Moved back to the area after 8 years away. Would take a game when free especially on a Monday.
-
Storie was excellent. Kept things simple and was always ready to drop into pockets when we lost the ball.
Mallan, Morgan and the new keeper also impressed.
Great win made sweeter by free tickets in my adopted home town.
Pass me the Peroni. -
Love this goalie

Lived in Houston until I was 20. Attendance been limited the last 6 years whilst living in Dundee. Unlikely to ever move back to the west coast and going to the game every week is something I'll forever miss. Still make 3 or 4 games a season although mostly away matches around Fife it seems.
Can't imagine any future children not being St Mirren fans. -
I would ditch Irvine too. Positional sense is woeful and he doesn't contribute anything going forward either.

Yesterday was my first game in a while. Problems were obvious within the first ten minutes. Zero leaders from goalkeeper to midfield. Hardly heard a peep. When things are down on a football pitch you need someone to make that huge tackle or massive header to really fire a team up. None of that in our team. Felt sorry for Sutton and then later clarkston who were the only two with a bit of fight.
Long ball tactics to Shankland don't work. The young lad can't jump or run despite having a good finish on him. Even Gallacher aimed his kicks at him rather than Sutton which is just plain strange.
Gary Irvine played right centre back most of the game. Walsh or Morgan ended up deeper than our defence on his side and the Hibs winger had a field day. Our full backs never went over the half way line (attacking is Naismiths strength) and Grant Holts movement throughout was more intelligent than our whole team put together.
The midfield aside from a ten minute spell from Mallan really just lack football brains. They chased down in ones rather than packs. Hibs followed their passes played simple one twos and played it around us. Our lads just stood and watched as the receiver of their 10yard pass had no options and had to play it back to a hopeless Webster or Baird.
Holding midfielder needed to allow Naismith and a new left back to get into the game and create chance for a forward line that have ability with regards to goal scoring.
Hoping that a fit Gary McKenzie can be the answer to the leadership at the back or we are fighting relegation on that display -

My Dundee supporting pal called this in December. Good signing
-
Alex Rae showing how much he cares there. Play offs next season with more youth players shining is my prediction.
Farewell to two St. Mirren legends and to a miserable season. -
Offside at the winner
-
Goody <3 Getting those tackles perfect. Shut up Craigen you wank he's not after a yellow.
-
Naismith looks absolutely gubbed here.

Deserved after a good bit of pressure. They look rank when you put pressure on their defence. Games like this you can really see why Clarkston has played at a higher level. With an extra yard of pace he would be way too good for this league.

Harkins, Lappin and Samson would all be great signings...

Allan Russell teaching Premier League forwards. Seen it all now.

Actually thought we were far superior to Rovers today and my future father in law who is a Raith fan agreed.
The problem was the back line. Four long balls... drop back a yard and header it away... Amazed we didn't learn from our mistakes. Baird, Webster and Langfield were hopeless and never uttered a word to each other.
Shankland was also poor. Doesn't seem interested in my opinion. Lazy individual who didn't win a header all day. Stick a finisher with a bit of movement in that team and we would of won regardless of the poor defence today.
Goodwin should be in the team and Thommo should have been flung on for shankland earlier.
Gow, Agnew and Mallan all tried, all got on the ball and all tried to make something happen. I've seen a lot worse in a St Mirren top and those three don't deserve stick today.

Agreed. He talks a good game and comes across well. I find the boots thing funny personally. I never had an issue with coloured boots but I hated kids wearing blades, particularly on a plastic pitch. In the close up of the boots on the rack there's blades shown. I know that's probably first team players boots used on grass and it's probably just an edit thing but that jarred with me.
Also Longwell talks about the pressing game and about playing the ball out from the back. Fair enough, I prefer that style of play too - but under Ian Murray the team were playing a completely different style with the sitting deep and the Langfield punt so there's a clear disconnect there.
Longwell also confirms what other pro youth coaches have told me. He's got one or two "talents" in each age group. Nothing wrong with that at all. If the Academy produces two high quality sellable talents per year that would be extremely successful, but what about all the other lads who are just making up the numbers? Isn't there a better way to develop Scottish kids in football? If nothing else is it right that pro youth football grasp such of the games resources when it clearly isn't that efficient in terms of success?
A good interview though none the less. Now if only the club structure would allow for a scout to be hired to recruit kids into the club without the first team coach having to weigh up long term advantage against having an extra player in his squad.
The style of play thing was what got me as well. Langfields aimless kicks to short forwards have been nothing short of laughable. He did mention Danny Lennon and how it was more his style so clearly Murray never quite got round to imprinting his philosophy at this level.
As for the kids that miss out, where do you want them to go? How do the more exceptional talents show their game without having teammates and opposition to outclass for lack of a better word.
-
I honestly believe that Longwell comes across fantastic in the interview. Very passionate about the job and said all the right things. Unlike some of our previous managers he actually sounds like he believes in what he is saying.

It's not all rosey Ally McCoist has just been spotted in the Dumbarton reception.
-
Ian Murray just resigned directly after the match .

Mallan has had a stinker today.
Incorrect. Mallan has the unfortunate problem of being better than every one of his team mates. None of the other St. Mirren players are on his wavelength and he is clearly becoming frustrated by this. He has shown so much more bite in the tackle than the rest of the midfield despite being the apparent flair player also.
Like McLean he will go on to much better for things (likely for peanuts).

Ah ffs, radio is about 45 secs in front of alba
BBC Sport Website Radio is behind Alba for me. Simply paused Alba until the Radio caught up. Gotta love modern technology

Looks like Goodwin has been instructed to help out Conlan as much as possible. Rushed out to the left as soon as we lost the ball there.

Paul McMullan is going to cost us a lot of goals if he is playing wide of the midfield. Not one defensive thought has went through his head in any game I've seen him so far

Nazon is far superior to Jackson. Movement off the ball is good and he can actually control a football. Would like to see him playing off Cooke.
1-0 down with 15mins left and we still have 5 at the back. Grim
