  1. We're really up against two clashing clichés on this issue

    •  Over the 33 games whilst not always playing well or grinding out results (the last minute loser at Pittodrie back in October springs to mind) we did well enough to get to last Saturday with the situation in our hands.
    • To counter all this it often comes down to which team handles the pressure situations better and twice this season we've come up short, against Livi in the Cup where JG left them in their comfort zone too long and on Saturday where I wouldn't blame JG for the players ballsing up the marking at the crucial free kick.

  2. No, the worst situation is where we need 42 points to avoid 11th spot.

    7 St Mirren           40

    8 Dundee Utd     39 Win 1 = 42

    9 Motherwell       35 win 2 = 41

    10 Ross County   29 Win 4 = 41

    11Kilmarnock       28 Win 5 = 43

    12 Hamilton         27

    *******************

Accies games against Well & Utd. would be irrelevant in this scenario.

We currently have a 25 GD advantage over County but the ultimate, ultimate nightmare would be us needing to beat Accies on the final day to avoid a play-off spot. :death

Senseless comment from Stubbs but that apart he sounds thick.

I think he had been provoked prior to the game.

But yeah he responded just like yer average BAWA forumster - with class and dignity...:whistle

Does Stubbsy post on here and if so what is his alias?

We will have to learn to play two up front next season if we are to get the best out of Brophy.

Lumping high balls to Brophy won't help him. I really rate Tait but his crossing is atrocious. If we play one or two wee guys up top we should be playing it on the deck to the team's strengths.

Height isn't the only factor nowadays it's reading the game and getting into position first, that's how Accies got the vital free kick yesterday, first into position and let the big defender clatter into you. There is some merit in what you say but the allowed level of physicality is much reduced from what it was 20 years ago.

We do need a front pairing that compliment each other - FWIW I still prefer the old big guy/quick guy combo...

  5. Morning after and looking back on the season there's been more good memories (beating both cheeks) than bad but the bad ones (Livi s/f, yesterday's draw) have been gut-wrenching.

The Livi game I put mainly down to JG who left Livi in their comfort zone for too long but yesterday was just plain bad marking and the blame has got to be put on the players.

As for the rest of the season I expect us to finish 8th and would consider it a big disappointment if both Utd. & Well overtook us but the main games have got to be the two against Hamilton - especially the cup game, by hook or by crook we must win that one!

    Playing the man again eh?

Do you know any other way of having a discussion?

Playing the man again - absolute jibberish, from the self declared "Smartest man on the Forum" very disappointing. :1eye

Nice to see you & Sue forming a tag-team, I'm struggling to thing of a more suitable pairing --neither of you have mustered a relevant argument today!

    Tactics, set up and substitutions.

The glaringly obvious has been about all season.

    1) We can't defend a lead by becoming more defensive.

    2) Our defence are decent at clearing balls and general defending but not so great when being put under pressure plays.

    3) JDH is a decent player but would be be better playing in straight 4 along with McGrath. We have decent players who can play football but setting them up too defensively is an issue. The diamond worked at the start but grew predictable.

    4) Our attack is poor without dennis and brophy and general hold up play isn't great.

    5) The gaffer needs to go all out to win to become a winner. The best form of defence is attack or at least trying to keep the ball as far away from our goal as possible.

    6) We don't score goals from high cross balls and don't think we have any player who is decent at heading a ball towards goal.

    7) Better the wingers swap sides occasionally to cut in and get shots off.

I am not overly disappointed but more frustrated that Jim still hasn't learned our best way to play and to stick with it.

My prediction is eighth behind Utd.

Yet you’ve cheered on the middle class lockdown at the expense off-the working class from day 1

Its clear whose side you are really on 😉

Ain't nobody more middle class than you Cap'n - what's it like to hate yourself? 😉

....and be continuously wrong for 12 months? 😉

  9. Certainly shot ourselves in the foot this season, I think that if we'd handled the Covid situation better, not losing all three keepers and then having to play 5 consecutive midweek games in February we'd probably have picked up that extra point.

That said we've got to fight to retain 7th place as both Utd. & Well could go past us.

Heads up and we can still make it a decent season...

  10. Just pointing out you'd conveniently forgotten the racist aspect to the story but that's the oaksoft I've come to know and love...

Apart from that I can't see anything relevant, just deflection - and a lot of it for someone who "couldn't give a shit".

I couldn't give a shit what Andrew Neil or anyone else wants. We don't live in anything like Victorian Era conditions. Period. Claiming that we do is the furthest thing from a "nuanced" argument that I've read on here for a while and overblown overly emotional nonsense which should be rightly placed in the bin.

The Uber victory was a very good case in point. Those drivers won a case which guaranteed them a minimum wage (it should have been the living wage but a victory is a victory). Which part of that is Victorian Era?

Nobody is denying that some people have great difficulties in their lives but what you are suggesting is just laughable nonsense.

Which part of a national minimum wage in general is reminiscent of the Victorian Era?

Which part of having a health care system free at the point of need is reminiscent of the Victorian Era?

Which part of the greater equality for minority groups, homosexuals and women is reminiscent of the Victorian Era?

Which part of our obesity crisis is reminiscent of the Victorian Era?

Which part of millions of us (pandemic allowing) taking multiple holidays abroad is reminiscent of the Victorian Era?

If you're going to successfully argue a point, you might want to be a bit less emotional when you post.

    Victorian era? Ridiculous.

One Conservative MP said "Love the flag or leave the country" a clear racist attack on Munchetty conveniently overlooking the fact that it was her white, male co-presenter Charlie Stayt who initiated the joke, there's a Culture War going on whether you choose to believe it or not. Nuance is clearly lost on you, but what era do you think Andrew Neil and his soon to be launched Alt-Right news channel (GB News) want to push us back to?

It's a constant struggle over many issues, economic & social, but I was cheered up by the victory for the little people over Uber the other day...

  12. Just catching up on the news after 4 days at work and am amazed at the Naga Munchetty/Union Jack furore - not her biggest fan but this time I'm on her side.

Prob'ly shouldn't be amazed though as it been clear for the last few years that "the Left" are losing the Culture Wars and that society is going back to the Victorian Era double quick style.
