So why was he given a 3 year deal? He was totally unproven.
-
If that's meant for cheesey, its a load of pish, His dad Bryan doesn't offer the contracts, and hes there on merit, Last half of last season was our best player.
Did he not get a 3 year deal when he came from Queens?
-
Very true, but do we just stand by forever ? this has been dragging on for ages.It would be nice to sign someone on a three year deal ,or have those days gone for us ?
Yup, unless yer old man's a director...
-
Definitely miles behind everyone else this year, we shouldn't be falling behind these teams. Hearts are still weaker though. 11th for us I'd bet
-
Webster would be decent. Better than any centre half we have. Would love to see him and McGregor at the back as I think Webster needs someone beside him with an extra yard of pace
-
I disagree, and, in any event, I struggle to think how the term 'total liability' couldbe construed as anything other than pejorative.
Fair enough.
-
You referred to him as a 'total liability'.
That's a piss-poor way to describe the guy.
Yes, in regards to his current footballing ability...
-
David van Zanten is a St. Mirren legend.
Yeah, at 31 he's probably not as good as he once was, but he's been a brilliant servant to the club over two spells and has certainly turned in more good performances than bad in both spells with us. He's been consistent over the piece, has never, ever been a wage thief or a mercenary (no-one really grudged him the chance of what was at the time, a step up to Hibs), has contributed greatly to numerous successful relegation battles, a league win and two cup wins, and has never shirked away or taken the huff when things aren't going his way. Through all the shite and nonsense of attitudes and mouthy f**kers who have played for us, he's never been a name which has come up as a trouble maker or a shit stirrer. I have nothing but respect for the guy.
Spot on. The only point I'm making is I don't think he's good enough at this level anymore.
-
No ones saying he isn't a legend or a good guy.
He's just not very good at football anymore FFS, it happens to every player.
-
DVZ is a legend and he is in the hall of fame.
We should remember that and give him some f**ken respect.
This is not the way to speak about a man who has given his all for the club.
What by saying he's not good enough. Truth hurts then.. You're right he is a legend. But he isn't the player he was. Clearly he isn't good enough now
-
He's probably the most comfortable on the ball of all our defenders and is still reasonable going forwards. Defensively he's ok, but seems to be the most gaff prone.
Disagree. He is woeful defensively especially, stands off his player far too much and gets caught out of position far to often for a full back. He puts in the odd decent cross that's about it.
-
Shocked to read the continued abuse directed towards Van Zanten.
I've always thought he was decent and he certainly doesn't warrant the bad mouthing.
The reason we let in so many goals isn't that we don't have good defenders. Its the managers tactics!
Van Zanten is past it as mentioned. He was a good players now he's just not.
Total liability.
-
Van Zanten would struggle to get into any first division side never mind SPFL. But we'll play him anyway as he's under contract
-
I agree we'd be better without Harkins tbh. No defensive work rate whatsoever. He was signed as Gowsers replacement, there's just no way we can accommodate both in their best positions at the same time.
McGregor defensive midfield is a shout, he could be a real revelation there.
-
Newton and McGinn to re-ignite their dynamic partnership in the middle of the park. Pleasing stuff indeed. Great midfield we have, pity the defence and goalkeeper is going to cost us. Far too leaky at the back.
-
Got rid off? We wanted him to extend his contract he never wanted to. End of discussion
Is it? We obviously didn't offer him first team football. Which is a massive mistake if we are going with Van Zanten dor this season, if we offered MCginn first team football it would have sorted that position for a good few years to come.
Id have left as well if I had to play second fiddle to van Zanten and Barron.
-
We should have gave him first team football.
-
We should never have got rid of Paul McGinn, rave reviews for Dumbarton and other 1st division fans.
-
The fans have every right to voice concern. Tbh some take it too far acting like wankers while doing so.

Lack of budget my arse, absolute penny pinching on the hope Hearts finish down there. We made good money through tv and cup competitions last season and reduced the wage bill letting players go. Not Danny's fault IMO. The board have gave him f**kall this year.

Can't wait.
Wold love us to wear the yellow tomorrow as well.

Magic, really paying dividends with the young players we are starting to produce like McLean, McGinn especially and others like Reilly and Naismith. Things can only get better for us the longer we stay ahead in terms of facilities than other similar clubs.
