  1. Have a chill pill or two Norrie. It is only a few weeks since you were defending Danny whilst basking in the glory of that home win over Dundee United is it not? 3 games later and you now want this "useless manager" removed. Have Danny's abilities and weaknesses changed much in the last fortnight? No! The main point I was making about a shocker of a performance was that it was not unexpected for me when we were without arguably our best 3 midfielders away from home against a side that have finished in the top 6 which has so far always eluded us. When our best players are all fit and in the starting XI and on form we are capable of playing Dundee United, Motherwell, Inverness, Ross County, Partick off the pitch. When one or two are out or off form we can get by. Yesterday we had McGinn, Teale and McLean missing and for me it has been 2 seasons since McGowan and Goodwin have been regularly excellent... we don't have a big enough or strong enough squad to cope with half the ideal starting XI being suspended, injured or off form.

I don't see it as a permanent state of doom. With a jail sentence avoided maybe McGowan will settle into better form? McGinn is back for the next game, Teale should be back in contention in a few weeks and a few weeks later we should have McLean back. Ross County will probably not keep on winning, we won't keep on losing, we may make some signings which improve us during this window - Campbell was always going to need time but has already scored 1 goal in 3 games.

I realise you think Motherwell are about the same size as us but they obviously can afford to offer players more money than we can (eg Sutton and Higdon) and have a bigger squad as well as a better paid squad than us. Over the last few seasons they've finished up in the European spots pretty consistently.

motherwell have been almost consistently above us in the league in the past 30 years and in that time, have also had avg attendances larger than our. They also have a bigger stadium = they are a bigger club.

  2. Wonder how many of our losses were "dead rubber" games?

A win's a win, if we'd lost these games "against kids" it would still be used to hammer the manager, can't see how it's relative unless it's to detract from the 3 points or win gained?

At the start of the season friendly games were used as fuel against the manager, do they count?

people can use stats to suit themselves, but we do need to face that we are a rotten team.

  3. It is Celtic but.... the centre of defence has got to be addressed.

Last season was our worst in the SPL for goals conceded (60). We are on course now (34 conceded in just 20 games) for an even worse return, and that's with a brilliant keeper!

Combinations of McGregor/Mair/McAusland/Goodwin have been tried and will not do. Lennon didn't sign any defenders in the summer, so must have thought those he had would tighten up. Unfortunately not. The shakiness also seems to be affecting the confidence of the two excellent young full backs we've brought through. They need to be beside older pros they can rely on.

We haven't actually signed any centre-halves since McGregor and McAusland came in three and a half years ago. Freshening things up in that position is well overdue and should be a priority. It was a mistake by Lennon not to address the weak defence in the summer. Kello has papered over the cracks a wee bit but it's still our achilles heel, and could well leave us battling to avoid 11th.

if he does go into the transfer market, he'll fanny about with midfielders and players who's positions are pretty much covered - that's generally been the way since he arrived.

  4. The fight was definitely stopped too early - groves was still returning punches when the ref jumped in. There was a good chance that he would have been knocked out in the 9th (i had a bet on that round - £140;), but you can't stop a world title fight on the basis that he might get knocked out.

As for the fight - groves was miles ahead. I'm a froch fan, but he was being taught a boxing lesson by groves and looked one dimensional. Watched it twice now and the stoppage still looks v premature on the second viewing.

  5. Great post. I think after the weekends performance McLean should be one of the first to be offered , to let his talent possibly go on a free in the summer would be madness.

tough one for the club. He's not a regular performer and there's a chance that if we have a poor run of form, we could be relegated and would badly struggle to meet his wages. Add to that his agent would be after a very good deal for him to stay on, leaving us financially exposed.

You can't blame clubs with our budget for not jumping in with knee jerk deals to players who realistically fall into the risk category.

No doubt he is potentially a cracking player - 10 more games like the last one and the board may well be breaking out the cheque book.

  6. So the fact he dropped the marquee signing of the summer leaves 2 ways to think about that one.

    A) brave, rational decision. Has seen an upturn in form. Good to see youth getting a shot.

    B) wtf were you thinking of by setting up a team with mcgowan, harkins and mclean all playing together, and spunking the budget so we couldn't strengthen the main problem areas.

Two ways to look at it....

No idea why b has been replaced by a smilie face?

  7. What punters were calling for that..?

all I read were clueless punters calling for Danny's heid, whilst getting involved with a viral campaign to discredit him on twitter.

    They're fecked noo!

  8. Anyone?

Perhaps we should get a new poll set up...remember when they were all the rage last month.

we have 5 points out of 24 and have been knocked out of the cup in the first round, so we've still had a shocking start, however the last 2 games have been very encouraging. Would love to see danny and the team do well, but we have a long way to go. Great couple of matches against 2 tricky teams - onwards and upwards hopefully!

  9. I think the show is better with him on it. Its what makes that show different from the rest.

Sterile , boring `expert analysis` or friendly light-hearted banter ? I prefer a wee listen to Tam just for a wee change from the dull mundane radio we normally get from other presenters. I guess its each to their own.

the problem is that listening to tam cowan is like listening to a character out of the broons - dated, predictable and unfunny. The only saving grace for him is that he doesn't spend the show discussing what flavour of crisps neil lennon likes and why sevco should be allowed to go bust as often as they want.
