It is great if we can get a prolific goal scorer.

However, who is going to provide the service?

I know this is a bit negative and in recent games we have actually created more chances than the average in previously in games, but I think we need something special in midfield too. Someone who can spot a run and lay on an inch perfect pass through the defence and pitch in with goals himself. (Hammill can a bit, P McGinn can hit in a percentage of his crosses and Magennis is a great individual, however, we need better players in a number of positions. The quality needs improving. better players are more consistent.

I speculate that we will offload 6 players and bring in at least 4 in January. Three of which will star for us over the remainder of the season and we will survive to build better for next year. Oh and Oran will go on to be a legend with us.

(All this with no alcohol or drugs man)

I think we must be looking closer to 10 out the door. I couldn't pick 10 myself that look obvious, maybe half of that, though if OK wants to trim his squad to 21/22, he will have to get rid of that many if he wants to bring in his own players and be left with  a squad of 21/22.

I would have kept Stellios as cover or both full backs , and a great option to have on the bench , when he comes of the bench he gives the crowd a lift , which potentially gives the rest of the team a lift and ups their game .

Possibiility he grew frustrated at lack of game time last season as much as him being released. It doesn't seem to have worked out for him in Dingwall either this season.

First season, i'd have said a few clubs would have been sniffing around him last summer, though his lack of game time last season never put him in the shop window.  I'm not sure if he is the right standard for this level. As much as i liked him, his performance against premier opposition in Aberdeen in the cup was a horror show.

Just as a matter of interest, how many coaches / assistants did JR have ?

Not sure, though Jack had requested additional coaching staff going into this season before he left.  Whether Gus' role was thought of back then too or was created off the back of Stubbs' disaster period i am unsure, though it would probably make more sense it was due to the latter with his transfer dealings.

So we now have, an U21 coach with staff, a goalkeeping coach, a fitness coach, a first team coach, an assistant manager, a manager and a technical director.

We really need coach coach to look after the team bus.

The only additional role created here is Gus' , which will become valuable  over time in how the club now operate with any incoming players. Nicholl is effectively filling Darren Jacksons role.

It was mentioned when he signed that there is an 'option' for another 6 months.

Sadly I've no idea what the terms of that option are.

If i remember correctly, AH said that he wanted to push himself to earn a longer deal through performances, hence the short term. I am not sure if he was offered till end of season originally on that basis.

  6. I'd push the boat out to get him till at least the end of the season.  He was a magnificent player playing at a very good level down south. I see him as a bit of a coup for us.

If he's enjoying his time with us and not using us as a shop window, lets trying and get him a little longer. Could turn out to be our Lewis Morgan this year.

    High horse ?

    Can't help yourself.

Anyway , slash salaries to part time.

Slash admission fees to a maximum £10.

All other expenses can be helped with all the other income that the Club receives.

    Stadium sponsorship.

    Player sponsorship

    Catering

    Hospitality

    Kit Sponsorship

    Shop

Advertising on many things, inside and outside the Stadium.

Money raised via SMISA, FANS COUNCIL, SUPPORTERS BAR. Etc.

    UEFA money

    TELEVISION MONEY

    RADIO MONEY

And probably a few more areas of income.

As I said yesterday, most Clubs could reduce salaries and let all fans, or even just children in the Stadium for free.

    We're up to £27 now.

Years ago it was easy to go to another match, say at Cappielow or Firhill if our game was postponed.

Wouldn't do it now. No way anybody would pay £20 plus to watch a Match where the Saints weren't playing.

Tell all 40 Clubs, maximum price will be £10.

Give them 3 or 4 years to prepare for the upheaval.

4 years on the new era will begin.

    The Beautiful Game saved.

I know this is your dream Shull, though that's all it will be i'm afraid.  Under part-time football, the product on the park would be lesser , the drop in admission price wouldn't make a difference to increasing the crowds attendance if the product is not on the park. You only need to look at attendances we have had against the smaller clubs and colt teams in cup competition.

Stadium sponsorship -   whos going to invest in a tinpot part-time league?

Hospitality -  whos going to invest in a tinpot part-time league?

Kit Sponsorship -  whos going to invest in a tinpot part-time league?

Advertising on many things, inside and outside the Stadium. - whos going to invest in a tinpot part-time league?

TV Money  - There would be no TV money, BBC ALBA at best.

I am in agreement that the league is looking a lot more competitive this season and that is down to more investment and better quality arriving up here.

Wonder if this talk of him "retiring" is an attempt to weasel out of paying a transfer fee?

    Would imagine so with Sunderland.

I think they would also need to wait till January if he was registered as player due to transfer windows.

Sign him as a gk coach, January come out of retirement and act as 3rd/4th choice backup.

Very true thanks and I have missed out McPherson etc in other areas. Getting there.

I know games aren't won on a piece of paper, though the options we have upfront now are fairly strong and with a bit of confidence installed, i believe we can start creating chances for these guys to put away.

  10. 2 minutes ago, St.Ricky said:

I know that. i have watched him play there. A real prospect. My concern isn't his talent. I would just like to see the lad get increasing amounts of game time before settling in what is probably the most physically demanding of positions. Would he be out of place there now? I don't think so but would like to see him nurtured for a bit longer. As other posters are saying..others have done it so the old adage "if your'e good enough, your'e old enough" seems to be the popular vote.

On selection issues. My take is that a battle for each place is the ideal position to be in. It looks like OK now has at least 3 people battling for the Centre Back  Slots (Baird, Ferdinand and Jones) and at least 2 at the left back position. Midfield looks to be more competitive too and Magennis should be back soon to add to that. Given that Eckersley and MacKenzie shouldn't be too long before they are back fighting for selection. Up front we now have Jackson, Mullen, Hammil and Cooke. Much healthier.

And Cammy Smith to add to that healthier front line  even though we are struggling to find the back of the net,

  11. 20 minutes ago, St.Ricky said:

I'm not sure of Erhahon in midfield.  He has the talent. No question of that but he might need more first team action before stepping in there. It's good to have selection problems of the best kind.

John McGinn, Mallan , Maclean and McAllister have all stepped up and played in our midfield from a young age, I can't see why Erhahon couldn't do the same.

I never seen the game on Saturday due to family commitments, though from what i hear Erhahon played great and i would imagine if it was from a defensive perspective, he could bring those battling qualities in to midfield if needed.

St. Johnstone also have the benefit of McDairmid Park generating a lot of cash from conferences & functions.

For Livi its as much about stability of style as squad - we played expansive football last season and couldn't have gone toe2toe with the bigger teams (in both senses) in this division & JR realized this. The summer's combination of events have left us unprepared in terms of players and I still think the style for a Bottom 6 campaign which is all this season could have ever been realistically. We need to copy Hamilton/Livi & try to shitfest our way to survival this season.

C'mon Oran its still not too late!

Certainly a long road ahead, with plenty of time to gather momentum and keep the teams around us close.

Watched Saturday's game on the telly, just couldn't muster the will for the six hour round trip, rain, bigot infestation and the eventual final outcome. What did hit me between the ears though was the programme on sky before the game 'SPFL Matters' where Boyd and Commons were interviewing big Anton.

The as you would expect they were on about being in Rio's shadow, playing in the EPL etc, but big Anton put them firmly in their place when they did eventually get onto talking about St Mirren. They asked him something like 'how frustrating/demoralising is i, when your teammates just arent up to it?' He chopped them down straight away by saying very clearly 'we are all frustrated, but at the business end of the season, when there are others round about us, WE WILL stay up!'

having seen how Erhahon, Jones, Edwards, etc got on, I Believe Anton.... i think despite the now monotonous, feeling sorry for yourself, excuse ridden drivel being peddled by some about 'Stubbs Duds'. We already have the players, quality, desire and passion in the squad to remain in this league, and that will start this weekend in Dundee. The squad can go there with their heads held high to get a win and push Dundee down below the surface.

We will start to claw our way back in Dundee, it will be a long, bitter hard fought battle till May, but I believe Anton will lead us through it, and show his qualities in leadership, professionalism and team work. Youre not going to hear him whingeing about his teammates! A lesson a few others should take!

Here's hoping we get the result we are looking for on Saturday which could be the shot in the arm we desperately need. certainly positives to take from Saturday's performance.

How can 2 teams who are above us in the league, manage to out perform us with a joint fan base of 1400 (yesterday’s attendance Hamilton v Livingston)

Livingston's answer is stability. They never dismantled a promotion winning squad  and instead added to areas that needed strengthened. They have stuck to their system of making themselves hard to beat.

Hamilton I agree have been punching for some time now, though again, not any major changes, though I am not sure if they have the quality to pull away from the relegation zone this season.

The morale impact post Dundee this Saturday will either kick start our season and give the players much needed belief IF we win.

I have heard the McGinn injury story from various sources , including a couple who have been reliable with info in the past. I’m led to believe he has been playing with an underlying injury which is being treated but needs surgery and a spell out to fix.
If this is true, I would rather we do it now rather than playing and risk further injury, as it is now, he appears to be losing fitness which does none of the parties any favours.
If he is not injured, then I’m at a loss to explain why his performances have dropped and perhaps a spell out might help him regain focus , fitness and appetite.

Agree. We seen the impact he made when he arrived last January for the remainder of the season.  Similar circumstances with a fully fit captain in the run in would be more beneficial. He is clearly struggling.

  16. 18 hours ago, Ethan said:

Apparently Kepkawa was to be given a full pre season again to get him fit. Heaton is warming the bench but I hear there is a player in there. I would loan him to Alloa for the rest of the season. Cooke and King can move on.

Kpekawa fetched a transfer fee of £500k only a couple of years ago.  Still a lot of money to pay down south, with potential obviously seen. Possibly just needs the right gaffer and coaches to get him in the right shape.

Heaton was been monitored by English championship teams prior to coming to us and I am sure Heaton said there was genuine interest though he jumped at the chance to come up here to get first team football.

Get these two guys match fit and it could actually work out that they give us really good options at the back.

  17. 1 minute ago, Maboza said:

Jones leaving would clear out the last of the loanees if it seems that Hodson and Edwards have a part to play and suggestions are that Willock may stay.

That just leaves us Kpekawa, King, Cooke and possibly Heaton to try and move on.

I still have a bit of blind hope that there could be a player to be developed in Heaton.

I think Heaton has to be kept on and developed  considering we have invested so much in him.

If he is not ready to compete for first team, we need to loan him out to a decent level.

I am unsure the status of the other three, whether they are unfit, injured or just not deemed good enough. Kpekawa certainly looked okay when he first arrived though fell away and looked unfit. Cooke hasn't had a sniff and King barely had time to show if he has what it takes.

Again, its the duty of a RESPONSIBLE employer to consider the welfare of all its employees. It is first and foremost the employers responsibility. They're the body who could be held to account for failing in their responsibilities.

on top of that this highlights a huge contradiction in the chairmans statements surrounding the high profile, foriegn applicants for  the job in the summer. If you recall Scott declared it was "Unrealistic" to consider the likes of Guti and Kluivert because of the upheaval they, and their family would have to go through all moving to be near the place of employment. Obviously declaring that the club wouldn't countenance an applicant not fully committing to the club, the community etc...

move on three months and thats all seems to have gone by the way, as Oran has been employed in Paisley, but lives (to all intensive purposes)near Coleraine!

if we continue to endure tough results, but look to build for the future are you happy the manager could decide its not worth the separation, heartache and loneliness anymore and return home? Havent the club learned anything about supporting the person under the greatest daily pressure at the club ffs! How many young managers have to fail before they get that they have serious responsibilities to honour?

OK mentioned his wife has a really good job and the school term hasn't long started so i would imagine they would want to get the kids settled in their school and potentially think about it next summer at the earliest.

But it was Stubbs who preferred most of these players to Heaton and he didn't have a clue. Yes. OK brought in Ferdinand, but Heaton is currently injured and not available for selection.

Have to agree. It's unfair that some are already writing off Heaton and Cooke with us, despite only seeing a short run out of them.

Players have to adapt to a different level and some react quicker than others. Heaton has been injured and from what i believe not up to speed in terms of fitness prior to this. Cooke has also been injured and possibly finding it a little difficult to get up to speed.

We are so short in numbers due to injuries now. No disrespect to Kirkpatrick, though off the back of last season, I didn't think he would be anywhere near the team this season. Is that possibly down to hard work or us being down to short numbers in midfield now?

Great words from Tony and TBF to TF , he is right, Its been some journey since Gordon came in...................... now its about actions ...............

I sincerely hope we do give Oran time, and on here we also need to play a part, as we are all fans ..................

For us that remember the early mid  80s, Saints were never in contention for the title but Europe yes, always in contention for the cup.

What's exactly changed ?  The OF still had more fans and more money, Dons, Hearts  and Hibs were strong and it was a 10 team league not 12.....

Who actually has far higher budgets than us ? Apart from the above......

It needs to start somewhere and to be fair it did start under Jack and this BOD......

If what Tony says is what the BOD see then I am well over a large blip, and even with some dodgy singings I still reckon we can compete in this league

    Great post sir
