  1. our day will come..

Of course, in reality, "our" means everyone in Scotland.

The point of politics is to make people's lives better and presumably Yes voters believe that an independent Scotland is best for everyone, including No voters.

But what you really mean by the use of the word "our" is Yes voters alone. It's not really about politics and making people's lives better to you.

It's just a point scoring game where you want to be on the winning side and you hate England.

It's the Braveheart politics of the majority of the Yes vote.

  2. SNP Baaaaad!whistling.gif

I'm sure when the opposition parties get anywhere near being in a position to affect how the country is run, we'll see them implement the promises regarding tax.rolleyes.gif

But back in the real world, where none of them have a hope in hell of getting anywhere near governance, due to gross incompetence of their respective parties, (Greens excluded) they can spout all the shite they like, knowing they will never be made to implement their fantasy manifestos.

    Indeed. Spot on.

The SNP pretend to be left wing but in reality, in office, they are very Conservative (with a capital C).

The reason being that the majority in Scotland are Conservative (with a capital C), although many pretend otherwise.

Likewise, the SNP are able to promote fantasy economic figures about what an independent Scotland would look like knowing that it doesn't matter what will happen in reality cos it will be too late to turn back if they win.

  3. The fact that Vardy is on £90k a week takes the romance out of it.

    I disagree.

The romance is the very fact that Jamie Vardy has gone from playing non league football 4 years ago at the age of 25 to earning £90k per week, winning the league with Leicester and getting capped for England.

The romance is that Mahrez & Kante was playing in the French 2nd tier 2 years ago.

Leicester plucked these guys from obscurity and won the league while up against clubs that can afford to sign the best players in the world.

  4. He was also watching a team he knew we'd be facing in a league match a few weeks later.

It would be madness not to use that opportunity to do a bit of intelligence on them.

Nobody should be in any doubt here. Alex may well have wanted Rangers to win but there is absolutely no doubt he'd have been taking notes as well.

Of course I expect that hadn't occurred to the forum numpties.

^^^^^ utterly obsessed with the Old Firm

    Old Firm apologist

  5. When I read that the Leicester players were all going round to Jamie Vardy's house to watch the game last night I had an image in my head of them all squeezed into his living room, fighting for a seat on the couch.

In reality, looking at the footage this morning, the room they were watching the game in looked bigger than a cinema...

    Its a different world alright!

But in relative terms its still a fairytale.

Their main striker was playing non league football 4 years ago. Mahrez was signed from the French 2nd tier. Kante was unheard of and had 1 season of top flight French football behind him.

The rest of their squad is made up of journeymen and rejects.

Its not like when Blackburn won the league when they signed up a load of the country's best players.

Leicester's tactics have triumphed against better players.

As I keep repeating... their stats for possession, number of passes, passing accuracy, etc are amongst the worst in the league.

The sit back and defend in depth and when they win the ball they get it forward quickly to a striker with a pace. Their most creative player, Mahrez, does his business in the attacking third and because they hit on the break, he does it with extra space.

  6. Least possession, least number of passes, least number of short passes, worst passing accuracy, highest % of long ball passes, highest number of long balls... highest % of passes in the attacking third.

Sit deep, defend, long ball over the top.

    As I said all along....

  7. Giving Rangers a guard of honour is a bit like the England team giving nazi salutes when playing Germany in the 30s.

    It's not on.

    Respectful?

Giving a guard of honour to a club whose success and business model is based on the exploitation of sectarianism, bigotry, hatred and violence is not showing respect.

    Quite the opposite.

This needs to stop and stop now.

All the non Old Firm clubs need to resign and start a new league.

All fans need to put pressure on and boycott all matches until it happens.

Fans who continue to go to games arr effectively supporting sectarianism and hatred.

  8. Thanks Gus!

    Gus???

Mahrez is 25 years old having been born in February 1991.

St. Mirren were last in the First in season 05/06.

Going by Mahrez's description of the cold snow, this "trial" period with St.Mirren would have been before February 2006.

This means Mahrez must have been 14 years old when this trial apparently happened.

He was playing in the reserves at the age of 14 and scored a host of goals? This would have been sensational if this actually happened. This would have been all over this forum if this had happened!

If this was true then word would have spread quickly immediately amongst all the clubs in Scotland, if not the UK!

Mahrez then says that he eventually joined a club called Quimper.

A quick check reveals that he joined this club in 2009... at least 3 years after the latest date that this trial could have happened.

There are quite obviously a number if inaccuracies in this story!

  9. Mixu had a few extra pounds jiggling around also.

I know a certain person whose dad had some medical dealings with the club in years gone by. whistling.gif

He told me that Mixu apparently had the lowest body fat % he had ever come across when doing medicals for new signings.

    Mixu was actually pure muscle.

  10. Got to disagree with Stuart on his point about fans going up the tunnel having a choice.

As Hendo pointed out, they were in a big crowd. A choice wasn't really on the cards.

The behaviour of some football fans over many years however was definitely a factor in the decisions made by the police that day. It was definitely a factor in the fences and pens at Hillsborough.

And the reputation of Liverpool fans in particular was definitely a factor.

  11. That's a very interesting, and eerie, video in the context of this discussion and shows how easy it would have been for everyone to head to that tunnel since the other tunnels are not visible from the gate. It also shows how the design of the stadium contributed to the disaster. Although, it is easy to look at that part of the stadium in hindsight and say it was badly designed but, back then, lots of places were "badly" designed.

I believe that the unlawful killing verdict is correct but for some people to try and lay all the blame at the feet of one person is wrong. As I have said, it was the result of a series of decisions and events. If there are prosecutions resulting from the verdict then they should include (for starters):-

    1. If there was no safety certificate (as some have said), the person(s) at the FA who awarded the tie to Hillsborough.

    2. If there was no safety certificate (as some have said), the board of Sheffield Wednesday for accepting the tie.

    3. If there was no safety certificate (as some have said), the person and/or local council who denied the safety certificate, if they never informed the relevant football/police authorities of the fact after the tie was awarded.

    4. If there was a safety certificate, the person who awarded the certificate (if they awarded it incorrectly, depending on the safety guidelines at the time).

I think a lot of people are looking for a scapegoat here and the obvious one is the match commander.

As I have said, anyone who was involved in the lies and cover up afterwards should be punished but that is a totally separate matter to holding a person or persons responsible for the deaths, and the unlawful killing verdict does not necessarily mean that anyone should be.

For a change, I agree with your entire post.

On top of all that, there is also the issue around we had fences around terracing in those days. Without the fences, the disaster wouldn't have happened.

The fences were there because of the anti social behaviour of a minority of football supporters, generally under the influence of alcohol.

  12. 2 years of evidence and a full jury who made decisions based on that evidence but apparently we should just ignore that and listen to you pair of spangles?

I have had my suspicions in the past about whether the fans contributed to this or not. Todays ruling clears it up once and for all.

Why cant you accept that? its not as though either of you idiots were in attendance.

    Deary me.

I had a feeling that my post would draw out extreme stupidity like this.

  13. You could say the Fans didn't know what was in front of them. You could also say the police should have known what would happen.

Are you the Editor of the sun?

You aren't getting my point. I'm not blaming the fans.

What I'm saying is that there were a whole host of factors involved in the tragedy.

To single out one person is unfair.
