Football club survived well over 120 years without allocated seating or indeed any seating whatsoever.
All that has happened is that an entitlement complex has been allowed to build up amongst season ticket holders which constantly hamstrings the clubs ability to adapt to changing financial circumstances.
Football attendances were declining before stadiums became all seated and reserved seating was introduced.
Attendances have greatly increased since reserved seating was introduced, to a post 1950s high. It has encouraged season ticket sales and allowed football clubs to plan with a bigger - and known - income.

Just to clarify, are you saying he's not getting picked because he's a catholic or that he played for Celtic?
I've no doubt that Lord Pityme will ignore my simple question so can any other good bud ask him it.
Deary me.
Cockles bigotry shining through again.
Shows how this guy's mind works.
Shameful.

Being happy to take the short term cash instead of looking at the bigger picture has ruined Scottish football.
Back in 2012 we had the chance to kill off the Old Firm forever. We had the chance to create a genuinely competitive Scottish football league.
Had the brand new Sevco club been denied admission then Celtic would have withered away. FFS, look what's happened simply without Rangers on the top flight.
The sort of folk who aare happy to hand over the South Stand are the reason we didn't kill off the Old Firm for good.
I have hardly been to a game since 2012 and this is the final straw for me. I wont ever be back to another game.
Scottish football is no more competitive than wrestling. Its fixed.
The happy clappy South Standers who have backed handing the stand to animals can enjoy their day of bigotry and hatred. You are ruining Scottish football.
Hang your heads in shame.

Completely empty seats in the St. Mirren section is what we need.
It could be the start...
If fans of every club boycotted every game against the Old Firm then we could force change.
It wont happen though.
The likes of Top Cat and Pozbaird will always be there pandering to the Old Firm and their bigotry, hatred and violence.
-
Stop going to Ibrox then.
I haven't been to ibrox for years.
They are animals.
-
I also think its very rude of you to condemn opposition fans as "bigoted". They are football fans and follow their teams and should not be overcharged for the privilege.
.
By and large, Rangers fans are not just bigots, they are animals.
They are scum.
Scottish football shouldn't have allowed this new club into the league, never mind us giving them the South Stand.
Someone has got to stand up for what is right.
St. Mirren should come out and say that they will no longer sell tickets to the Old Firm and wont accept tickets for Ibrox and Parkhead.
Decent folk shouldn't need to mix with animals like that.
-
Exactly what I've been saying .
If more people made an effort to come to home games , this wouldn't be happening .
I bet there's been a few on here complaining about this , who don't even turn up on a regular basis .
I'm on here complaining and I don't even turn up at all!
And one of the reasons I have given up is because a new club called The Rangers was allowed to enter Scottish football!
Its all fixed!
-
And while we are on the subject, the notion of 'going easy' on Rangers because folk you know might be made redundant is too ludicrous for words!
-
As a kid, when you watched Scooby Doo, at the end, did you think old man Jenkins from the scary amusement park said 'I would have gotten away with it too, if it weren't for that pesky reserved seating....
Again, can you please, please, in the name of fcuk, when mentioning for the one-millionth time that you 'voted down' Gilmour in the boardroom that night, why do you never ever mention the scenario we were asked to consider at the show of hands? Gilmour asked us if we would still refuse to 'go easy' on Rangers if it meant people working for St Mirren losing their jobs. This is the sole reason I reluctantly (and I suspect others there were in the same boat) changed their stance. We would change our view if it meant people we knew by name being made redundant.
You resolutely fail to mention this any time you paint yourself as some sort of unwavering hammer of the cheating h u n.
Utterly tedious fcuking bore.
And here we go again..
Yet more personal abuse and foul language.
Why isn't this guy banned from the forum?
-
indeed but their is very little profit to the Club in food (fixed price contract, or at least it was) and programmes etc
other than TV revenue ticket sales is where the money is
(by TV revenue i include all the SPFL central contract stuff)
Decent people don't want to mix with Old Firm supporters, Sevco supporters in particular.
Its a horrible experience.
Some things are worth more than money.
-
Sensible decision IMO. Maximise income.
If maximising income is the main indicator of whether the decision is sensible, would the club not be better off handing the entire stadium to Sevco for the game?
Club shop as well?
-
Can't understand why they couldn't afford him, St.mirren hardly sell their assets on for big money.
Last time we had a couple of decent youngsters with decent length on their contracts we sold them for £600k.
-
By the time this game is played, the brand new club formed in 2012 will already have won the league and have been presented with the trophy.
Why would there be huge demand from their supporters?
-
In fairness, the Board has made a money grasping decision that is embarrassing to most Saints fans so the expression of disgust is 100% understandable.
Totally agree.
That's not the point of my post though.
-
Must.
Try.
Harder.
eh?
Pozbaird is a serial abuser on the forum. And he abuses folk for attacking the board when he does it himself.
Plus his attacks are also full of abuse.
He should be banned.
-
This brand new club should never have been admitted to the league in the first place.
The fact that they were and are allowed to carry on as if they are Rangers (the club in liquidation), means Scottish football is no different from wrestling.
Its all fixed and there really is no point anymore.
-
If ever there was a game we should boycott - this is it. Fill the ground with Saints fans? Aye, did ye' Fitzy? Don't go near the fcuking place. Give them the whole ground Gilmour & Co. When a boycott is discussed, anyone suggesting it gets ripped to pieces for 'damaging the club'... The board are doing a damn fine job with the damaging, not us. 'One town one team' - aye, my fcuking arse. I have a car park pass and a seat sandwiched between two stands full of gurning championship winning neanderthals? Fcuk off Gilmour & Co.
As an aside, use a couple of hundred quid from their money to actually get the Hall of Fame panel you received the artwork for back in early January printed and installed. It's only taken over two years and after being asked to do the artwork in December, and doing it for you over the Christmas holidays, you still haven't bothered to print and install a simple printed panel and we're halfway through March. How fcuking hard can it be FFS? Useless fcuking Sevco arse-licking barstewards.
What I find amusing is that you have made a number of abusive posts directed towards lordpityme because of his anti board posts... Yet you regularly do the same yourself.
Indeed, your post above is abusive.

Raith Rovers losing.
Promotion challenge back on!
-
After finishing 4th in the last campaign, I can't understand how Strachan kept his job.
As for the squad he's picked, he can only pick what is available.
And what I available is rank rotten.
Gordon Greer, James Forest, Tony Watt.

I agree, just as important, but not really.
Predictable.
-
Can't really call yourself a supporter if you don't actually support the team.
Being a supporter is about sticking with the team through the good times AND bad.
Totally agree. I no longer call myself a supporter and haven't done for a long time. I'm a lapsed supporter and very much doubt I'll be back on a regular basis.
There are always many, many good reasons why people can't make it to games and that is perfectly understandable but it's poor form for those who choose not to go purely because the team isn't very good at the moment. If that's the mentality then you may as well go and follow Celtic or Rangers as they will probably win most weeks.I can't think of anything less appealing than watching the Old Firm in action! Not sure what the relevance of that point is at all!
I gave up going to watch St. Mirren on a regular basis 6 years ago - when we were in the SPL and winning major trophies. I only attended 3 games the season we won the League Cup (including the final) and none of them were home games!
I enjoy doing other things on a Saturday afternoon.
Its got nothing to do with winning, losing, great performances or poor performances. I don't miss it in the slightest. On the odd occasion that I have attended a game, I have regretted turning up within a couple of minutes of kick off!
I keep tabs on results (even then, I'm sometimes not even aware Saints are playing until a day or two after the game)) and come on this forum but that's about it these days!
-
I wouldn't watch the game tomorrow even if they were playing in my back garden!
-
If it had been a Yes vote then Scotland still wouldn't be independent just now.
Independence day would have been 13 days from now.
So you are suggesting that the current economic circumstances would have been irrelevant to the first budget?
Then again, you are the guy who doesn't know how the public debt is funded!
PS. Dry your tears and reign in your anger. No need to respond as I won't return to the thread for at least a week.

Punt Or Keep?
in General St. Mirren Discussion
Posted
I would have thought this is the sort of topic that folk WOULD discuss on a football forum!
