    Elvis is totally correct.

It was a laughable performance by our Team. No point getting upset over and over again and ruin Saturday night.

Usual suspects abusing and bullying their way through this Thread on an easy target.

Supporters can react to a result any way they want without abusers like DQ and others giving them a hard time.

Let's hope for massive improvement against Livy next week.

Livvy game will be very interesting. They are a better side than last season and I don't think we are.

  2. I think there is quite a serious issue here that the club need to take heed of but won't until something serious happens.

The issue here is not during the actual match its pre match and at half time when shots are raining on goal in front of the kids stand.

The ball is being hammered and many times is flying into the crowd who are unsuspecting and not aware of it as it pre match and many are talking to friends etc and distracted.

I saw a guy at the Dundee game get a belt from a ball that Jeff King had hit. He was struggling for a good 15 mins after about 20 yards along from him was wee boy on his dads shoulders whilst his dad talked to a bunch mates. If that ball had hit that we boy on the face he was off and falling from quite a height onto concrete.

Its the same every home game with balls flying in toward young kids.

So i personally think something needs to be done about it. At Parkhead 4 poles come up with a net and stop it. Many continental teams do the same.

Its not a massive outlay and may save serious injury or worse a life !

But hey as I say nowt will be done until it happens !

In the winter you can get wet even sitting near the back of the stands. This would add more comfort to the fan experience. The roofs are far too short.

Yes and how about a net behind both goals at pre match and half time whilst players pelt shots at goal and miss going  straight into the unsuspecting crowd. Not long before someone is seriously injured or worse. Saw a guy get whacked on the head last week and its just a matter of time before a child behind the goal is serously injured. They do it at Parkhead and other clubs. No reason why money shouldn't be spent on this.

So 4 wins from 37 and yet Lennon is an excellent manager.

But Finishing above Rangers and winning the Scottish Cup is woeful from Stubbs.

Come on, you have to see how ridiculous you are being.

You obviously have a high regard for Stubbs but I'll stick with my view that Alan Stubbs couldn't lace Neil Lennon's boots.

4 wins out of 37 and left with them 11 points adrift.  Aye right.  I am aware of the financial problems he had to bear but fantastic job?

He did an excellant job initially getting them close to play off from near relegation. Next season was a shambles due to all kinds of financial mismanagement at the club. Neil Lennon is a damn good football manager and coach.

  6. 3 hours ago, nedflanders123 said:

Missed my point entirely. A lot of managers fail at one club but succeed at others. Tommy Craig was a shambolic decision by the old board.  Lennon flopped at Bolton but has succeeded at Hibs (forget Celtic as a blind cat could succeed with the purse they had), McInnes bombed at Bristol City but has succeeded at Sheep.  There is no guarantee that any manager selection will succeed - particularly at a provincial club such as ours with budget constraints and low wages.  Time will tell if AS is a good manager or not and let's not forget Jackson and Rice's role in supporting him. Finally, I also think some of the criticism arising from Spartans and QP games should be levied at the players who irrespective of match fitness should be good enough to win those games.

No he didnt, he initially did a fantastic job at Bolton then club folded financially. Players not getting paid etc. Lennon is a quality coach who could easily manage at top level Championship. I remember Brendan Rodgers mentioning how he thought Lennon was a good fit for Everton when Moyes left !

Lennon will manage again at top level after Hibs if his mental health is not an issue.

That was nowhere near the worst Rangers side in history and anyway the worst Rangers sides are usually more than good enough to whip the arses off any other team except Celtic. It comes with having a budget more than 10 times their nearest rivals and being able to buy better players as a result.

How many times have Hibs EVER finished higher than Rangers?

You are downplaying a magnificent achievement because you are running a personal agenda.

WTF are you on, I have no personal agenda against Alan Stubbs whatsoever. I want him to prove me 100% wrong and very much hope he does. So far he hasn't and I don't think he will. More than willing to give him time and he very much needs it. I realise the task of taking over from Ross and the reshaping of the team. I just don't think he is the man to do it.

Woeful?? in they 2 years at no point were they favourites to win the championship with rangers and hearts in the league that’s hard enough as it is without them. In the 2nd year they should of went up through the play offs but late goals in the 2 games for Falkirk in the play off killed it for them.

He has a better win ratio at hibs than Lennon does.

I’m pretty sure the board was just as delighted as the fans for winning their 1st Scottish cup in 114 years with a championship team!

Alan Stubbs or Robbie Nielson couldn't lace Neil Lennon's boots as a manger. Lennon would have had Hibs up the first season !

  9. 3 minutes ago, oaksoft said:

His performance at Hibs clearly was not woeful FFS. He finished above Rangers in one of those seasons.

By all means criticise where justified but this is sounding like a personal vendetta.

The worst Rangers side in history in complete meltdown under McCoist, hardly what you would call Rangers !. He 100% should have had Hibs promoted that season. Neil Lennon would have all day long

Its not a personal vendetta at all. I actually like Alan Stubbs as a person and also think he is an excellant coach but he is not a manager and I think that will play out.

The difference with JR is that he had to come in mid-season, try to figure out what was best without being able to make signings. When the opportunity came in January he built a good squad and we all the know rest. Stubbs came in, has had the transfer window to build the team he wants, and offload the players he isn't keen on. I would suggest JR was in a more difficult position because he couldn't chop and change much for a couple of months. Hopefully Stubbs will get his plans in place before the window shuts and we start seeing some decent results.

One of the things that bothered me was the inability to get Hibs promoted in two attempts. Robbie Neilson did it first time with Hearts, easily finishing above both Rangers and Hibs and with a fairly young squad too. Neilson then continued the good work in the SPL. Stubbs will forever be a Hibs legend for ending the Scottish Cup drought, but it shouldn't have taken 3 years for them to gain promotion. Both struggled in England, although I would say Rotherham was always going to be a very tough task and not many managers would have kept them up.

Totally agree on the Hibs point. His league performance was woeful.

On Rotherham you have to ask why he took it ?. My take on it is that the Hibs board were by far and away more interested in getting back to Premiership than winning any cup. Fans impressed by cup run but board focused on league. With United going down I reckon he cut and ran before a sacking in new season. I always felt he would move that close season to whatever came along. Why would anyone move from Hibs to Rotherham. Rotherham were way above their level in Championship.

Some amount a nonsense being talked on here from the usual suspects. Given the candidates, Stubbs was the best possible appointment for St Mirren.

    Look at his CV:

Captain of Bolton at 22, England B international, Celtic's record signing, numerous trophies, Champions League experience, played 5 seasons in the English Premiership. Worked for and learned from Bruce Rioch, Tommy Burns, Wim Jansen, Martin O'Neill, Walter Smith, David Moyes and Mick McCarthy, to name a few. He started on the road to management because he was handpicked, at the age of 36, by David Moyes to coach their young players.  Don't forget either that Stubbs was diagnosed with cancer twice; the second time he thought it was gone then they found a tumour at the bottom of his spine during a routine scan. Chemotherapy and an operation followed. His kids were 2 and 4 at the time. He came back from that to play nearly 200 games for Everton. This is a strong and determined character. As for getting the sack from Rotherham, Derek McInnes and Steve Clarke suffered similar fates and are doing okay now...

Who really thinks, if they were a member of our board, that a teacher from Northern Ireland, Jim McIntyre or Gary Caldwell would be better options?

What Stubbs has done so far with us..... obviously his first problem is that he's not Jack Ross and there's nothing he can do about that. The "marquee signings" chat was a mistake. No doubt. I think he was on a wee bit of a high being back in football and after a decent performance against Killie. What's happened with G. Mac and Eck, it doesn't look great from the outside but nobody knows what's happened there (though waiting for billyg to make something up again) Regarding Eck, Stubbs signed him for Hibs so he knew what he was getting with that player. Given Eckersley's age and injury history I think it's safe to say Coulson is a better option. As for signings, they will come.

Call me mad, and I know that a whole 13 days have now passed since his first game in charge, but I remain optimistic we'll be a success under Stubbsy.

I would argue all day long that McIntyre is a better manager than Stubbs and his record proves it. Stubbs is a bum appointment and we are paying a heavy price already.

Stubbs is a coach not a manager.

  12. 9 minutes ago, LargsBud said:

I really hope there is a clause in his contract where we can get rid of him if we are bottom at a certian time.

Paying off a 3 year contract is going to be a financial disaster.

Or maybe he could just have a bit of personal integrity and walk. Multi millionaire from playing career so its hardly a big deal

  13. 19 minutes ago, DougJamie said:

He flopped, despite having a far bigger budget than the rest of the bottom 5/6. We let go our LC manager who also did well in League. I would take Danny over Jim anyday.

Give Stubbs a chance. He had great reviews from Everton, did very well for Hibs, and ok, not so good at rotherham. But I don't think it was his fault they imploded. more to do with their cost cutting BOD

Stubbs is a coach not a manager that's why he got great reviews at Everton with academy. He didn't do well for Hibs, no promotion in 2 seasons or play off final in Championship. Utter shambles at Rotherham. All excuses at Rotherham. Following very similar pattern at St Mirren.

I'd come back on the McIntrye comments also but that's a debate that's gone.

I think the board have shown under Jack Ross' reign they were quite happy to back the manager in the transfer market - indiscriminately I would say.

Jack Ross' signings over 18 months:

    1. Craig Storrie

    2. Rory Loy

    3. Pal Fjelde

    4. Josh Todd

    5. Stellious

    6. Cammy Smith

    7. Stephen McGinn

    8. Adam Eckersley

    9. Harry Davis

    10. Billy O'Brien

    11. Ross Stewart (goalkeeper)

    12. Jordan Kilpatrick

    13. Ross Stewart (striker)

    14.  Craig Samson

    15. Gavin Reilly

    16. Dale Hilson

    17. Ian McShane

    18. Darryl Duffy

    19. Liam Smith

    20. Jamie McCart

    21. Danny Mullen

    22. Gregor Buchanan

    23. Ryan Flynn

    24.  Mark Hill

    25. Myles Hippolyte

    26. Massimo Donati

    27. Paul McGinn

    28. Jim Kellerman

(I've not included Jack handing out contract extensions to Josh Todd, Cammy Smith, Gary Irvine, Gary Mac (x2), Jack Baird (x2), Kyle Magennis or giving youth team players like Nathan Flannagan a first team contract)

Successful Signings: Cammy Smith, Stephen McGinn, Harry Davis, Adam Eckersley, Ryan Flynn, Gavin Reilly,  Craig Samson, Liam Smith

Guys Who Did A Job Without Being Great in the long term: Stellious, Billy The Fish, Rory Loy, Danny Mullen, Ian McShane

Signings Which Didn't Work Out: Craig Storrie ('the one who will save our season' trust me copyright IOBS), Pal Fjelde, Josh Todd, Ross Stewart, Ross Stewart, Dale Hilson, Darryl Duffy, Jamie McCart, Gregor Buchanan, Mark Hill, Myles Hippolyte, Massimo Donati

Signings Which Might Work Out (Maybe):  Jordan Kirkpatrick, Paul McGinn, Jim Kellerman.

My understanding is the money from the sale of Kyle McAllister, Stevie Mallan and Lewis Morgan had all been spent on backing Jack Ross in the transfer market in his first 3 transfer windows, and my opinion is that Jack Ross's reputation in transfer windows for us rest entirely on how good Stephen McGinn, Cammy Smith and Harry Davis have been for us.

I doubt very much that having reached the premier league and doubled season ticket sales that Tony Fitzpatrick and Gordon Scott have lost any enthusiasm for helping the manager sign players.

Did Jim McIntyre not get canned on this forum for too many players at Ross County ??.

Utterly fantastic job in his first season at RC, went onto win League Cup. Managed successfully for 3 season in Premiership. Disgracefully sacked in his fourth and club then relegated.

Bet we wish we could rerun the interviews again !

     @gg_rufc

stmirren Whats your early thoughts on Stubbs? Sounds like he's already started doing to you what he did to #rufc. Totally ripped our squad apart, let a few key players go and replaced them with absolute shite. Has no management skills at all and shows no respect to the fans.

Why did our board not take notice !. It was obvious to anyone who did a bit of digging !

  16. 9 minutes ago, Drew said:

I still reckon Hibs would accept £2.5M, and can see Celtic offering this plus Allan and/or Christie.

For all we've been talking about how we would benefit from a deal going through, hasn't the Chairman already said that the money we receive would be used for club capital infrastructure as opposed to given to the manager for squad investment?

Wouldn't you if you saw the other investments ?

It's not all doom and gloom.  Dundee got beat today by Dunfermline.

The delay in bringing in players may be due to the McGinn delay.  I think we'll do alright and if we don't, I'd like to think there will be a clause in AS's contract saying if we're bottom of the league at Christmas then off you go and certainly, if we got relegated.  But let's not talk about that!!  AS has the awareness of what is required.  The trialists of Saturday are off - no messin'.  We'll be cheering on the 4th.

So your confident that Stubbs will use the money wisely. Not much evidence on his recruitment so far. Maybe he can spend a few more 75k's on National League North & South quality.

  18. 1 hour ago, DLBud said:

I’m not sure what your point is here?

The squad he inherited was light already due to some loanees returning to parent clubs. He’s let another few go and replaced them with what, on the face of it, is poorer quality.

The current team is arguably 4 or 5 starters short of being competitive in the league yet we are pissing about with traillists that are f**king rotten and have zero pedigree. Why?

Stubbshas been f**king around for the best part of 18 months watching football up and down he country and when he finally gets a chance of redemption this is what he brings in to give him a chance of success? He promised signings that would excite us. Im not excited by the sight of my team being ripped apart and filled up with players who will travel anywhere to get a chance because they are pish and certainly not at the standard required to keep us in he Premiership.

He was pretty clear after the game that they wouldn’t be getting another chance. My point is that he surely didn’t need to watch them play to know this. If he did then I’m really concerned as my 11 year old daughter asked 5 minutes in why the guy that looked like Cavani was so fat and slow. “Why not just play Danny up front” she continued.

Out of the mouths of babes.........

Was going to post similar. Couldn't agree more. It kinda says it all for me.

  19. 48 minutes ago, buddiecat said:

Spot on, He did get out of his seat twice though, half time and full time. He had a great team at Hibs and bombed at Rotherham, looks like he'll bommb here too. I'm assuming he never saw those triallists in training, but if he did it's going to be a nightmare season if that's the standard we're considering. 2 strikers required.

Never even made the Championship play off final ?. He's junk.

  20. 24 minutes ago, BanburyBud said:

For me, and only me and my opinion, this game should never have taken place. This was an opportunity for a man to strut his ego and say GIRUY St Mirren as I can make so much more now that I got you promoted and a little bit excited.
I wasn’t there today but I travelled up to the championship winning day to hear a man on the microphone speak to an adoring and passionate support saying ‘we are on our way’....... the only person on their way was him and the sheep that followed.
He was a lucky man to have the game changing talent of Lewis Morgan who did much to bring that passion and excitement back to St Mirren. But that lad didn’t profess to be ‘on our way’. He gave his all and appreciated what St Mirren did for him as much as he did for them.
We now have a new manager who now has to take the mantle on of taking this side into the top division of Scottish football but with the added task of maintaining a feel good factor that everyone bought into with the now departed egotistical manager. A manager who, in my view, brought nothing more than Tom Hendrie, Gus MacPherson or Danny Lennon brought to our club.
I’m no advocate of Stubbs but we need to understand that the previous manager used us and the new one has to pick up the pieces. I’m not sure he can but I hope he does.
This game today has done nothing, absolutely nothing for St Mirren Football Club.

I think you meant post instead of game ?
