So if Sunderland had asked you to go and manage them for a huge salary and huge potential of the club with a new owner, you'd have stayed at Greenhill Road as St Mirren manager. I suspect there isn't many like yourself ?

Absolutely spot on. No one would have stayed with the offer put to him - he was right to go at that time and I had zero animosity for the decision made.

Regardless of this debacle he is still a damn good manager

Of course Craigyboy you were touting Robinson for manager of year after his only wins were Dundee, St Johnstone, Cowdenbeath and FC Edinburgh in first 18 games in charge.

Its going to be a long slog as usual. Let's face it really, we wouldn't have it any other way being saints fans!!

As for the crap players I'm not being funny but we aren't going to have a great pick of 'better players but may sometimes find a rare gem amongst the load that released elsewhere. What doesn't help is we don't have players of value that can provide club with the finances to increase budgets.

Tactics and performance, well we still don't have the players capable of the wingback play. Never have never will.

Stick to something sensible like 442.

And keep hands away from sight when in own penalty area😉

Absolutely agree that our inability to harness real talent whilst remaining in the box seat whilst controlling their contract situation is really hurting us and definitely depletes our finances every year- we have big earners on 3 Yr deals yet some of our other talent is walking out the door for buttons or less..

That is something that has happened over a sustained period of time and definitely requires addressing

If there is any basis for the DR report, what will be St Mirren's likely response to Motherwell?

And if (as would be likely) it is 'help yourself' - where should we look for a new manager?

I cannot believe there is any way we would allow SR to chat with Motherwell.... having backed him this summer and also  brought in Lasley etc then it's inconceivable we would do anything to change the current dynamic.... Now, SR haters will say its the perfect opportunity to possibly offload him  but the message it would send out would be highly damaging and therefore as a statement of intent before we have kicked a ball in anger in the SPL then it has to be " business as usual " and we run with SR...

I would much rather we control the narrative and even considering the prospect of allowing a wank Motherwell team access to our Manager would as I say send out the wrong message...

Our inability to score will come back to haunt us again this season. OK Ayunga got 2, but Grieve wasn't effective at all, and Offord was invisible. We need to be beating teams at Cowdenbeath's by a comfortable margin, not 2-0. Even they had 3 shots on target from the parts of the game that I was able to see.

It wasn't only scoring 2 goals which was my biggest concern- its the fact that we created f**k all outside of this...

Not sure where that is coming from, but it isn't true. We lost one home game in all competitions between July and February last season to teams outside the top three, so certainly not 'losing at home most weeks'

On that performance on Saturday, it was down there with the worst i've ever seen from St Mirren. It was an important game and we were at home to a part time club with some of their team on holiday. We can't score and we can't keep a clean sheet.

Simply good enough and things need to change and they need to change quickly.

Fact is things have changed & quickly-  New management team in place and Robbo has certainly got in " his players " - Now , some would say that they need to be allowed a bedding in period ,Others will say this type of result should never happen. Although, if the latter was correct we would never get results ever against the majority of teams in the league who have superior transfer budgets .

The new manager seems to polarise opinion,  this in part explains some of the off the wall stuff being posted after 1 game.

Anyway , time will tell and the transfer window isn't complete . I said end of last season the manager was fully entitled to have at least 1 window where he was backed.

I struggle to believe the football could be less adventurous  and bereft of attacking intent than the ones witnessed by the teams JG put on the park.

Frankly it was turgid at best under JG

If however we don't kick on I will put my hand up and say I was wrong

Reid to hold talks with Celtic tomorrow. We knocked Rangers back with a similar offer which is a strange one. Still only 125k. Really fecked off with the cash coming in.  What message does this send out. We need to get more for our youths

    Absolutely agree

125k is a wank deal- regardless of how you slice & dice it

Overall it's an encouraging performance - there is better movement from the team compared to last year (apart from at throw ins).

Our new signings look good but for me the standout is young Murray Campbell - he does not look like a fifteen year old - he has good composure on the ball and looks as if he has the build and maturity to compete for a first team place this season (if we can manage to hold on to him).

Chat in the English media of interest down South for him

Because the agreement Hibs made with us is that we get a 30% sell on of any transfer fee Hibs get for McGinn.

It turns out Hibs negotiated in turn a 15% sell on for any profit made on McGinn which means they are obliged to give us almost a third of their 15% sell on. Hibs chairman confirmed as much at their AGM 2 seasons ago.

In addition to this, there is 5% set aside in every transfer in world football for a solidarity fee to be paid to clubs that train a player up and the cut increases as the player develops.

In our case, we trained John from 13 (when the fees start to kick in) until 20 and are due 3.5% of any future transfer fee involving him. Hibs trained him from 21-23 and so are due 1.5%.

So for example, based on say, a £30m transfer, the money would be broken down as follows:

    • £30m transfer less £3m Villa paid = £27m profit.
    • Hibs take a 15% cut of that £27m = £4.05m
    • Hibs pass 30% of that to SMFC = £1.21m
    • 5% of the 30m transfer is also set aside = £1.5m
    • Hibs get 1.5% of that 5% = £450k
    • We get 3.5% of the 5% = £1.05m
    • Hibs make £3.3m in sell on and developmental fee
    • St. Mirren make £2.25m in sell on and developmental fee

Wasn't aware of all that - appreciate the very thorough explanation 👍👍

Totally would love Gogic to sign.

Thing could he still go back to Cyprus? Would he go down south? I know he said he would stay in Scotland and has said his time with us has made him enjoy football again. This will be because he is appreciated and getting game time. At Hibs he was getting paid better, but getting little to no playing time. Saying he would be happy to stay in Scotland, what clubs would target him?

Celtic & Rangers = Bigger budget / looking for better quality.

Hearts & Hibs = Could pay more but would be a squad player and not a first select (like his time at Hibs).

Aberdeen = They have both McCrorie & Ferguson that will be ahead of him, so squad player at best?

Dundee Utd & Motherwell = Could pay more if in the market for a player of his style.

Killie = just coming back up but also signed Power. Is power a bit part for them? I ask as their time here and playing together on the pitch I felt Gogic was worse when playing along side Power.

Ross county = maybe pay more and higher in the table.

St Johnstone & Dundee = Surly wouldn't want to join them as worse than us.

Threats to us in Scotland that could sign him and give him play time are
    Dundee United
    Motherwell
    Ross county

I agree that playing regularly and being somewhat the " main man " is absolutely a lure and a reason to stay.

As a footballer the adulation of a support must feel incredible

However, ultimately, he is a family man and financial responsibility comes as the priority.

Other than this 5 month period he has no real affinity to us - so the emotional bond definitely is reduced

I mean look how quickly Goody& Ross fecked off and they both on paper had stronger ties to the club

What I like about Gogic is that he,s  able to play in Central defence . Wouldn't be surprised to see him play next to big Joe next season .

    I would be surprised ..

Not because he isn't capable- because he absolutely is & I would love to get him here permanently

But having just turned 28 he is ideal for many teams and I fear multiple suitors 😪😪

If the management team pulled this transfer off then that Is a major coup

Alnwick off to Cardiff City, it seems. Anyone know where Connor McCarthy is going. I would have liked him to stay.

As others have said, SR has his work cut out to find some decent players. A bit worried about the strikers. We seem stuck with Brophy and Main, neither of whom has been exactly prolific. But if they are in the squad along with Greive and Jamieson, there isn't really room to bring in another one. And we all know that's where our problem lay this season.

    Yes..

Putting the ball in the back of the net was absolutely a concern- this was linked to a complete lack of pace throughout the team & a real dearth of talent with noone having the ability to  provide consistent "  quality balls "

Our strikers to a man were fed scraps at best, and total shite more often than not.

I would reserve judgement on the strikers until we resolve some of the major problems in behind them
