit of light hearted banter best you do one
-
And when did they last finish above us?
2014/15 season i believe
-
What abuse? I called the post a lot of shite.
You must live in some kind of parallel universe if you genuinely think we shouldn't take advantage of the loan market.
We scored 3 goals in the league cup final, 2 of them scored by loanees and 1 set up by a loanee. It amazes me that after that people still think that loaning players is a bad idea. What more evidence do you need?
There's plenty of players who have EPL contracts and who are more than good enough for this level but who can't break in at their clubs. We should maximise this market to the fullest of our ability, if we don't, our rivals will.
Yes,we dont want to go down the dundee route and sign players on actual contracts, what folly
-
Exactly.
I prefer to think of myself as an optimistic pragmatist, I'm willing to concede that we are highly unlikely to be pushing for a top three or four spot, and that our only chance of getting into Europe is a Scottish Cup win.
I'm also willing to concede that at this moment a top six spot is possibly out of our reach.
The only absolute that I hold to is that I will absolutely continue to support the team that I love regardless of how we are playing, who is playing for us and how our results pan out.

I agree with your last sentence completely,i just wish people who voice their concerns over signings, team, manager etc were not shouted down on here as not being true supporters, sevco fans and the like. This is supposed to be a forum not a sycophantic love in
St Mirren Squad 2014/2015
in General St. Mirren Discussion
