I would imagine that when we were given the go ahead to start back training that someone would have sat the players down (socially distanced😃) and explained what they can and cannot do. Why then are we as a club in so many breaches of things that are/were off limits, it is staggering to believe that a Professional football club can get so many things wrong. Also what is more worrying that it looks like nobody (covid officer, manager, coaches, doctors, physio, ceo, chairman...delete as appropriate) had the foresight to put a stop to it.

I look forward to top four Tony's comments or even better a statement from the Chairman (do we still have one?)

I would hope that the appointment of the ex police and the safety man, means that the players are now managing that extremely difficult task of socially distancing on the bus and while being fed?

They are probably all too busy planning the christmas party.

    I think we have?

We've not been winning games but we've been equal to the better side, especially in the last few games.

Covid call off's certainly were in our favour in one game against the Czechs, but we've had a few call off's ourselves?

I respectively disagree, eternal bottom feeders if we stay in this level of countries.

While I see your point against Belgium, many countries better than us have been thumped by them, including England and currently Denmark.

That was also some time ago and we have improved.

Yes we have improved but not dramatically. Better shape and organisation, Dykes adds a line leading front man, but really only a few players in our squad have the technical ability to take it up a notch. I suppose the Euros's will confirm who is right. Would love be wrong but don't think I will be. Just looking to enjoying it without any expectations.

The only way to improve is to play better teams.

Playing the current level will not, IMO, see us improve.

It's like wanting St Mirren to always be in the Championship, not a way to improve.

It is different is we were dominating most games which hasn't been the case. We are going to the euros due to a bit of luck and covid call off's. Until we have a consistent improvement in performances then prefer to be where we are. The belgium game was a prime example. It was like Saints v the old firm. Don't think it does much for confidence, changes our system and doesn't help trying to bring other players through who could potentially benefit the team in the future.

  4. In all honesty I wouldn't be gutted not moving into group A in Nations League. Think we are currently at our level just now and could do without seeing us getting hammered by better teams at the top level. The euros will be good but not expecting much from us. Still a lot of work to be done to get us to the next level which we are a fair bit away from just now

I do not want JG to go, but I am baffled by his substitutions tonight.

We should have been out of sight by HT, so why make the changes he did, when he did ?

Connolly has to start the next game.

If you put Erwin on, don’t take off the guy who is crossing the ball.

Need to win well on Saturday to qualify. A draw, even with a win on pens, is unlikely to allow us to progress.

    Ultimately very disappointed.

How do you figure that one out? A win on penalties puts us through top of the group. Should win without if Goodie muck it up too much.

Hey!  I might have been one of those other 'few kids crying'!:(

If you were then GIRFUY. 😀 Had a saints scarf on that day as was going down to a game. I am sure we won that day as well. So if you weren't going to the game and being steam rolled into attending a wedding then serves you right. If it makes you feel any better the pie I bought with some of my earnings was rotten. Did take it back up though and swapped it for a mars bar and a pack of crisps. Strange how I can hardly remember much as a kid but that day seems like yesterday. If it was yesterday though I would have taken a bigger umbrella.

When I lived in the old Wardrop Street ( I am always hoping one day someone will produce a photo of the old tenements) I used to go up to the church at weekends and scramble for the bowl money.  One day I got 1/9d!  What a day that was!

I remember passing Stow Brae kirk when I was a kid. It was raining and i had a little umbrella. I was just passing by when the window of the car started to go down and I realised that a scramble was about to happen. A bit of quick thinking and i turned the brolly upside down and caught most of the money thrown out of the window before closing it and taking off. Could hear a few kids crying in the background as I left. Best 30 secs earnings i probably ever had.

Regardless of how disappointing much of our play is this season there is no way we should get rid of Jim. I have no doubt he is giving it 100% and is St Mirren minded. We have had too many managers in recent years and there are still a load of imposters out there looking for work.We need to stick with it and hope that Jim has enough about him to keep us in the top flight and give us a good cup run.

I hate to say it but he has had enough games to figure out a formation and players that work and then fecks about with it again. He seems incredibly stubborn which will do him no favours. I really don't want another manager to come in but he seems to miss the glaring obvious with regards to some players and don't think he has what it takes at this level which surprises me as he talks well , seems to understand the game but then makes so many management errors which have cost us points. Feck me we would be as well having fan management by poll as well as fan ownership. Could you imagine having votes on bringing on subs etc at certain times throughout the game. it would be hilarious but would probably still work out better as long as we knew if certain players had fitness issues. Interactive fan ownership is the way forward.  Paisley panda can approve the subs with the linesman. Would make it a bit more interesting, interactive and fun at least. St Mirren football manager 2022. Surely can't be any worse than some of our previous managers efforts. 😉

Tbf I don’t think there’s any chance of us signing a striker, we have 4 on the books already. A left back seems more likely and maybe a creative midfielder but doubt we’re shopping for a striker

Ok can we sign a goal scorer then instead.

    Very strange comment.

You think Cammy would have been effective on the wing?

    Apples and oranges sir.

I would have started Cammy for sure...
    Ahead of McCarthy.

I guess Goodie was just being a bit more adventurous and positive than me.

I'm never going to criticise him for that.

Morias wasn't really on the wing, Playing more of a right sided midfielder considering the opposition. Would have preferred a midfielder who can attack, rather than a forward who doesn't or defend very well either.  Runs about, but bit of a headless chicken. Reminds me of Alex Bone.

The way we play I think the wingers are pretty essential (i'd imagine Goodwin agrees, when was the last time we had 4 pacey wingers on the books at once?).

If we are absorbing pressure, going direct and not really utilising a fullback overlap we need as a bare minimum:

A - striker on the park suited to playing the battering ram and holding the ball for 90 minutes

B - Options down the flanks to release pressure

mcallister and morias offer no relief of pressure when flynn is back great and connolly on the left of midfield poss in 451 but morais and mcallister not worth the space just now
