  1. I thought the cooncil had plans for a cafe culture based around the uni end of high street - or has that been ditched by present regime (labour)as it was the previous (snp) plan?

I agree with waht you say. There's no point in going for more of the same. The "cafe culture" on paper sounded like an excellent idea, but I never saw it progress in any way shape or form in practice. The cafe idea is actually pretty old now, was it not superseded by the "retail outlet town" vision, which again never seemed to go anywhere. So many ideas but so little action for all political parties.

  2. The current swath of pedestianised wasteland is a nonsense. There are almost no shops on the high street / County Square so what is the point of pedestrianisation. Buy closing these areas to cars it means that traffic has to go all round the town rather than threw it. This means that

    1. people can't be droped of/picked up near these shops.

The pedestianised part of the High Street is only 100m long. People can be dropped off in very close proximity to the shops. This plan is only intended for evening time anyway, which is little use for dropping folk off at the shops.

    2. cars not driving past means people can't see what is there from their cars. Out of sight out of mind

Reasonable point but far from convinced that bringing traffic back to the high st is the soultion. Again, the shops will be closed and dark at times traffic will be present. Some form of targetted advertising campaign, surely, makes more sense?

    3. The place just looks dead, even when there actually quite a few people there.

That is a result of nae shops. The objective should be to attract tennants, not "make the place look busy". If enough tennants, with sustainable businesses are attracted, everything else will look after itself.

    4. At night these spaces feel/are unsafe

That is true, but again attract the right mix of tennants and this will change.

    5. F*ckwits litter the place with "art installations"

F*ckwits will continue to litter the place, but in addition, every car and every dreaded McGills bus will litter the place with horrible exhaust fumes and noisy old engines.

    6. The open topped bus with the League cup winners cant drive down the high street with Shull following in his taxi honking his horn.

The open top bus does not need to comply with the laws of the land. It can go where ever the f*ck it wants (provided it is in Paisley).

Are you aware of the costs involved (both direct and indirect) of re-opening the streets to traffic?

Are you aware of the amount of disruption and length of disruption that would be required?

Have you seen a business plan that supports the proposal?

Is the any one with any authority on the subject actually endorsing the proposal?

The public did not support a very similar proposal in 2009, why should they support this?

To me it looks like another back of a fag packet proposal with nae substance but a good headline. How could you persuade me otherwise? I'm genuinely interested in the theory behind the proposal.

  3. I've never been convinced by 10000hours but stating that developing The Void is not an essential part of the bid yet having a target of completion by the end of 2012 seems inconsistent to me.

It is only inconsistent because you want it to be. You're trying too hard to be negative and it nullifies your (possibly) legitimate concerns.

  4. I sincerely hope that once the negotiations re-start that 10000hours will severely adjust their offer downwards by at least 500k. As the chairman was so eager to tells only 2 weeks ago the club was the verge collapse, I assume that the asking price will be reflected. A failing business cannot be valued the same as a successful business, can it?

  5. Will a statement from 10000hours be forthcoming? Given today's statement in the PDE surely 10000hours cannot endorse the club's position. Surely it goes against EVERYTHING that 10000hours stand for?

Like I said the other day, donating money to the club blindly, with no reassurances CANNOT be the best way to help the club. Can it?

REA/GLS, please address this subject. It could make or break 10000hours reputation.

  6. Sid, you're just being provocative on this one. There is nothing wrong with what 10000hrs are doing per se. It is a simple amendment to their current infrastructure.

Would be good if they could secure some assurances at the same time though.

The use of "shambles" is the type of nonsense one would expect to read in the Daily Record.

  7. Bit disappointed have read both 10000hrs and SMISA statements tbh. Donate money and ask no questions? Supporting the club blindly does not sound like a wise plan to me. Surely both these groups should asking for reassurances before pledging hard cash.

They should start by requesting that the club make their position clear with regard to SPL2 and the Settlement Agreement.

The club have not yet done enough to deserve fans' hard earned cash. Simple questions should be answered publicly.

Clyde on the other hand deserve every penny their fans can afford.

For what it is worth I actually quite like the scheme and the statement. Sort out the fundamental issue and it could be a winner both for 10000hrs and SMFC.

  8. The same St Mirren support that until about 7 or 8 years ago sang "f**k the pope and f**k the queen"?

I'm not saying what he done was ok, but he's been punished and should be allowed to improve his life.

Oh no. Do I really have to explain it to you? It's all about context.... Feck it, I can't be bothered.

  9. Sorry, what have 10000Hours got to do with what St.Mirren FC are currenty doing ?

It seems a bit bizarre to punish the group who are trying to deliver fan ownership because the current board aren't seen to be listening to the fans ?!

The newco situation should be a fundamental condition attached to the sale of the club. If today's deal goes through then it's too late for 10000 hours, the game is dead. There is no point in fans wasting their money on Scottish football.

  10. The council haven't got two brass tacks to rub together and the SNP group have negligible influence on the council.

Apart from that, it's a storming idea Brian.

What's more concerning is the number of people taken in by this PR crap. It's no better than the tabloid spin we've witnessed from Jim Traynor and Keith Jackson about Rangers for the last 12 months.

Like I said, keep your political games away from our football club.
