  1. Heading through from darkest Fife with three generations of Saints fans today(daughter's first game, but son already a grizzled long suffering Bud like his grandad). I'm really excited about this one, feels like a new start, although it's our third game. A win would be massive, building confidence and a platform for the rest of the season.

Hope we come out and have a real go today, pushing the game, attacking with pace. Would definitely have Thommo on the bench, coming on to grab a goal in the last 20. COYS!

  2. Got a good feeling about Calum joining us. Hope he's read that article, about Warburton not rating him and he gets some sort of runout tomorrow. Looks like he knows where the goal is and he has something to prove. Imagine he grabs a cheeky goal and we get some sort of result. The Orcs in meltdown. We can but dream.

  3. I have been in correspondence with JD customer service after I was asked to rate their service for my order for my sons junior kit.

I have just been told that they will NOT be restocking the junior home shirt. This leaves me with a pair of socks and shorts for a junior kit but no shirt!

Although they have offered me 10% of my next purchase as a gesture of goodwill.

FFS, this just keeps getting worse. Unbelievable that kids can't get a Saints top. Easier to get a local junior team shirt for our sprogs. I've got a bad feeling about the kid's away shirts too, when they finally release the away kit in time for the Christmas sales.

  4. Be interesting to see how his career develops. When he first came into the side he was fantastic, mainly due to his work ethic and reading of the game to steal the ball off players toes. He was a good role model to kids, tearing about the park getting in the oppositions' faces and getting stuck in, without being dirty. I think last season he started believing his own hype and tried to be a player he clearly isn't, attempting Keoman cross-field passes or his infamous step-over and he lost possession more than any other player. He can be a really effective player, but isn't a 'footballer' in the way McLean, Mallen and the little I've seen of Agnew are.

Yes, there's little loyalty in football anymore and it is a job, but hopefully McGinn has the two brain cells to rub together or even the class to give a wee thank you to the team that he has been at since he was 8. His interview on BBC website sadly lacks this, but it might have been edited out. He's obviously delighted to leave us and will be on much a better wage(4 year contract too), but he must have some good memories and appreciate the fortune of lifting a cup with us at such a young age.

Time to move on and hope he gets a midfielding lesson against us this season.

  5. Wee man's long sleeved top just arrived today, after his short sleeved order was cancelled like all the other kid's ones. Surprise, surprise, he can't get his head through it, so yet again he's left absolutely gutted. The neck is tiny, like the short sleeved ones, but obviously some of the long sleeved ones are the same. The piss-up in brewery scenario continues.

Why the f**k have these idiots at JD still got them available on their website. It's an absolute disgrace.

Hopefully the team will put a smile back on his and my face today.

    COYS!!

  6. Does anyone remember a game back in the early to mid 80's when we either drew or beat the blue bigots? An 8 or 9 year old me was in the old enclosure at Love Street with my dad, who had warned me not to celebrate if we scored, as we were surrounded by the usual scary knuckle-draggers that took over the place when we played them.

We scored(possibly Cowboy McCormack) and I bit my lip and just about stayed calm. Then near the end they got their usual soft penalty. Their fans were celebrating it like a goal. Robert Prytz stepped up and Thompson saved it. I couldn't contain myself and sprung into the air. As I came back down to the ground a middle aged Rangers fan spat in my 9 year old face. That was the start of my hatred of 'them'.

Anyway, it wasn't an amazing save, as it was a shite penalty, but it's probably my most memorable one, for a bad and great reason(think we stuffed them 1-0, but I could be totally wrong?)

  7. Got exactly the same email from them. JD are a nightmare. They also totally arsed up an order for a Scotland top for the wee lad last year for his Christmas. Ended up not managing to get one. You'd think with the fortune they charge for fitba kits nowadays they would make it an easy process, getting us to part with our hard earned pennies.

  8. Watched them last night and a must for all Saints fans. Really interesting viewing and makes you realise how lucky we were to have such a good player for so many years. Brought back great memories of watching brilliant players at Love Street when I was a nipper too. Reaffirms Fitzy's legend status. Ta for the heeds up.

  9. Frustrating player and shocking last season, as were a lot of the team. Scored 3 in 44, a couple of them important ones, but how many did we see him cause against us with bottling tackles or not tracking back? If he wasn't lazy then he had no concept of what playing for a team looks like. Agree that he seems a decent enough guy and I wish him good luck, but another waste of a Saint's shirt that Murray can hopefully fill with better.

  10. Why should it affect any relationship between club and player? I handle claims like this from time to time and the outcome is very often delivered with a smile and a handshake (though rarely an apology), especially when there has been real and proven harm to an employee who carries absolutely no blame. it would be immature, mean spirited and irresponsible of any employer to sour the relationship with someone who was a good employee affected in this way.

John Hillcoat took legal advice to get released from his contract when he was a junior player and was welcomed back to the club several years later. It will only be ill-informed supporters who think there is some disloyalty or acrimony here-everyone else will be business like and professional about the whole thing.

FFS, is the guy just meant to take something like that

The club will undoubtedly close this out with dignity and maturity, i wish some of the posters on here would do the same

You're a lot more clued up in these legal matters than me and if McGinn taking the club to court is the correct procedure, then so be it. He should be compensated if he has lost money. It will be great if it's sorted out with everyone's dignity intact.

Still don't think the club, Thompson and McGinn will enjoy it being dragged through the media again.

  11. Will do.

You think kids wont like these type of holidays but these are the holidays that stick in the head. Have been reading up on trip adviser for things to do on Islay out with the whisky tours. Quite a good few things for children so worth a read.

The say Ardbeg has the best café.

Rothesay used to go on holiday there quite a lot as a child so fond memories. Then went to work there in the early 80's and loved it. The wife is from the East Coast had never set foot on Bute.

She fell in love with the place bought a holiday flat. Then decided to sell up in Lochwinnoch and move there into the flat. Both of us have never looked back.

Ta for the info, will check it out. Nice part of the world where you are and great story. I've magic memories of playing footie on the beach at Ettrick Bay and watching the 82 World Cup on an old black and portable. The amusements and castle were a highlight too. Even the Saints were a great team back then. Happy days.
  12. Taking the wife and kids over to Islay at the start of the school holidays. They're used to all inclusive in Majorca, so they're in for a wee culture shock. The kids need to experience the short trousers and wellies holiday in Scotland before they too old to punch me. (Ahh, happy memories of Arran and Rothsey 30 odd years ago.)

Like my Islay malts, but don't reckon the rest of them will be into a different distillery tour every day. You could maybe give me a heeds up if one of the tours stands out. Enjoy your drams.

Oops, Rothesay. (Was only 7 last time I was there)
  13. Going to Islay in 2 weeks time for 4 days myself. Whisky touring cant wait.

September Minorca for me and the wife.

Daughter 21 in December coming home from Australia. What would you like princess - Oh some where exotic just me you and mum. GULP !

  14. Saw him play for Dumbarton against Dundee a year ago at Dens when the Dee won promotion. He was the best player on the park and scored, albeit a pen. Was really confident on the ball, skilful and was right up for it. If it happens, it could be a very good piece of Championship business.

  15. I hope David Longwell remains at the club for many years to come.

Keep up the good work David! :-)

My mate's 14 year old son has just signed for us. His dad and him are not Buddies, but were impressed by our youth setup. He was at Queens Park and I believe Sevco were wanting him too, but he/dad chose Saints after training with and meeting with David Longwell.

Hopefully he'll turn into a Saints legend, with Longwell's guidance.

  16. I've got a real team-worn shirt (No4) of that shirt. Not sure which player would have worn it though. The days before squad numbers would have seen more than one player wear it.

Fitzy, Aber, Richardson, Stark??? All complete guesses, was only 6 or 7 at the time. Nice piece of a Saints history to have.
