  1. Every away game thread to either one of the two arse cheeks follows a similar pattern on here.

Pre game optimism; this is our chance, they aren’t that good really. Can see us getting something.

Then we get the inevitable defeat. Then the post match mewling about how rubbish we are.

The reality is we’ll almost certainly lose tonight for the simple reason that they’re much better than us. As they should be given the financial disparity.

Am I right I’m saying we haven’t won at Ibrox since 1978? I knew it was ages ago but didn’t realise it was that far back. I knew when we last won at Parkhead, that was such a momentous result that we still sing songs about it to this day.

  2. Twice the ball hit off Obika in the way into the net. History registers two goals for Obika but fans at the game would credit the guys who shot in the first place.
In the first half alone Obika received the ball in the six yard box four times and failed to hit the target once.  A decent striker and we would not have had to wait until the 89th minute to settle the game.
Besides all that McGrath looks a player. Had more shorts on target in 30 mins than anyone else in the team during 90 mins..

My word. You really are criticising Obika for *only* scoring 2 goals today aren’t you? And you seem to be criticising the timing of his goals too. Do goals count more if they’re scored earlier or something?[emoji38]

Some of our fans are truly unbelievable. Thankfully most of us realise how lucky we are to have him at our club and our manager clearly believes in him. He rightly plays 90 minutes every week and will continue to do so.

That’s him on 7 goals already this season. I wonder how many more he will have to score to get the fans off his back? He’s already had the best goal scoring return of any of our strikers in a top flight season since Steven Thompson in 13/14, but that hasn’t been enough.

Of course the reason he gets so many ‘lucky’ goals is because he consistently gets himself in the right positions. As anyone who has played football before will know, that is a skill in itself. I would say I’m surprised at the amount of stick he’s getting but I’m not. Our fans have done this before to other goal scoring strikers and I suspect they will do it again with others we have in the future. Bizarre.
  3. Looked forward today but it was a long watch. To be fair we always struggle against teams that defend in depth. Obika is not a striker. His three misses in the first half were woeful. Junior is hit and miss but seems more effective playing wide, also thought durmus was more effective when he switched to left side. We tried to shift them backwards and forwards and their keeper made some excellent saves second half but we waste a lot of good positions with poor crosses or trying to walk ball into net. Plus side we scored three did not concede and l feel we are a threat against teams that do not sit so deep. Two difficult games now. Finally two centre backs looked excellent obviously bearing in mind quality of opposition.

Win 3 nil and our number 9 scores 2 and you get posts like this.

  4. FT 3-0

Job done, move on. Definitely a bit rusty after the break. Should have still had about 6 or 7 though, the Broxburn keeper definite man of the match.

He had about 5 fantastic saves in the second half alone. Mullen’s goal at the end was a much easier save than several he made.

Broxburn did well enough but as with most part time teams their fitness went in the second half.

Delighted for big Jon Obika to get another brace. Bizarrely he gets a lot of pelters from a section of our support. Doesn’t stop him scoring goals thankfully.

  5. HT 0-0

Broxburn doing well, 11 men behind the ball and defending fine. We’ve had a couple of chances and should have scored, Obika in particular missing a cut back that looked harder to miss..

    Sure the goal will come.

Highlight of the half was the worst pitch invasion I’ve ever seen just before half time. Young lad out the Broxburn crowd jogged up to the edge of the D, got booed, turned round and jogged back off.

  6. This is the kinda game we need to get all the new signings their starting debut in. Something like:

    Hladky

    McCarthy-Broadfoot [emoji767]* - Famewo

    Flynn-MacPherson-Foley-McGrath-Morais

    Obika-Cooke

    Bawsoot.

*The sooner we correctly appoint St Mirren legend Kirk Broadfoot as club captain the better. And less awkward for all concerned.

  7. Priority has to be getting McGinn out. Big (biggest?) earner and can’t get a game when fit. I just fear no other club will touch him given how much he earns and how bad he is.

Djorkaeff will surely be mutually consented and McAllister and Erahon (who’s only 18) hopefully put out on loan. They’re not ready this season but could be good enough in the future.

Durmus will certainly stay, he’s one of our best players and a match winner. As his superb winning goals against Aberdeen and Kilmarnock have shown.

Out of the four strikers the lowest in the pecking order is Mullen. Cooke seems to be third choice behInd Obika and Morais now. Also Andreu and I believe McGrath can play up there if required.

Whether Danny wants to stay and fight for his place or leave will be up to him as much as anyone. As 4th choice strikers go he ain’t bad. If he does leave we will sign a replacement, I suspect he won’t and we won’t be signing any more strikers.

  8. Saints fans have always had a thing about signing ex players.

How about we sign some players who’ve never played for us before and they turn out good.

Anyone coming back is coming back for a reason - IE they haven’t made it elsewhere.

  9. And you're happy?
Oh, I know how your defending the current situation so fiercely, Gus's arse loves a good tongue, keep it up, now's not the time to get excited, when we stay up then we can all relax.

Well it’s our best league position at this stage in the season for 7 years.

    Is it perfect? No.

Is it better than what we are used to? Yes.

What position at this stage would make you happy?

Personally I would be delighted with a 10th place finish this season.
  10. I'd imagine we are quite far down the road in a search for a striker as Goodwin has known since September it's a problem position and wouldn't be surprised if it was an eastern European country player

The only way we sign another striker is if we punt Mullen.

We have 4 strikers on the books, Obika, Morais, Cooke and Mullen. Andreu can also play there.

We only sign one if one of those leave.
  11. We all know what he can do, doesnt matter who hes playing with down south. We all witnessed him score over 30 goals and help us win the championship. Why all the doubters??

When was that? Or are you just making things up, again?

    [emoji28]

I believe the season you are referring to was our league winning year of 17/18. Reilly struggled to get a game after we had signed Mullen and scored 11 league goals.

He did also score 11 cup goals, including those mentioned against LTHV and Hearts under 20’s for a season total of 22 in all competitions.

The reason Mullen kept him out the team is cause Mullen is better than him. That’s the same Danny Mullen who is currently our 4th choice striker.

Ergo, we shouldn’t be touching that dud with a ten foot barge pole.

  12. Says the guy who thought Shankland was a waste of space.
TBH you have a trail of bizarre posts, and that before we go back to Lex. :byebye
    PS Sports Personality.............................woooosh.

Shankland was absolutely hopeless for us, and is still unproven at our level.

What was the whoosh? What do you think our strikers should be doing? We are 10th and our striker is the second best in the bottom 6.

Our main striker us out performing our team, why do you have a problem with that?
  13. Wow, a front runner for next years BBC Sportsperson of the Year.
His compilation of goals will be on You've Been Framed.

What a bizarre post, even by your standards.

Are we judging strikers on whether they are in contention for BBC Sports Personality of the Year, or whether they do a good job for us?
