  1. Yeah we knew about them.

Someone who had worked out there brought it to the attention of our SMFC, and it made the rounds on here for a while. Indeed, we actually had the Ghana side's chairman and some first team players over here for a PotY night some years back. Not long after that a link was more formally established as we sent out a set of first team kits in the proper B&W stripes, as their club colours had been (shockingly) green & gold before! I note from the article that they've only been using B&W as an away kit though...and I don't think anyone had heard about the name change, which are both a tad disappointing.

As for them being bottom of the league...iirc, they had only just been promoted to the top flight this season so it's perhaps no surprise.

As for why the name was used - Ghana seems to have a lot of clubs which ape the name of famous sides in Europe, which may explain the lack of a M*rt*n there..... wink.gif

Remember that night well! Abercorn bowling club

  2. As much as I like TR, He's done nothing in the u20 team to justify his place in that team let alone the first team, TR knows this is the season he has to shine otherwise he wont be offered a new contract at the end of the season, I really hope he has a great season, And earns himself a new contract

I don't doubt your judgement Gary as i know you are regular at the unders games.

I think he knows more than anyone that its make or break this season as he is approaching an age where you can no longer carry the tag of 'potential'. Hopefully he gets a good pre-season under his belt.

  3. We cant run with anything less than 4 strikers in the squad. I believe TC will give more game time to the youngsters and do more rotation during matches. Both reilly and marwood can deputise in midfield too if needed to.

I think some people are too critical on some players. Reilly has barely kicked a ball in the first team, though is deemed not good enough. A few sub appearances and a couple of starts isnt sufficient time for his development. Give him gametime and then judge him.

I would rather have a Thomas Reilly than an overpaid journeyman picked up multiple times a young developing players wage.

  4. According to the PDE Tommy mentions the players on trial if good enough will sign them just before the Morton game. He says we will add two more players to the squad so that will be the 2 on trial. That's it by the sounds of things. Now let the knicker wetter posts begin !

I think in terms of players to be offered contracts then there may be 2 places available. Above that, it wouldnt surprise me if there is at least one more space other than they two available for a loan signing.

  5. Cheesy is always the one that gets picked on.

The lad is un-recognisable from the jittery player we got back from Queen of the South.

He very rarely makes a mistake but when he does he gets absolute dogs abuse for it.

Darren McGregor made plenty of mistakes at the back yet was hardly ever criticised.

Can't understand why he still cops so much abuse from sections of the support. Very decent, very capable player IMO.

Its disgusting some of the abuse that is directed his way on here. After Potter left the boo boys needed a new target and unfortunately Cheesey is the man taking it.

I totally agree that Mcgregor was seen as some kind of golden boy who never put a foot wrong by the same type.

  6. If this is the third best set up in the country who are the two sides with a better youth system? What is the measure being used to make such a claim? And is it actually performing better than some clubs at Juvenile level - like this one for example?

Its something like the only grade 5 facilities in scotland with celtic and the zombies having grade 6 facilities.
  7. he is absolutley pish..one of the worst youngsters i have ever watched ay saints...people need to be realistic...this lad will never ever make it as a footballer...

The fact he is still at the club speaks volumes of how the coaching staff rate him. U do not see him on a day to day basis in training to judge how good he is. If im being honest he has hardly been given enough game time to make an impact.

  8. Think we need to do better than cheesy for 1st choice center back if we want to avoid another relegation battle. Good for back up but if he's our best choice for cb next season we will be shipping a lot of goals

We had one of our best defensive finishes last season. We failed to score enough.

  9. Play Gowser in the middle and Harkins on the bench more than likely, or the other way around. To be fair to them, Harkins always seems to work at Dundee for some reason, maybe Gowser for them will be like Harkins was for us.

Both are prone to throwing a huff if not selected in starting lineup.

Gowser knows Hartley from his playing days at Celtic, though will be interesting to see how he works his discipline under a new manager and if the move from Airdrie will pan out.

  10. The other clubs can field a team at this current moment though, we can't! That's why we should be signing players. A football club with 1 centre half and 1 striker heading into July is just asking for trouble! We've got some amount of players to sign and get them familiarised with the club, their teammates etc and all in just a couple of weeks! Madness

Aye but pre-season doesnt start till middle of next week.

  11. The reason he was not offered a new deal in Perth was so the club could secure Steven May the very same reason St.Mirren never offered Mcgowan a new contract so they can offer Kenny McClean a better one!.

I think you will find the reason he is no longer at the fakes is because he refused to answer the managers phonecalls at the end of season. Tommy Wright said that he spoke to him in January about his future and Nigel said he would wait till end of season to sort it. As soon as the season finished, he buggered off to Holland and let his phone ring out when Wright tried to get ahold of him to discuss a contract. Quite rightly so, the manager withdrew any contract offer on the table.

He was looking for 3 times his wage to stay on with us last time, something that the fakes were willing to match.

Hes a journeyman who doesnt like to hang about and spits the dummy when he doesnt have a run in the team.
