  1. Although not everyone's first pick (certainly not mine), he was a perfectly logical appointment. He was the fans choice.

For whatever reason it never worked out. He was rightly sacked and we have moved on. That's football, every appointment is a gamble.

Yes, most of what you say is true. However, he wasn't the choice of every fan.

My point is that not everyone agreed with the appointment and were subsequently abused by the usual suspects on this forum... despite the fact they were proved correct.

So you think its okay to abuse fellow supporters for voicing a perfectly reasonable opinion?

No surprise to see that Tony Sporano thinks its okay. He's one of the forum's top abusers.

  2. This is a guy who's making excuses for his abject failure at St Mirren in a desperate attempt to get himself back in the managerial game.

I doubt he's had any offers since the disaster he had with us. The bit about the budget is clearly fiction, we outbid Falkirk for Calum Gallagher last summer.

We improved dramatically under Alex Rae. The problem was him and him alone.

The problem was with the BoD who appointed him in the first place.

And let's not forget that his appointment was widely welcomed on this forum and that anyone who disagreed was subjected to the usual abuse from the usual suspects.

  3. Never seemed to recover from the double whammy of home defeats by Falkirk & Raith back in September.

    ***********

On a slightly different note he seems to be suggesting we had that we had the third lowest budget in the division, bigger than only the P/T outfits - surely that couldn't have been the case.

I'm reading that as 5 clubs beyond St. Mirren, including Sevco and Hibs.

I struggle to believe even that though.

Maybe Falkirk at a push but surely no-one else.

    I don't believe Murray. I think he's at it.

  4. Not really his fault though

    His sides beat Morton twice

Wait until next season pans out to see what kind of job he's doing

    About the Rangers thing

Saying nothing, got a feeling our next signing will be one of their ex players

No problem with us signing ex Rangers.

I do have a problem though with St. Mirren managers supporting Rangers in the Rangers end.

Especially when the manager in question is hopeless!

  5. This is nonsense TBH.

Alex has every right to be annoyed but he also needs to understand that this happens in everyday life. I certainly have aggressively played employers off against each other in the past and would do so again. It's the only way to get to life changing salaries or the best professsional opportunities. The idea that I would give the losing employer a second thought is laughable.

The player and the agent have every right to maximise their income. Alex has every right to minimise his wages bill.

Maybe Alex can learn not to give this type of player more than a couple of days to make his mind up before giving up.

Either way, I don't understand why Alex is burning bridges with agents and complaining in the public eye. Neither of these will do him any good. It might have worked at Rangers or some other teams he's been at where a grievance culture runs deep but it won't work at this club where we EXPECT this sort of thing and we don't generally want to hear unless he makes a signing.

It's not pleasant but IMO he needs to just get on with it and be a bit less vocal about it.

Walter Mitty and the imaginary employers getting played off against each other

    All in oaksoft's head!

  6. So, if Rae is not good enough which available manager would cut it for you bearing in mind the league we are in, the income we generate and budget for players?[/quote

Got to agree with Flanders here , we need to be realistic with our hopes ambitions and player recruitment, 1 thing is for sure , flair and fancy shit won't win this division hard work dedication and will to win will and I'm confident under Rae we will get there ... Give him time and patience!! Very accurate and demanding from his player wish list .

    Realistic?

We've just finished in the bottom half of the second tier... Behind Morton FFS!

    Rangers loving Rae must go!

  7. So, if Rae is not good enough which available manager would cut it for you bearing in mind the league we are in, the income we generate and budget for players?

    That's up to the BoD!

Whoever I think should be manager isn't relevant to my point....

Alex Rae doesn't know what he's doing!

He's a bit like you. Clueless!

  8. It seems season after season we have a list of players wanted that we end up unable to sign no doubt down to our budget. Frustrating.

I'd imagine this is the same problem for virtually club on the planet!

If we have a good manager with good tactics and a decent youth system then signing loads of players wouldn't really matter.

Unfortunately we have none of these!

  9. Affordability and value are completely separate things, I never mentioned affordability at all.

Are crowds dwindling? Compared to when? More season tickets were sold in 15/16 than 14/15, our average crowd now is similar to what it was 20 years ago. In the final two home games of the season - which were both relatively meaningless for us - we got a combined total of over 10,000 fans through the turnstiles. The crowds are fine.

In actual fact, crowds at Scottish football matches these days, in general, are better than at any time since the 1950s.

Better even than the late 1960s and early 1980s when Scottish club football was ranked in the top 3 of the UEFA rankings (or equivalent), when admission prices were much cheaper, when games weren't live on TV, when ground capacities were much larger, when Old Firm travelling supports were far greater and when grounds were largely terracing.

However, as above, I wouldn't a penny to watch it these days.

The fact that Sevco were admitted to the league and Rangers effectively got away with over a decade of the biggest cheat in sporting history without any punishment means that Scottish football is no different from wrestling IMO.

  10. I will still not be shaken from my belief that £20 is far too much to pay for a game of second division football.

Crowds may well not be much difference from a generation ago but pro rata the cost of admission certainly is.

May I just add about those fans who see a season ticket as guaranteeing their chosen seat, whenever I have attended matches over the last couple of seasons, I pick wherever I want to sit. There are so many empty seats that you can sit wherever you like, and change at half time if you so desire.

I only went once last season and, like you say, there were around 5,000 empty seats to choose from.

As for £20 being too much... I wouldn't attend now even if THEY paid me £20 to attend!

£50 and I might consider it. As long as I had the option to leave at half time.

  11. Did anyone watch Falkirk v Killie on Sunday. that we really need this season are a few big players 6 ft or over. ROSS DRAPER is a typical type

Killie ran over the top of the bairns .there is a big difference between even bottom of premier and top of champinship

Top championship teams will alway get some results in cups etc but wont have consistency or strength to compete on a weekly basis

note the difference when Roco came ito the team

I am sure the boss knows this and Itrust him to do the right thing

Other than in central defence and a striker who came off the bench after 60 mins most weeks, Leicester City's side weren't big...

  12. Bring in Sutton on a month by month contract. If I remember rightly he always looked more interested and played better around contract negotiations time.

Sutton was only with us for 2 seasons - on a 2 year contract.

He scored 11 league goals with us in this second season - the majority coming in the first half of the season.

Indeed, he ended up on the subs bench on a number of occasions on the run in towards "contract negotiations time".

  13. The Tories and Labour are defined by their hatred of the SNP rather than their own policies.

The SNP are defined by their hatred of the English rather than their own policies.

The SNP are a collection of people from the right, from the centre, from the left.

Their "policies" at the moment are all geared towards keeping the middle classes on board.

Their "policies" at the moment are based on using money that should be used in the NHS to give away middle class bribes such as council tax freezes, free prescription charges, no tuition fees, abolishing bridge folks, etc.

All are policies that are so right wing that not even the Tories in England would implement them.

The SNP are nothing more than the Scottish equivalent of UKIP. The Scottish equivalent of a Donald Trump Republican party.

    You fat lecturer!

  14. The EU referendum campaign in Scotland is amusing.

The yesers for Scottish indepedence now using the very same arguments to remain that they campaigned against previously.

Its highlighted that the SNP and yes campaign = UKIP, the Tory right and the leave campaign.

    Alex Salmond = Boris Johnson.

Its highlighted how ridiculous both positions are!

  15. They weren't oppressed because they were white Scots and as such you can't compare that with what has happened to blacks, the Chinese etc.

THAT is why some jokes are better left alone.

In the context of the entire discussion that was obvious.

For a change you are absolutely correct in this instance.

The fat lecturer talking sense at last!

  16. Flareybob has to be a nosferatu or LPM alias.

I dont know anyone else on here obsessed with cracking the same joke repeatedly.

Ironic when you consider how many times you keep repeating this and how obsessed with me you are.

Then again, considering that you spent most of Xmas day posting on this forum, cos you are a lonely, fat lecturer, I'm not surprised.
