Goebbels theory that "if you want to control the population and you have to deal with an opposition, then you should accuse the other side of the sin or the trickery which you yourself are using".

I’m not accusing anyone of anything???

My claim was. You made a statement to which I responded to, I didn’t say you were wrong.
My comment about the NYT was based on their lies on the Russian collusion hoax, Ukraine, COVID and now the “Peaceful” protests.
BTW. I actually read one of the many books about Joseph Goebbels, very interesting it was too. Not because I’m some sort of sympathiser, but due to my interest in military and political history, usually as they both intertwine.

  2. More far right violence in Portland. When will the far right learn that violence is the last resort of the incompetent.

From what I’ve read, the guy wearing the hat was shot by an individual from the Antifa crowd. The same crowd that’s been terrorising, looting and burning cities across America for months.
It’s not like the New York Times to get a story wrong [emoji849]
  3. Lockdown in March was the correct thing to do, IMO it should have happened a couple of weeks earlier. However, the way they locked down was mad - frontline health services effectively packed up and went home. I went to my GP in March for a repeat prescription and was chased put the building by some receptionist shouting they don't see members of the public any more. So, in a health crisis, the government's response was to send home all frontline health workers, and cancel all non Covid related health care. Their subsequent protestations and concerns about people not presenting at health services ran a bit hollow.
I see swimming pools can open from tomorrow, but changing rooms won't be open, meaning you have to turn up in your costume, and also leave like that, presumably soaking wet [emoji23] Meanwhile, only 300 fans will be allowed into football matches when fans are finally allowed back in. This is to protect against a deadly killer virus that has killed 2 people in Scotland in the last six weeks.

Totally agree. However, those two deaths that you mention, we no longer hear if it was directly or indirectly due to COVID. We’re these two unfortunates elderly? Underlying health conditions etc. Why are we not being told this information anymore.

  4. Not in a Scottish IndyRef they don't. Is that not what we are talking about.

If the person born in the USA qualifies for a British passport, then they could always get one and vote, according to your "rule". Just as an FYI, it is British Subject, not National.

What I am getting at is you can have a British passport without being born in Britain and without ever having stepped foot in Britain, yet you think that anyone with a British passport should get to bote in a Scottish IndyRef. I don't have a passport, do I not get a vote?

The question was regarding foreign nationals (subjects if you want to be splitting hairs)
You don’t need a passport unless you intend to travel overseas. You do however require a passport to get into the UK (unless you’re crossing the channel in a dinghy or the back of truck) so I don’t see what you’re point is.

So let me make my point clear once again.

I don’t believe foreign nationals (students or those in on a work permit as they’re do t have residency or citizenship) Now. That’s my opinion and you have yours. We’ll leave it at that.
  5. I assume citizens from Gilbraltar with a British passport will already have the right to vote?

Someone born in the USA (cue for a song) but doesn’t hold a British passport wouldn’t have a vote, because they’re not a British National.

If any of my responses are incorrect then hands up.

Someone on a work permit may end up making Scotland their home, and good for them. IMO, if you don’t hold a British passport you shouldn’t get a vote.

Again, in my opinion. Political parties are using the “foreign citizen” route to bolster their voting figures. That was a popular ploy by labour in England where the demographics were more of the Muslim persuasion. Put up a Muslim candidate to win a seat.
I’m not saying that’s what the SNP are doing, as they don’t really have competition.

  6. So you think that a British citizen, born and bred in Gibraltar and who has never been to Scotland should have a say?

What about someone born in the USA to British parents (and therefore qualifies for a British passport) but none of them have ever been to Scotland?

Someone on a work permit may, or may not, end up making Scotland their home. A Scot, living in Scotland may decide to go live somewhere else after voting, should nobody get a vote in case they move later?

  7. Because the most important people for a country are those who live and work there.
    Period.
I'm not sure what you are struggling with here TBH.

We obviously have a difference of opinion on this. My point being........ a foreign national could reside in Scotland (or the UK for that matter) for a period of say two years on a work permit, before heading back to for whence they came.......... but that persons vote could potentially have an impact (positive or negative) for a far longer period of time.
In my opinion. If you have a British passport then you get to vote.

Let me know if you’re struggling with this.
  8. You mean people who choose to live and work in Scotland but not people who chose to live and work elsewhere?

It is not being Scottish that qualifies you, it's residency in Scotland. If you are Scottish but live in Liverpool, you get to vote in the Liverpool City Council elections, if you are a Scouser living in Glasgow, you don't.

It would also be very difficult to determine who, other than residents, would/should be eligible to vote. Does being born in Scotland qualify you? What about someone who was born in Scotland to Chinese parents who were just here on holiday and hasn't been back since? Or is it ancestry that qualifies you? What about someone who was has never been to Scotland but was born to Scottish parents outwith Scotland? Does it extend to grandchildren if all the grandparents were born in Scotland but neither of the parents were? Or 3, 2 or just 1 grandparent? Great-grandchildren? Should it be open to anyone that "considers themselves" Scottish? What about those that live and work in Scotland but consider themselves another nationality (e.g. Celtic and Sevco fans)? default_smile.png

    As I said, very difficult.

Why should foreign citizens be allowed to vote?
I’ve lived and worked in many countries but never had the option to vote, and rightfully so. IMO. If an individual from a foreign country that has then taken British citizenship, then yes, but not someone that’s only in the country on the back of a visa/work permit.
  9. Other than the fact that including ALL Scots is more likely to help their side, have they given any justification for that stance?
I can't see any case for allowing anyone other than those who choose to live and work in Scotland being given the right to decide her future. You can't allow people a vote when they have no skin in the game IMO.
antrin may well bang the drum on this but honestly I can't see any justification in him getting a say in our country's future.

Does that include foreign citizens being allowed a vote on Scotland’s future, but not Scots who are based overseas or even based in England?
  10. Jordan Jones on loan maybe?? Be a great addition if it was but Killie more likely perhaps If let out on loan. Rangers probably looking for permanent.

Think he let in bad terms after declaring his undying love for SEVCO and his WATP comment. I don’t believe too many Killie fans would want him back.
  11. Looked to me like Shaugnessy clearly played the ball first and momentum did the rest. No way a red card. Draper's disgraceful antics alongside his greeting team mates allowed showboat Collum to take centre stage.

I didn’t think it was a red card for the tackle. Was it maybe something said during the handbags that followed?
  12. Aye after reading Mondays newspapers (thanks to being a new member of the illuminati) it will be 1-1.

Sun Report - "Thor rescues buddies with a thunderbolt from the blue"
Record - "Big hammer blow to rangers title chance after Thor's thunderous strike"
The Bears Den - "Lucky St Boo should have been 4-0 down by halftime. Going to be having a word with Dallas and fellow tory Douglas Ross next time I see them at the lodge."

It’ll be interesting to see how SEVCO perform without the 50,000 behind them.
  13. Does anyone on here work with the SQA?
I've just heard through my daughter of one person who scored an A in her prelim and was awarded a D and scores of people talking about being downgraded from C to an outright fail in many subjects.
This is making me very suspicious indeed and I would be interested in knowing whether a computer algorithm was used to assign grade adjustments in Scotland. This has all the hallmarks of the blanket use of a "magic algorithm".

I’ve heard a few reports of kids being downgraded, against the recommendations of the teachers. If this is correct then someone needs their arse felt. This is people’s futures being jeopardised.
  14. 4,200 Covid deaths in England to be wiped off the death toll.
As I’ve been pointing out, down in England they’ve been overinflating the the Covid deaths while up here in Scotland, they’ve been trying to conceal the true figures.
Thankfully we had the weekly excess deaths mortality reports from the ONS and NRS to get the true picture.
    https://metro.co.uk/2020/08/07/nearly-4200-deaths-wiped-official-statistics-due-counting-error-13094465/amp/

I’d be very interested in the actual figures for those unfortunates that actually died from COVID, not the figures including those that are “linked” to COVID (cold, flu, asthma, torn sock etc) that conveniently had COD as COVID on the death certificate.
  15. You have concluded zero people have been saved by a lockdown, not one, there isn't a single person alive today that wouldn't have been alive if there had been absolutely no lockdown. You've held a negative view from day one on the lockdown and you admitting there "wasn't enough evidence" also means you have to accept there wasn't "enough evidence" to conclude the lockdown was the wrong call.
There would have had to be evidence in early March that was 100% conclusive a lockdown wasn't right, that's completely unfounded. You just didn't want your summer impacted.
The evidence is not all in, the pandemic is not over and lockdown has saved lives. Expert advice is still on the side of lockdown as Aberdeen proves. You have yet again been shown that the current state points to you being wrong.

I tend to agree that lockdown saved lives. My wee mother is in a care home that didn’t have one case. They had dedicated staff, not those that would work between 2 or 3 homes. So I’d say lives were saved.
However. I wonder how many folk have died due to not getting the hospital treatment they required, cancer patients as an example.
How many people were/are effected mentally and how many suicides can be attributed to lockdown, self isolation, job loss, financial strains etc. Maybe if the pop up hospitals had actually been used then maybe some non COVID patients would still be alive if they had their hospital treatment?

    Just my tuppence worth.
