  1. Not reported on beeb , sky or eurosport. nothing on OS either. Mibbee just a talking to ? Weve got the fair play league to think about !!

Yeah, it's not been reported anywhere (sure they all get their stats from the same source), but I'd imagine it WILL be in the ref's report.

I do remember wondering at the time what the world record for fewest fouls in a game was as I think we only committed one in the first half, and maybe 2 in the second.

What a GIRUY it would be if we won the fair play league... with Jim Goodwin in the team!

  2. Yep he was booked for a tackle where Killie had an advantage as they went forward. Ref waited till next break in play and booked him

Which is pretty much what my point was in my original post.

Three times he did similar to Killie players - but a warning sufficed.

And it definitely wasn't down to their fouls being lesser, as at least two of them were identical in intent, and close in nature, to the one McLean was (rightly) booked for.

  3. Great result yesterday. The team had a better balance with Magennis on the right and Newton in the centre. McLean was different class and Wylde brought something different when he came on but why does DL wait so long before making subs. Think we are a better team without Goodwin with the midfield trying to pass and play instead of lumping the ball up the park. Looking on the BBC website for the match stats it appears that we only committed 2 fouls which in itself says a lot about Goodwin not playing.

Thought the centre of defence looked quite solid although Killie were only playing 1 up. Both centre backs need to practice heading the ball.

Next 3 games will be hard but if we can get 2 points from them it should put us in a good position for the run in.

They don't always get the stats absolutely right, but I don't think it's far off that.

We DID though manage to get two players booked, and yet again it seems there's a real inconsistency in what's required to get a booking if you wear black and white.

The ref managed to have words of warnings on at least four occasions with Killie players, but don't think he ever bothered warning us - just went straight for the cards.

There was one really dangerous lunge just before HT which I thought was clearly going to be a card, and he didn't even speak to the player.

I accept that the kind of trip McLean did is 9 times out of 10 a yellow - even if it is deep in the opponents half, but at least twice Killie players did almost identical fouls. One on McGinn was a clear attempt to break up an attack, but McGinn stayed on his feet and the ref played advantage - then just had a word with the player at the next break in play.

Really pissed off that in a game where we were the cleanest team, and committed a tiny amount of fouls, our card count is still higher than the oppositions.

  4. RE the Man City v Man United game, I'm obviously going to go watch the Saints game.... BUT, I'm really angry that I'm now not going to get to see the Manc derby game.

Like it or not, a lot of people who follow specific clubs do also like to watch big games involving other clubs.

Surely people at our club, when organising fixtures, would look to see what the 'competition' is for given dates.

To rearrange TO a date when one of the biggest club games on these islands is taking place just doesn't make any sense.

Agreed, probably not that many neutrals would go to this game anyway, but that doesn't mean a lot of Saints fans will be pissed off at not being able to watch both.

  5. Was never a foul, if anything Djembe2 puts his hand towards the county player then dives. The County player had a look of "wtf is he all about "when he looked at the ref.

Sometimes the ref gets it right and it isn't our favour.

I actually thought he looked worried, but even if he did the 'WTF', it's not unusual for professional footballers to kick their opponents up in the air, and then plead their innocence.

To me, it was a foul - soft, but a foul nonetheless.

  6. There's some people who do have an agenda against St Mirren.

A couple a weeks ago they showed Goodwin(who else) picking up a yellow for a nothing tackle.

The commentator doing the game was saying he's very lucky to not pick a red for a terrible tackle.

That night on Sportscene who usually show the same highlights had it deleted.

Someone must have seen the bias and decided not to show it

But last week in a terrible game which had few highlights they decided not to show the very good penalty kick claim we had.

The one John McGinn was clearly fouled

So depends who's in charge of the editing

Correct on both, but especially the latter.

Especially galling when the game was decided on a penalty that was a lot more contentious (WRT being in the box or not) than McGinn's.

He was completely taken out of the play, well inside the box, at 0-0 but hey, let's not bother mentioning it.

  7. The Sportscene producer is a St Mirren fan.

So, apparently, is Craig Thomson - you'd never have know it at Tannadice a couple of weeks ago though.

I daresay other teams see the same things about their clubs, but so many times it feels like highlights we'd want to see of incidents or action favouring us don't appear, yet they seem to go out of their way to highlight stuff that doesn't favour us.

I watched the last 10 mintues of the Hearts v Celtic game, and Paterson (I think) caught Mulgrew in the face with a flailing arm - and two minutes later does another bad tackle. No idea what he'd done in the previous 80 minutes, but no card for either - and no discussion of it on Sportscene.

Same as last week when Shaunnesy caught McGinn in the first 5 minutes - no foul given (as with Goodwin's first 'incident' yesterday) but no big deal made about it on Sportscene.

If you know the producer, can you ask him why they choose to highlight some incidents, but others that are similar get ignored?

  8. Clutching at straws here, there was contact but not enough for him to lost his footing.

There was more contact in their second goal but no one rightly so is saying that was a foul also.

Are we doing any sprint training?

Richie Brittain was one of the slowest players i have ever seen at Love Street gave our players a clean pair of heels here.

A shocking performance bar Kello here

It was a foul nonetheless, and Tidser's reaction shows he thought so too.

After seeing the ref wave play on, he then runs forward to make the pass to the goal scorer.

I do agree that the second one wasn't a foul... but if Goodwin has stayed on his feet and Brittain had fallen, I've a feeling a foul would have been given.

  9. On McGinn and the Scotland U21s... being a St Mirren player doesn't seem to have held back McLean from being selected for a few seasons.

On the contrary, I'd say given his performances and how long he's been a member of the first team squad, I'd say he's had very few appearances - certainly in relation to players playing at a much lower level.

I'm sure even Falkirk have had more U21 caps than we have over the last 2 years, and when you consider more than a year ago McGinn outplayed £12m superstar Wanyama in a national final, he especially seems to have been unfairly overlooked.

  10. I think if he played for the old firm he would be getting touted for the main Scotland squad the same way they tried to tout Gauld from Dungdee Utd.

I actually think if McGinn played for either of the old firm he would be in the under 21 team

The only reason McGinn isn't selected for U/21 is that he plays for unfashionable St Mirren.

I mean Lewis McLeod who i saw playing for U/21s and was by far the worst player on show.

Only picked to please or find favour with the Sevco fans

    100% spot on chaps.

The fact McGinn is not in the U21s as the first name on the team sheet is totally ridiculous.

Don't want to sound paranoid, but I can't see beyond it being because of who he plays for.

Maybe Stark is getting revenge on all those North Bank helments who thought he was rubbish and lazy. ***

*** Interestingly, none of those people seem to exist any more.

  11. It's a pretty inconclusive camera view. The linesmans position would suggest there is a defender out of shot playing him onside as they are supposed to be in line with the last defender.

    If not, he's a dobber.

    He's a dobber.

Even by the time the shot has been saved and the ball is squared, there are no Saints players in the right back position.

I too though thought it must be something like that, but no, he just looks at an Aberdeen player who is ridiculously obviously offside and keeps his flag down.

Sadly, he was the only official who had a good enough view to see that DD's rash tackle was actually not in the box.

  12. Just posted this on P&B:

    *****

Rooney had the best chance in the game, by a distance.

For some reason Sportscene didn't record for me tonight, but I did record the whole match yesterday.

Decided to watch the chance you referred to, and boy, is it not one of the worst decisions you've seen at a match since McGinn not getting a penalty for being taken out earlier in the half.

    post-634-0-88358100-1392599416_thumb.jpg

Seriously, can anyone ever remember seeing a clearer offside decision than this not being given?

Walker's earlier comment about Logan fouling McGinn in the box and it not being a penalty, followed up by him watching the replay of this and saying "Rooney Onside" really makes me wonder if he has an Aberdeen allegiance I've previously missed, or if Saints catering gave him pickled onion Monster Munch with his half time Bovril.

    *****

Leaving all other debates aside, our job is so much harder when we have officials who don't give us clear penalties, and who (god only knows how) can decide that the above was onside - gifting our opponents a gilt edged chance.

That lack of an offside flag is almost criminal.

  13. Can't belive no-one's mentioned this yet (or I've Missed it !!) but in the first couple of minutes Shaughnessy clattered into McGinn with arms raised into his face. To his credit John went down, got himself together and got up and carried on as if nothing had happened. Just think, if it had been our "Ghost" that did it we'd have played nearly the full game with 10 men and the press would be all over it !!!!

Hmmm. Lack of consistency? Quelle surprise!

Jim does intentional handball to gain advantage. Yellow card.

5 minutes later... a Don does intentional handball to gain advantage. No card.

Russell Anderson also committed 5 fouls during the game - didn't even merit a word or warning from the ref. Same as GMS last week - plus an outrageous dive.

Can you imagine Jim or DD committing 5 fouls in a game and still being on the pitch?

  14. Just watched some key bits back.

McGregor's goal, clearly offside - no idea why the linesman didn't just put his flag up as soon as it was clear he was going for the ball. As soon as he does, he's interfering with play. Why wait then?

Aberdeen's penalty - Pawlett clearly looking for if and sadly DD obliged. Borderline on whether it was inside the box or not, but I believe you are supposed to give any benefit to the attacking team, so understandable it was given.

Usual lack of consistency though, and if the ref had properly called the foul on McGinn in the box earlier in the half, Aberdeen's penalty would never have happened in the first place.

Clear penalty - thought so at the time, and the TV replays show it.

Why on earth is Andy Walker still getting paid to comment on football matches though. On Saints penalty he says "Looks like Logan didn't actually touch the ball at all, but the referee probably called it right."

Really Andy, player goes for ball in box, doesn't make it and takes out opponent instead... and NOT giving a penalty is the correct decision?

And we weren't even playing against Celtic!?!?

  15. What crap we were playing hearts u20s plus two or three hardened pros. They have taken 20points this season to our 24 so tell me who is making progress. This is the same hearts that killie beat 4-0 and thistle 3-0 so I'm sorry but your simply taking shit to suggest it was a tough venue. It was against a team without there best player and against a team we had to beat. It's bollocks we have so many just happy to see Danny take us to the playoff. So many with unwavering support. Our next fixtures include celtic away twice, Aberdeen home and county away . I'm sorry his record suggests we will be right in it come april

Hearts had just come off their best result of the season - also without their best player playing.

They'd beaten Ross County who had been showing amazing form, and who had beaten Dundee United 3-0 the week before.

We all know that a big support can go for you or against you depending on their motivation. Hearts fans were probably at their highest ebb all season - they'd just won a game (a rarity), they'd a cup semi coming up... and after three minutes they'd seen their team come from behind.

I absolutely do not want to see us anywhere near the playoffs, but on last night's game specifically, I think we played and fought well, and should have come away with at least a point.

I actually enjoyed watching 10 man Saints outplay Hearts in the second half - just gutted we didn't score.

  16. We should be lobbying the club to appeal, and the compliance officer should as you say be showing consistency towards simulation!

Are you talking about the dive in the first half or the one for the pen?

The on in the first was so bad I think the ref thought it was a stumble, but the Hearts player clearly didn't realise the defender had stopped chasing him.

If the ref had yellowed that, maybe the guy who dived for the penalty wouldn't have?

  17. Agreed but the bigger picture, I'm sure you're aware, paints a bleak outlook.

As for the reaction to last nights game, I'm surprised you're surprised.

Yup, over the season we've not got anything like the points tally we should have.

The last two Hearts matches sum it up - 1 point out of 6, when we should have had 6.

Just realised that McAusland was instrumental in both games for different reasons. First game his injury led to a bizarre formation change which turned the game in Hearts favour; last night gets a red card and the game winning penalty awarded against him.

Biggest worry is the squad. Very very light, and the possibility of Novo being added to it is enough to make even the happiest of clappers worried.

  18. Taking last night's game in isolation, I'm genuinely surprised at the amount of negativity surrounding it.

We're playing away, in front of one of the toughest away crowds, against a team who've just come off their best result of the season.

I know stats don't tell the whole tale, but we have more shots on/off target, double the number of corners, and that's despite playing almost half of the game with 10 men.

We hit the bar at 0-0, had a fantastic chance to go 2-0, and lost the equalising goal in part to a deflected cross that fell perfectly for the Hearts striker.

The winning goal comes from a very very soft penalty.

But even after conceding that and going down to 10, the heads don't drop and we are the better team - indeed we could easily have scored 3.

End result is another defeat, but I just don't get the negativity over what happened on the pitch last night.

I really hope the players don't react to this in the same way as most of the fans have.

  19. kimarnock - larger average crowds, bigger turnover, larger stadium = bigger club. Some of our fans are pretty deluded as to how big a club we are.

Their stadium may be larger than ours, but Michelle Mcamanus is larger than Beyonce.

Killie's stadium is a dilapidated, crumbling, unsafe mess.

On average it has 14,000 EMPTY seats every home game.

IMO St Mirren Park >>> Rugby Park.

  20. In you're opinion, I keep my glass half full..... I'll admit we failed to create much, mainly due

to our wide players Newton (needs dropping) and Grainger, but we had a few good performers, Mcginn

McGowan and Campbell, for me the only killie player that stood out was Samson, tells its own story.....

We created more and better chances than Killie did though.

The save from Thommo's flick, and the clearance of the line from Grainger (both at 1-1) could easily have seen us go ahead again.

  21. I was screaming for a red card when Jason Naismith was running in on goal , but the referee made no decision whatso ever and played on . a major turning point in the match ,.two hand balls , fouls against us 1st half ,okay ! two hand balls against killie playes play on,? These we subtle things help change a game .

Was hoping to see the Naismith incident on the hilights, but unfortunately the BBC editor decided not to bother showing it.
