  1. In my personal opinion, stick to Linksys.

I've had Netgear, Billion and US Robotics wireless kit over the past 2 years and now Linksys. The new boxes give much better range, better speed, easy security for the novice and an integrated firewall.

You'll need a wireless card on your laptop too :P

Speed only really matters if you are transferring streaming content around your house from computer to computer. Lets face it - a 54Mb wireless connection even when degraded through walls or whatever - is going to be easy enough to handle a 10Mb tops internet feed.

Linksys = Cisco = Top kit

The Linksys box also does Mac spoofing (in fairness most of them do now) which is essential for you NTL cable dudes as NTL tie down their cable modems to only be available to the MAC address of the computer that initially installed the service.

Thus you need to spoof that computers MAC to the new wireless router and it "pretends" to be that machine that is allowed to connect to t'internet.

    Here to help B)

Cheers Divmeister. That helps a lot. :)

Thanks for the heads up about this one bud - much appreciated. Can I just ask what make it is?

Not sure if I'll take you up on it but it sounds alright. We might be wanting one that does the fast 120Mbps (?) rate is all.

Thanks again though and I'll bear it in mind if we don't go for the big fast ones. :)

Btw - cheers for the PM as well. :)

  3. We're looking to set up a wireless broadband connection to a second comp (laptop) here in the near future. I'm wanting my connection hard wired in though - figure I might as well try to keep it simple as the cable modem's here anyway, and for better security. Figure the less changes we have to make, the less can go wrong, or that's the theory anyway.

The question is, exactly what do we need and who makes the best stuff for it? Netgear? Belkin? Someone else? I know a wireless router is a must, but is there anything else that has to go on the shopping list?

Also I'd like to know where people on here have had problems with it in the past - the dos and don'ts kinda thing.

Any help would be much appreciated - cheers in advance. :)

  4. Here's 2 I got from a website the last few days......

A little boy goes to his dad and asks, "What is politics?"

Dad says, "Well son, let me try to explain it this way: I'm the breadwinner of the family, so let's call me capitalism. "

"Your Mom, she's the administrator of the money, so we'll call her the Government.

We're here to take care of your needs, so we'll call you the people."

"The nanny, we'll consider her the Working Class.

And your baby brother, we'll call him the Future.

Now, think about that and see if that makes sense,"

So the little boy goes off to bed thinking about what dad had said.

Later that night, he hears his baby brother crying, so he gets up to check on him.

He finds that the baby has severely soiled his diaper. So the little boy goes to his parents' room and finds his mother sound asleep.

Not wanting to wake her, he goes to the nanny's room.

Finding the door locked, he peeks in the keyhole and sees his father in bed with the nanny. He gives up and goes back to bed.

The next morning, the little boy says to his father, "Dad, I think I Understand the concept of politics now."

The father says, "Good son, tell me in your own words what you think politics is all about."

The little boy replies, "Well, while Capitalism is screwing the Working Class, the Government is sound asleep, the People are being ignored and the Future is in deep shit."

A couple was on their honeymoon, lying in bed, about ready to consummate their marriage, when the new bride says to the husband, "I have a confession to make, I'm not a virgin."

The husband replies, "That's no big thing in this day and age."

The wife continues, "Yeah, I've been with one guy."

"Oh yeah? Who was the guy?"

    "Tiger Woods."

    "Tiger Woods, the golfer?"

    "Yeah."

"Well, he's rich, famous and handsome. I can see why you went to bed with him."

The husband and wife then make passionate love.

When they are done, the husband gets up and walks to the telephone.

"What are you doing?" asks the wife.

The husband says, "I'm hungry, I was going to call room service and get something to eat."

    "Tiger wouldn't do that."

"Oh yeah? What would Tiger do?"

"He'd come back to bed and do it a second time."

The husband puts down the phone and goes back to bed to make love a second time.

When they finish, he gets up and goes over to the phone. "Now what are you doing?" she asks.

The husband says, "I'm still hungry so I was going to get room service to get something to eat."

    "Tiger wouldn't do that."

"Oh yeah? What would Tiger do?"

"He'd come back to bed and do it again."

The guy slams down the phone, goes back to bed, and makes love one more time.

When they finish he's tired and beat. He drags himself over to the phone and starts to dial.

The wife asks, "Are you calling room service?"

"No! I'm calling Tiger Woods, to find out what the par is for this damn hole."

  5. I think Firhill has written that advert for the BBC Cameramen......

    One million cockroaches.......

On top of a 300ft high pile of bat droppings......

    A month's filming.........

Ever dreamt of being a BBC Cameraman?

    This is what we do..........

    Top class

  6. That's not me, although all the evidence would convict me..................

    Not ALL the evidence Bill.

I'm fairly sure Hey Yo's sig is about this dude............. post-4-1154990830.gif

    Remember?

  7. They aren't the worst adverts I've ever seen unless there's a really bad one I haven't seen? If so, refresh it....

The worst ones I've ever seen (Viral pop-ups aside obviously) would go to the ones on Play For Your Club that slow the game down for a brief second........

When I used to play that, they did my fecking nut in - actually made me wish it was in a pop up window (which I normally f"king hate) so I could hide the bastard things.......

  8. As TL infers, the Motorhead version is far superior and makes the Metallica version sound like a wimp band like the B**tl*s or U2..................................

The live S&M Metallica performance is pretty f"kin sweet, but yeah, the Motorhead cover is class personified.

Btw BvB - bought Wreckless Intent yet? If not I'll make you up a copy. B)

  9. Oh Aye. And 4. A nice train journey. I really quite like a nice journey by train.

....except when the train carriage is full of f**k-witted ned f**kwits gobbing off constantly to each other or drinking tinnies endlessly or playing feckin MP3 players at top volume so the carriage fills with that fecking TSSSSSHHH TSSSSSHHH TSSSSSSSSHHHH feckin irritating noise. Or f**kin Mancunian arseholes with a guitar who play and sing shite Oasis songs the whole journey and think they're all "mad for it" and tell everybody so whether they give a feck or not. Or f**k-witted fannies that wouldn't know about considering others if you tattooed it on their feckin eyeballs that sit there with their manky feckin feet up on the seats and give you dog's abuse in return if you so much as politely suggest they desist.

    AAARRRRRRRGGGGGGh

Take it you don't enjoy B&W Army.com Specials then?

  10. Too right. Ah cannae think o 5 things that are acceptable..

    1. Scrappy 1-0 victories for St.Mirren......

    2. Scrappy 2-1 victories for St.Mirren......

    3. Wee bit less scrappy 2-0 victories for St.Mirren......

    4. Wee bit less scrappy 3-1 victories for St.Mirren......

    5. Not at all scrappy 3-0 victories for St.Mirren......

    And so on...? :P

  11. Indeed - my web empire is experiencing a few difficulties at the moment.

I am working on a resolution.

Where did I put that screwdriver  ?

    Here's a Paisley one..............

    sledgehammer.jpg

    :)

  12. Aside from Love St and in no particular order......

Easter Road - great stadium, big without being insane and going to Edinburgh is always an experience. Let down only by the animals of a home support and the maze of streets to get to the ground.

Palmerston - modern facilities at a reasonable price in a town centre location. Everything you really want out of a ground. Great day out too being a good distance away without being stupid.

McDiarmid - Original and best of the purpose built 10k stadia. Still looks decent today, or it would if the seating colour pattern didn't look like what's left over in the lego parts bin.

Firhill - good rebuilt traditional ground, much like Love St in many ways. Close to us, good pubs in the area and a good home support.

Gayfield - basic and no short trip but on a good day, very possibly the best day out Scottish Fitba has to offer - covered terracing right next to the pitch makes it cheap and atmospheric to the point of Hinchy being put off his game by one Shuggie Robinson, and Quitongo's infamous pole dance. Plus good pubs and grub a stones throw away. Top class. :D

  13. A few weeks ago I couldn't help noticing that this was on sale (bit of a blast from the past for those that remember it)....

    Naked Video - Series 1

Great to see an almost forgotten show like that being brought back for general release many years on. :)

So it got me thinking - what shows/fillums/whatever are there that you'd want to see get a DVD release so you could buy, but haven't already.

Here's 5 of mine (mainly comedy for me but feel free to have anything you like) for a start...

    1) - Samurai Pizza Cats - The English re-write of the scripts was done in a Magic Roundabout pisstaking/adult humour stylée which made it an instant classic.

    2) - Mary Whitehouse Experience - Mr Strange (Lovely...Milky Milky...) and History Today (See That? That's You That Is). Juvenile? Totally but who cares.

    3) - Mock The Week. A highlights reel would do for this in a 'Have I Got News For You' fashion. The sheer amount of pisstaking from Bremner, Dennis & Boyle is tremendous. "Harry Potter and the child actor's nevitable mental breakdown" indeed.

    4) - QI. Brilliant show which just oozes class. Think I heard it is to get a DVD release but if so it's ages off sadly. Anyway - I want that list of Scottish Inventions that Fry did so well off the autocue to store somewhere. :D

    5) - The Super Mario Bros movie. For me a total nostalgia trip - trashed by the critics (obviously) and geek brigade (daftarses) for not being true to the imagery of the game but in actual fact a very enjoyable fun wee action movie - brilliant example of not-to-be-taken-seriously matinée stuff.

  14. 1) - The one in Girvan just opposite the Harbour Bar. Excellent grub at good prices, along with Ginger Beer, Macaroon Bars & Millionaire's Shortbread. :D :D

    2) - That one in Auchterarder a wee bit up the hill from the car park - past the wee supermarket. Wee bit expensive but the grub is always top notch. :)

    3) - The one on the hill in Pitlochry. Always such a relief to get something to eat in there after a couple of hours travel back from games Oop North. B)

    4) - There's a great wee chippy in Glasgow...Hope St if I remember right, just up from SausageRoll St. Had a few good sausage suppers from there over the years....

    5) - Allans in Storie St. Just because. B)
