  1. I'm an SNP voter but this girl really doesn't come across well in that video. Not sure how she was selected when we finally have the chance of kicking Labour out of Paisley.

Hating Celtic though is of course perfectly fine!

Mhairi Black was elected to stand in the constituency by the members of the three SNP branches in the Westminster Parliamentary constituency. Three people stood for selection, although one withdrew for personal reasons and Mhairi was chosen by a simple majority of the 1500 or so members of the three branches, by secret ballot.

Interesting to see that at least one of the players involved claims United's great statement isn't true.

Celtic's Stuart Armstrong denies Dundee United exit request_59918438_al1.jpgBy Alasdair Lamont BBC Scotland

New Celtic signing Stuart Armstrong says suggestions that he and Gary Mackay-Steven had expressed a desire to exit Dundee United are untrue.

United said in a statement they agreed to a £2m double deal because the players wanted to leave.

Armstrong, 22, was asked if that had been the case and replied: "No, I don't think so. It was up to the clubs.

"They agreed a fee and it provided an opportunity for us to come to speak to the people here."

The midfielder revealed it was a wrench to leave United, but he's excited at the prospect of playing for the Scottish champions.

"Yesterday was a bit of a long day," he said of transfer deadline day. "It worked out in the end. It was too good an opportunity to turn down.

"It was difficult leaving Dundee United. I've been there many years and met many great people and I owe a lot to Stevie Campbell who brought me in and [current manager] Jackie McNamara, who had really brought me on.

The pair played together at United for several seasons

"Celtic is a huge club and it's a great opportunity. It is an enormous club with enormous support and the stadium is wonderful, so it will be a big difference from what we are used to, but I am looking forward to it."

Armstrong admits he has "always had a notion of being in England" but explained: "When it came down to it, Celtic seemed quite keen and what's not to like about Celtic Football Club?

"You've got the lure of European football. You grow up watching European competitions and it's something we now have a chance to be part of and that's pretty special.

"I wouldn't say I'm going straight into the first team. Everyone's got to prove themselves and I'm here to work hard and to try to make a claim for a shirt on the park."

Currently doing a law degree in his spare time, Armstrong added: "I've got an essay due tomorrow morning - 2,000 words that I've not even started.

"I had a lot of free time in the afternoons and it was something I was interested in at school. It keeps your mind off other things at times."

Winger Mackay-Steven, 24, had already lined up a summer move to Celtic after signing a pre-contract but was delighted to make the move early, even though he will now not feature in March's League Cup final between Celtic and Dundee United.

Celtic reached the Scottish League Cup final by beating Rangers on Sunday

Armstrong and Mackay-Steven will be ineligible for Celtic's remaining domestic cup ties this season.

"It will be a strange situation watching the final," said Mackay-Steven. "Saturday [united beating Aberdeen in the semi-final] was a great high for us, getting to another cup final and we were just looking forward to Sunday and seeing who our opponents would be.

"It would have been a strange situation playing for Dundee United against my future employers, Celtic.

"To know I will not be involved at all is quite strange as well, but football is like that and I am focusing on the league games.

"As a football player, situations like that can arise and I would have dealt with that, but maybe it is a good thing that I won't have to face it.

"When a club like Celtic shows interest, your head is immediately turned - the facilities and stature of the club is world renowned.

"We have played here before as opposing players and it is an unbelievable arena to play your football. We want to kick on our careers and get Scotland caps and hopefully down the line we can do that.

"There's a massive [Europa League] game in a few weeks against Inter Milan and not much needs to be said about how exciting that is for everyone."

  3. I wasn't having a dig - you were right to point out it is ten miles(ish), not about five as I wrongly stated. I am on an iPod mobile version otherwise would have inserted appropriate smilies.

My point is merely that we are not unique in being a small club in the shadow of the two Glasgow big clubs - made in response to a post from someone who seemed to be suggesting that we should somehow accept our lot as a wee club because of the OF proximity.

In attempting to make the point that others are in the same boat, I have clearly made a rip-roaring cnut of it, and am happy to admit to that.

I have been a bad boy, and as punishment, will now watch a re-run of the entire 2010 League Cup final.

    (Visualise another smilie here. Thanks.)

It wasn't a bad enough post to warrant a punishment like that. 20 Lashes will be sufficient.

  4. Fair enough, 10 miles - not 'about five' as I wrongly said. That five mile difference should be enough to insulate both clubs from losing fans to the ugly sisters, eh?

I'm not saying it is or isn't, but if you are going to proffer an opinion it's not unreasonable to expect any facts you quote at the start of that opinion to be more than 50% correct, it just lessens your argument, making it sound more like hyperbole then reason particularly as it makes the difference that they are both further removed from Celtic Park than we are from Ibrox.

  5. This. Hamilton Accies and Motherwell are about 5 miles from Sellik Park, and Lanarkshire is a hotbed of choosing the green or blue side of the divide. Partick Thistle are in the same goddam' city as the 'OF'.

Being in the shadow of the Glasgow giants has fcuk-all to do with anything. We are a smallish club for sure, but Celtic and Rangers have hee-haw to do with us getting Jack Shit for McLean in comparison to Accies deals for their young talent.

St Mirren have no divine right to anything, but by Christ, watching Accies, Partick, St Johnstone, Dundee and Inverness making us look like the SPFLs poor relation on and off the park is heartbreaking.

The stadium move, the clearing of the debt, the modern facilities supposedly vital in attracting better players, the 2013 cup win, the unbroken years of top flight experience.... We should at least be where the fakes have worked hard to get to. We are fcuking ourselves up from within.

    10 and 11 respectively.

  6. Not a defender though. Marc McAusland won't allow it!

Why don't we just use some of the wonderful youngsters that Longwell has in the U20s?

    Oh wait... there aren't any!

Defenders from the youth squad making the step up? It'll never happen, like it didn't happy with Kelly and Naismith.

  7. Not snowing in Paisley at the moment and the pitch looks great so I think it should be fine, not sure what the forecast is for tonight though.

Forecast is no snow and about 1 degree Celsius until well after midnight, The game shouldn't be in any danger.

My only concern is that the scoreboard might not be able to keep up with the goal machine that is Yoann Arquin, well that and the possibility of these meds wearing off.

  8. I thought for a minute we'd lost Shull.

Sad news, a bit before my time, but good pop music nonetheless. I was amazed to read the statistic that they spent more weeks in the singles charts than the Beatles from 65 to 69.

    RIP
