I don't know much about the potential cost of the work, but, personally, I would love to see us have a similar set up to St Johnstone at home games. A wee bar open to fans for a couple of drinks before the match. It doesn't have to be anything fancy, theirs doesn't even have many tables or chairs, but it's reasonably priced, well stocked and, most weeks, it's open to both sets of fans.
I couldn't see all that many occasions where there would be trouble between opposing supporters, most teams would be fine. I quite enjoy having a laugh with the home fans when we go there and I've always found the atmosphere to be friendly. I think a couple of bus loads of thirsty travelling fans arriving at 2:30 is an untapped, potentially significant income stream for us...

I always liked Mehmet, his scoring record wasn't brilliant, but I can guarantee none of the SPL centre backs would look forward to playing against him. Always a handful, very intelligent and capable of something special now and then. He's a very good all round footballer, and, I always said when he was with us, if he was a better finished he'd have never been playing with us in the first place. In short...If we get the chance to sign him, we should jump at it...

Wouldn't have thought so, I similar thing happened to me a few months back and I got a 2nd chance the following week.Hope im no back at the bottom of the list after only getting an invite on matchday last week whilst i was working in Inverness

I was quite impressed with him against Morton in pre-season but, again, that was against poorer opposition. He hasn't really shown up in the league games I've seen, could have forgotten he was playing against Celtic. I think he may have ability but lacks the confidence to demand the ball at the moment and that's the only way for a player like him to influence the game. I have to agree that I'd like to see Caldwell start ahead of him on Saturday, but I do think if we can get him off the bench and running at players with fresh legs, he could still have something to offer us.

I've only made it to a couple of games so far this season for varying reasons, the home defeat to Hamilton and the cup win over Dunfermline. We were pretty poor on both occasions, granted we ground out a win in the 2nd game, but against poor opposition. Maybe there have been signs so contradict this in the other matches, but I can honestly say I'm not overly worried yet for a few simple reasons.
1 - Cheesy; he's no world beater, this we know, he's in a particularly bad run of form but he will recover with some support from the staff and the fans, when he's playing well he's perfectly adequate...
2 - Signings; I've seen at least 1 or 2 moments from every single one of the new players that suggests to me they can all contribute well over the season. Tess we know well, Plummer looks a class act, Caldwell has looked lively as has Marwood, Ball is unfit but has shown some very nice touches, Osbourne is another player we know well from watching the SPL and Drury at least looks fast and direct, even if he maybe lacks some composure, but that will come...
Basically...the players are there, it's just a matter of settling things down and getting the basics right...

I know Toshney's name and I know I've seen him play, but can't remember any specific performances. For a centre half that's not necessarily a bad thing, at least he wasn't a notable bomb-scare...

Naismith Tesselaar Plummer Kelly
There's a back 4, it's a bit makeshift, but it has to be worth a try. Tess hasn't looked out of place at centre half on the couple of occasions I've seen him there. Brining Kelly back in means we can leave Naismith on the right and not have to drop Drury in at full back...

I think Barr's had a bad rap for a while due to all the hype about him as a youngster. He was vastly overrated by Falkirk and the media. He should have never played for Scotland, but that's not his fault, what's he supposed to say "nah, sorry I don't fancy playing for my country, I'm not quite good enough", I don't think so...he's a decent player with lots of experience, I can't imagine he'd cost the earth, so I wouldn't mind him signing.
-
I would take Darren Barr if he was available. Good cover for a few positions.
-
I had heard from a reliable source (2nd hand admittedly) that McGowan was shown the door because, not only was his attitude rotten, but it was starting to infect some of the young players in the squad. If that's true, and again I admit there's no way of proving it, then there was no choice but to let him go.

Im really not bothered about Dury I would rather we finally sort out the centre of defence first than sign another young loan player!
Plumber played well against Motherwell and poor against Hamilton. That's the problem with loan signings you get top quality young player's with potential but with the exception of Dumnet and Isma rarely get consistency!
I think we need a proper experienced central defender and have done for over 5 years now!
I am not against signing another loan player especially when they are versatile and can play plenty of positions across the midfeild but if we can sign a experienced Cb that will gain us more points and solve a problem that has needed addressed way back to the McPherson era!
You thought Plummer was poor against Hamilton? He was one of the few on the park to get pass marks...he strolled through the game and looked a class above the rest of the team! I almost felt the need to personally apologise to him! Were you at the match?
Also...Isma? Consistent? The guy gained legendary status for a few huge performances and a few massive goals and I'll alway be grateful to him for that, but let's be honest, he looked pretty uninterested a lot of the time. A great player but never consistent...

Have to say I do think a commanding centre half is worth throwing up for corners, they can chip in with the odd goal. The last centre back we had that was any use for that was Chris Innes, a player in his mould would be good for us, but only if he is a true quality player.

Double posted that somehow...

I think a shade of realism is required about the standard of player we can expect to sign. We can't sign an experienced, 6'2", quick, strong, intelligent, ball playing centre half, because playing for St Mirren is neither attractive nor lucrative enough for us to snare that kind of player.
Luckily for us, all the other Premiership clubs are faced with the same problems and therefore end up signing the same calibre of player we do.
Our options at the back might not be brilliant, but there aren't many sides who are any better off. Celtic and Aberdeen are probably the only 2 who have much better strength in depth. There are individuals at other clubs I would take, like Scott Boyd from County and Soutar from Dundee United, but few pairings who are streaks ahead of us in terms of ability.
It's all to do with how the defence is organised by the manager and protected by the midfield.

I have no clue whether we're going to sign a centre half or not, all I know is, if we do sign one, it'll be because Tommy Craig thinks he will improve the starting 11. I think it's clear already that he'd much rather give guys like Williams a chance, than pay some waster god knows how much a week to sit on the bench just to appease the fans, and I can't say I disagree with him. I don't know about anyone else, but I have no desire to see our club's, already tight, budget stretched even further to sign someone just for the sake of it.

Had a feeling this was going to be a wee bit of Ian Harte syndrome. Great to see the deal done. He sounds like he's the exact type of player we need. I have to say I was a bit sceptical about Tommy taking over full time, but I've been pleased with more or less everything he's done so far.
Our own home grown youth players will form the bulk of the team next season, padded out with some experienced professionals, with a few quality players brought in to add the finishing touches. One centre half required and the squad will be more or less complete in my opinion.
I also feel our youths are in a brilliant position within the squad under Tommy. They have the talent, so they will have plenty of opportunity to play, but we have enough experience that they won't have the pressure of being constantly relied upon. Guys like Kello, McAusland, Goodwin, Teale and Thompspn will be there to shoulder much of the responsibility and allow the youngsters to play and learn the game without pressure.

See how he does tonight. Centre half sounds promising too...

Chris Porter, Michael Higdon, Billy McKay, Scott Vernon, Adam Rooney, Chris Killen, John Sutton, Jon Daly...there's many, many more. It's not exactly far fetched to think that a player who's relatively unknown in Scotland can come from the Football League with a fairly modest goal scoring record and make an impact in the SPL. It's not a sure thing, but it's certainly not a massive gamble. In my opinion he's exactly the type of player we should be looking at.

From my Football Manager days I seem to remember that there's only a limit on domestic loans, and because Scotland is a FIFA nation in it's own right, loans from England are seen as international.

He sounds like a good prospect to me, Derby have as a good a youth set up as most of the EPL clubs, they wouldn't have spent so much time and money bringing him on if he was hopeless. They could have easily cut him loose at 17 but they must have seen something in him to nurture him for 12 years. He could be a player who makes a real difference for us.
-
Seemed very comfortable at centre half any time I watched him. I'm glad to see him back. Consistent performer, plays anywhere across the back, plenty of experience, won't be costing the earth. Good signing.

First time I've seen them this pre-season, I was impressed by both Marwood and Caldwell, Marwood was particularly good and already seems to have formed a strong understanding with the team, most notably Gregg Wylde, they had 3 or 4 clever exchanges, one of which led to the goal.
I liked the look of Brown in the 2nd half too. A lot of confidence on the ball for such a young guy. Made a couple of Andy Dorman style late runs into the box, very promising.
I'd like to see the trialist again, but, being his 2nd trial match, I'm guessing yesterday was more or less make or break for him. Looked accomplished on the ball, good control, 2 footed passing. Wasn't stretched too much defensively but lost out in a couple of arial battles with Barrowman.
A nervous display from Mo Yacub, but still showed some nice touches and a good bit of dig, I'm sure he'll feature a fair bit this season.
Lastly, I'm not Cheesy's biggest fan sometimes, but he looked 10 feet tall wearing the armband yesterday, and played brilliantly. The long drilled pass he played along the deck for Marwood in the first half was exceptional.

Aye , but you know how this one works , don't you ?
His first goal for them will be against us , and it will take a deflection off of Jack Ross's arse on the way in. .
Nah...we don't play Kilmarnock til the 13th September, that's the 6th league game of the season. He'll have been dropped by then. Having played 90 minutes in the first game, being subbed off after an hour in the 2nd, coming off the bench after 75 in the 3rd and appearing for 5 minutes in the 4th, he should then go on to be mostly an unused sub, appearing only occasionally for 3 minutes if Killie are up by 1 going into injury time...so I don't reckon he'll have much playing time to haunt us with, unless Kilmarnock are beyond brutal...
