  1. Finishing 10th in the league and not being knocked out of the Cup by a lower league team - Danny Lennon hasn't satisfied both parts of my modest criteria in any of his four season in charge. I then qualified this by saying that failing in one part could be excused if we did better in the other.

Feel free to continue exposing your ignorance if you wish - if there's one thing worse than a pedant it's a piss poor pedant. Thanks.

Can't believe you're still trying to crawl out of this with any credibility, you've backtracked so much you don't even make sense.

But let me try and understand the point you're making here,

    Using your confused logic,

If we get knocked out both cups at the earliest opportunity against spl teams then finish 10th in the league then you regard that as a better season than winning the cup?

I don't think you even know what your on about

  2. You dropped the word very between your two posts - so to repeat myself no finishing 8th in the league & losing to Ayr in the cup does not count as a very successful season only a moderately successful one as I've already said, again as I've already said winning a major trophy counts as one of our best seasons ever but the longer Lenon's tenure continues the more the League Cup win becomes the exception and not the rule.

I know what I said but feel free to continue with your attempts to cloud the matter.

Glad you can admit when you're wrong.

First of all Danny hasn't lived up to your standards in all seasons and now you're admitting the last two have indeed been successful in your eyes. Thanks

  3. and how the BbC hate us as well ( there was enough quality from Djemba Djemba to show a clip of , but they chose to show the bad bits.

    Everyone hates us

Hoping Danny can learn to wind a few managers up , and start speaking up for the wonderful fans who follow the Saints , otherwise refs will continue to give us nothing

Enough of this, you sound like an old firm fan

  4. You seem to have missed the word and which I've highlighted again in red.

2011/12 was moderately successful - a good league position having to be balanced against being put out of the League Cup by a part time team.

Last season was one of the best in our history winning a major trophy, although it was alarming that the only team we finished above in the league was an underprepared Dundee.

This season we've been put out of the League Cup by a Division 1 team and without the safety net of a Hearts youth team we would be probably not be in our current lofty 9th place.

Thank you for highlighting the word and in red, however I did read your full post and took note of the word and

I was referring to the next line

obviously you can excuse falling short in the cups if you do better in the league and vice versa

So by your standard finishing 8th was a successful season and winning the cup was a successful season.

  5. Also, why not simply use one alias? It's easier for the rest of us us to kept track of your shite.

That's right if I don't agree with you I must not be real!

Good response, it exposes you as a goon which isn't great for your argument.

the mods can confirm this is my one and only account.

  6. My expectations of a St. Mirren manager are 10th in the league and not being put out of the cups by lower league opposition - obviously you can excuse falling short in the cups if you do better in the league and vice versa, nobody would trade seventh in the league for last seasons cup win, but Lennon has come up short in this modest criteria in each of his four seasons in charge - it will take something exceptional between now and the end of the season to earn him a new contract.

    ^^

The last two seasons were very successful by your standards then?

  7. This is the sort of comment that really gets under my skin. I'm not advocating we should be in the top 6 every year. Every so often would be nice, like every other team that's spent any reasonable time in the top flight. Also, it would be nice to avoid the battle for the drop almost every year. I don't believe those are unrealistic expectations given a club of our size.

For the majority of Lennon's tenure we've needed a strong centre back and some genuine width and pace. In the final window, before his contract runs out, he brings in some width but, after letting a centre back go, still hasn't addressed the most glaring need in the team.

The football at the start of his tenure was really good at times and he was to be applauded for that but in the last year we've been dire. 8 wins since the Cup Final in all competitions? That is f**king horrible whatever budget you're working to and I feel there must be someone out there who could do better and that's why his time is up IMO.

Since Danny assembled his team we haven't been involved in any relegation battles, we've been comfortable. Finishing in our highest league finish then last season winning the cup and avoiding relegation easily.

I agree 8 wins since the cup final doesn't read well but when you look at our history St mirren in the top flight tend to average around 10 wins a season so we are still on course for an above average finish. Considering we still have all the bottom 6 fixtures to play.

I don't agree with the need of a centre back, I think macausland and mcgregor are of good spl standard and with back up in Naismith and Goodwin I feel back up centre back would be a waste of money.

I'm sure I'm wasting my time regardless, I remember this forum was wanting DL sacked the season we finished 8th as people were upset there was no relegation battle and nothing to play for

  8. 7 pages of pure pish. Be careful what you wish for, we are not a big team. We budget every year to avoid the drop, DL has done that every season, and won a cup.

Those of you saying we should be in the top 6 , at the expense of who? Which top 6 team do we have a better squad than?

  9. It would have been perfect if we had aquired a centre back or two.

Still a good group of signings but no balance as we have IMO a defence that is on par with a mid table 1st division team and the rest looks spl standard.

It's funny how differently two supporters watching the same games can see things, IMO Darren mcgregor is one of the best centre backs in scotland

  10. We can still acquire free agents but I am disappointed to say the least. We are struggling and during this window we have cut our numbers.Out - Barron, Mair, Grainger, Cornell, Dillon, Caprice, Harkins In - Wylde, Magennis, Campbell, You can argue Kello & Newton signed up again but no good enough. We are surely destined for playoffs unless we keep everyone fit. I for one and as a concerned season ticket holder would like an explanation of future ambitions from the BOD & manager. It looks suspicious the BOD are wanting out and are cutting costs and the manager is probably leaving us at the end of his contract. Who is to blame for the shambles of signings we have had since the end of last season? Is McAusland only getting a game because his father as his recent performances have been below acceptable levels. Why are we tightening our belts when we should be looking to stay in the league? Are we cutting the playing budget in case we get relegated?Answers please someone

I don't mean to single you out dave but you were the first one I came across, the same 10-15 people were going mental about letting go of people like Danny grainger. I hope now you all realise our manager knows much much more about how to run a football club than any of you.

    Players in -

Adam Campbell - future newcastle and England star

Connor Newton - cup winning hero

Kello - arguably the best spl goalkeeper when with hearts

Greg Wylde - regular for the team formally known as rangers

Magennis - decent enough spfl player

Djemba djemba - ex man utd, champions league and World Cup experience, African cup of nations winner

Is this the most successful January transfer window ever? I certainly can't think of any better.

  11. Dont know what to make of this. Lennon states at the press conference that he will provide additional defensive midfield cover allowing attacking players to get forward but he will have to drop an attacking player to accommodate Dj-Dj (Im assuming he is to be played in tandem with Goodwin rather than instead of). Yes we could do with more goals and cover for or an alternative to Goodwin but I have never attributed our lack of goals to creative players being forced to defend. Again not a squeak about our honking defensive record its as if Danny is oblivious to the goals we concede and thinks more goals will be the answer. I hope this works out I really do but it's right out left field.

I think your football knowledge is slightly lacking here friend, the 4-2-3-1 formation is very popular with some of Europes elite. With the 2 quality holding midfielders it gives all 4 attacking players a lot of freedom but also gives huge protection to the back 4.

This is a sensational signing just be happy

  12. I'm thinking if we go down might not be a bad thing new manager fresh ideas! Hopefully and enjoying going to see saints again potential derby back and full houses instead of same guff every season thinking 10th or 11th is good enough I for one don't think would be end of the world as far as I can work out only McGinn Kelly Naismith Wylde Reilly and Harkins if he comes back are only players tied up for next season another massive summer ahead! Thoughts??

So 10th or 11th isn't good enough but first division football is? Solid logic.

  13. Our goals against doesn't back your theory.

Naismith and Kelly are far better as full backs. In Kelly's case our only left back.

Goodwin isn't a centre back and is far better in midfield.

To get the best from your squad, you need competition for places to keep them on their toes.

We have 2 centre backs who know they are playing every week as there's no one else

Goodwin was a centre back at celtic, played in defense for Hamilton too. Pretty sure he's stated publicly that his natural position is a centre back But I agree he is more suited to the holding role.

Within out budget we won't find better than what we have meaning we'd be wasting a portion of a clearly small budget on a back up centre half, I don't think it's necessary

  14. Still a waste of money and poor signings anyway you want to dress it up.

Still waiting for a centre half for about 3 years.

Where's the next batch of youngsters?

In seasons past we sent the probables out on loan to gain experience so they would be ready to come into the first team

I noticed we haven't got any out this season

The squad management is very poor this season

So you weren't happy with the signing of Danny Grainger? I think we all thought it was a good bit of business. Sometimes things don't work out, that's football.

Youth players won't come through every year due to the gap between u19's and u21's.

I've seen a lot of people saying we need a centre half, I don't think we do. Darren mcgregor is getting back to his best, I think he's one of the best centre backs in scotland when fully fit. Mcausland is still learning but has all the physical attributes. Another season I think he'll be fantastic. We have Goodwin, Naismith and Kelly who can all cover for injurys and suspension.

IMO a centre half would be a complete waste of money

  15. Some absolutely ridiculous comments on here by what seems to be the same 10-15 people.

The only player of note released was grainger. He wasn't good enough, non issue really.

Harkins was most likely signed as a replacement for gowser who ended up staying. Sent him on loan, non issue.

    Also

Danny Lennon would of known exactly how good the youngsters were before the season, it's not "by luck" they've came through.

  16. I've posted a list of reasons on here that's as long as my arm , you're a new member so you won't have seen them , unless you're yet another alias ?

Well I won't ask you to repost an arm full of reasons, unless you have small arms. But what I will ask is who would you bring in? And what do you think could have been done differently? Despite a lot of negativity I've seen by 15 or so forum users the history books will show DL as a very very successful st mirren manager

  17. Most fans don't comment on forums, it's a very very small number that do.

The people I sit around at the games feel DL should be given a new contract and I agree.

When was the last time we had youth players coming through the ranks like we do now? Before, we would sign journeymen and play hoof ball. It was painful to watch and made me dread Saturdays. Although it doesn't always work under DL at least we have excitement and good football at times.

We are also sitting 9th, 4 points off 7th

I don't know what more we can ask for with a club our size, until the club is sold and funds are made available changing the manager won't achieve anything
