  1. First time I've listened to the Live Commentary on St Mirren Radio. It's decent, but still a bit 'wet behind the ears'.

Glad you enjoyed the coverage. I've done most of the commentary this season thus far, was on the reporters mic yesterday - you'll hear a bit more of a mix in the second half of the season in terms of voices/people involved (including the guys who did the main comms yesterday) due to the University of the West of Scotland remit etc. Great learning experience for all. Easter Road does have a good view from up in the gods!

Less said the better about me panting when I got back up to the commbox to chip in the post-match after being pitchside with Alex Rae and running up the never ending stairs! lol.gif

  2. I cover East Kilbride too alongside St Mirren (EKFC TV highlights on Youtube are top notch can I add! biggrin.png ) - and Jack has been superb. He is at nearly 30 goals this season in all competitions.

Another former St Mirren man in Anton Brady is a live wire and played well last night too.

  3. Thank you for answering me, the coverage was good so give yourself a pat on the back.

I was convinced the boy 'Stevie' was a former player such was his apparent knowledge of the game, however in comparison to Ian Murray what does he know eh?

Anyway well done again, hope you are having some fun doing it.

Cheers! At least the late goal from Mallan made the four hour round media team drive a bit better!

We are at Ibrox Saturday lunchtime so those that can't go can sync up our audio with Alba pictures. (If you have Sky just pause the tv for 15-20 secs to sync us up!)

  4. I listened to the Raith Rovers Vs Paisley Buddies game on St Mirren radio last night (the first time I have ever utilised this delightful service). The commentator was pretty good and he was accompanied by a chap called "Stevie". Who is Stevie?

He sounded like a former player but I could not work out who.

So Stevie, Stevie who art thou Stevie?

Thanks for tuning in and 'enjoying' the coverage. We were the only dedicated radio commentary there and it appeared we had plenty tuning in.

Stephen alongside me in the commentary box last night is one of UWS Sports Journalists (with the partnership that is set up between the Uni & SM) who has done some other radio co-comms and presenting duties on the St Mirren pre/post match show at home games.

  5. Hi all,

We of course deliver the story of the game and do the radio show pre/post game from a St Mirren narrative story/angle but are not blinding over obvious decisions for/against the opponent. Sunday for example focused on the narrative of where St Mirren are in the table with a nod to what Rangers where playing for too at the top. I think for ex-pats watching our TV coverage also good to give as wide a flavour of the league/info as possible as they probably don't see too much else Scottish football if they are abroad.

General rule of thumb i've had with the co-comms on home games is for me to be 50/50 (or 51/49 to the Saints) and just call the game. Whether it's hammering Dunfermline or the late goals conceded v Falkirk or Raith. The co-comms have balanced honest opinon but they have the licence to lean far more of course in favour of the saints using we, us etc or in Naismith's case rant (which by far is the highlight of the season of course - he was brilliant). However it's not over the top as mentioned in previous pages that seems to be favourable. We've been blessed by decent co-comms all season who have been a bit biased but not over the top.

You can have your opinons on Rangers of course - obviously I can't/won't go into that - I'm there to call the game whatever the opponents nicknames are or not.

I hope you continue to enjoy the season on TV and Radio. Full radio commentary all being well at Falkirk on Saturday.

  6. Really disappointed with some of the commentary today. At points I thought I had paid for Sevco TV as Callum waxed lyrically about "The Gers".

    Poor show!

Sorry you felt like that but I gave plenty of St Mirren praise equally. Including in the post match show. I'm pretty open to both sides praise/negativity. Really enjoyed what I seen today from the Saints.

  7. Cheers for replying... Easter Road was right on the money, and it was noticeable that something wasn't right today!

No Problem. As I say - the away games are purely for radio - so I do radio commentary. Home games - it's for TV viewers outside UK/Ire - so TV style comms.

I will say it was good in the commbox (and for you folks) to commentate on a home win today.

  8. Hi,

At the moment the St Mirren Radio commentary for home games is just a feed from the TV. My commentary is catered to that. Unfortunately not really another option for us at the moment and a radio commentary style for TV couldn't work. It's just to give those at home at least a flavour of our coverage.

Any regular listeners will note that my commentaries at Hibs, QOS etc are fully in 'radio mode' - as we only do radio coverage.

So just clarifying I wasn't having an off day, was just the TV feed! ;-) - Thought I'd clear it up for you all! lol.gif
