Really? We had Dayton on loan last season, who did ok, plus Sonupe who barely played. Neither could be accused of "getting us into the mess" we are in. Previously we had Drury who scored 3 goals in 12 games, hardly harming the team with that return.
Previously we had Newton, Dummet and Goncalves who helped win us a cup, and before that we had Carey and McGowan who did well enough on loan to get permanent transfers.
In short, I don't really see your point.
At a time when many of the players we sign are on one year contracts, what would be the problem in having a player from a bigger club on loan for a season? Especially as there would be a chance of getting them back on loan again if they do well, and also the chance of signing them permanently if it suits all parties.
But we also started the season with Plummer as our 1st choice central defender. A guy I think was never interested in being here. A real risk with loan players and something that set us off on the wrong foot.
True, the loanees of 2012/13 were brilliant, but over the last 2 seasons they've been very poor overall.

Yeah, think so. Attacking or central midfielder.
-
Reilly is out of contract. You could add Cuddihy, central midfield I think.

"He has helped me and the team" said the teenager.
Whit? In what way has he helped the team?!?! Sounds like purely selfish reasoning - 'keep him as manager please as he seems to rate me'.
I'll not even touch on the subject of how crap Mallan has been in all bar a couple of games. -
Foul by Naismith, quite clearly.
Not sure if it's a foul by Naismith, but it's certainly not a penalty.
He shoulders the guy which makes him fall and clatter into his legs. You can hardly penalise the Thistle player for falling down after someone clatters him, what exactly was he supposed to do instead. !!

I've known her since the 80s, lovely person and a die hard Saints fan. Anyone able to close this pish?

Dibble best for me. Can you name 2 other Saints who were polis?

Plays every week for Sheffield Utd. Helped his team to wins over Southampton, QPR and West Ham this season.
I suspect we didn't get the best out of him!

Here is list of our signings and loans since March 13, when we won the cup. A few get pass marks but generally makes depressing reading. We all accept that we must live within our means. But a small fortune must have been spent on wages for this lot. Surely the little wage budget we have could have been spent on better than this?
Bahoken Stephane
Caldwell Ross
Campbell Adam

That must be the most bizarre sub in a long time. Was Gow just signed to give an old pal some help with his mortgage?

Well I'm not yet 30 and I've seen us relegate ed from the top flight 3 times already. I'm not saying we are the most relegated club in Scotland or anything.
I'm just saying we are the kind of club where relegation and promotion will happen on a relatively regular basis. We're certainly not alone in that regard, indeed most teams in Scotland fall under that bracket.
Presuming we go down, we'll have been relegated 6 times in our history. I think there have been about 86 seasons where we could have been relegated.
Dunfermline, just as a comparison, have been relegated 11 times.
-
I'd also exempt both woods Calder & Mar who although not good enough always seemed to be putting in the effort - in a way it's especially galling to have lost them as I feel they could have done a job for us a division down!
Marwood can't get a game for Forest Green in the Conference. He's scored 1 goal for them.
Caldwell can't get a game for Morton. The same Morton that were recently beaten at home by Brechin and Forfar,
They are both utter garbage. They are great examples of the terrible decline in the quality of our squad since we won the League Cup.
-
I also don't buy this "bleed the young players in now" nonsense. Take a look at it. The youngsters inthe squad right now just aren't very good. Naismisth and McGinn (who is away in the summer anyway) aside none of them are particularly special. For all the talk of the academy, how much have we actually made from these 'wonderful talents'?
Agreed. Aside from a couple of good bits of play from Mallan, I've seen nothing of any merit from the collection of midgets we seem to have collected.
What exactly did McLear do to warrant such a long contract? Looks a very basic player to me.
As for the rest, Morgan, Brown, etc. I presume this 'cream' of our youth development will be let go in the summer, as usual.
-
Random wee boy of the week now on. Next week it's Baird's turn.
-
Kelly surpassing even his esteemed level of guffness. Just as well we signed him up on a long term deal!
-
I thought Goodwin signed a 2 year deal as a player coach, will not having the coaching role effect the length of the contract?
Sorry, you're right. He has another season to go.
-
Cheesy is not under contract after this summer. Neither is Goodwin.
The option with Ball is our option. So he will be gone as well.
-
Good to see us fixing up guys on longer contract...... but I have to agree with the other comments that he's looked very ordinary when playing for the 1st team.
-
You sound like an OF supporter. Just because Saints are shite doesn't mean everything in Scottish football is shite too.
Ironic for me..... the only folk I know that think Scottish football is decent are Old Firm fans.
-
Or you could just sit there like a normal human being and say nothing.
Is that a stretch for you?
Yeah, all the best leagues in the world have stadiums (half) full of people sitting in total silence.
-
Yes its a loss. But he is a well known injury prone player. Stupid signing.
-
I've heard worse ideas! Which just illustrates how badly Teale is doing.
-
Odds on ffs
not at -2 goals it wasn't! I only took -1 myself.
-
So we play Mclear and Mallan in central midfield regardless of how bad that combo was last week.
Sadlier still doesn't make the bench. Great stuff!!

Not really. He failed to push himself into a desperately bad St Mirren team until the point at which we were doomed anyway.
