Thank god it's official was beginning to worry that Baird went before this was definitely going to happen. Did well at Kilmarnock so expect he will again do us a turn

He hasn't actually signed yet though according to BBC. Hope it's not just a rumour. Sure he could do us another turn and quite surprising Kilmarnock released him

Lots of positives about today. Once again we look well organised and understand one another. Allowed rangers very little opportunities and created the odd chance ourselves. Bit too deep at times especially second half leaving players often without an outback. Felt we struggled to change our tactics following the goal and it would have been worth more of a push for an equaliser. Having said that keeping the score to one might be important late on in the season. Next three game will tell us much more about what this team are capable of. Cannot wait

Can't quite remember the last time l enjoyed a home match so much, even in the championship winning season. Did not hear a single derogatory comment against our players throughout game and enthralled by some of our attacking moves and much improved defensive and midfield displays. A week is a long time in politics and in football it would appear. Cannot wait for rest of the season noe

Agree weather slight concern, particularly given forecast for heavy downpours during game. Recall Ross county game being abandoned while we were winning well. Looking forward to game nevertheless especially after recent signings and promising performance last week

Looks evident the club feels he is finished as a top player and based on advice have decided it is not financially viable to pursue this. Feel really sorry for the lad

Would be a good idea if we could afford it. Some simple advice might help though just as much.
A. When you cross a ball the idea is to put it in the box not out the park.
B. When a cross is coming in it is a really good idea to get players in the box to receive it
C. It is a really good idea for strikers to poach about and anticipate a mistake or loose ball
These snippets might just improve our goal ratio. They were badly lacking last season -
Not been a great start. Am hopeful that Goodwin will make a right go of managing us but fearful we have financially ruined the relatively healthy position we were on a year ago with all the events since and this will be our undoing this season. I hope l am wrong.

It's awful to watch but it is effectively pre season and we look unfit and well off pace. League cup again seems too early for us not helped by biannual changes of manager

I don't think any/many are seeing our situation being down to Goodwin?
He's been pretty much seen as the best option we had in somewhat strange circumstances.
It's the lack of action on incoming players that is looking like a concern.
The ITK crew told us it's under control, things were in place and the departure of Kearney wasn't an issue as we had Gus working furiously behind the scenes with a list.
We are under a week before we play our first official game, which I'm sure will be seen as meaningless by some, and we are less than prepared.

Fair comment as was thoughts of Magnus. My reaction was more aimed at what Goodwin will have been able to achieve in that space of time, the wider issues over recruitment and timing are all perfectly valid. However, if Kearney and board had pressed ahead before his departure would Goodwin be sitting with a number of players he didn't want? Proof will be in the pudding over next few weeks -

Will miss this as still in Cornwall. However on the plus side the weather has been glorious unlike in sunny Barrhead. Will be back for Wednesday game

Penalised for being quick to react... Quick enough to save a penalty despite the new rules.
Why not just handcuff the keeper to one post?
I checked today older rules concerning penalties as l seemed to recall keepers being unable to move their feet at all until the kick was taken. Sure enough that part of the rules was only removed in 1997. In many respects keepers have been given too much leeway for the last twenty years. A penalty should penalise the team who committed the foul. I taught lee Alexander and feel for her and the team but the rules changed three weeks ago and given what was seen throughout this tournament and indeed in our playoff keepers need to recognise and train to adhere to new rules. I blame the manager anyway for the result as after they scored their first it was evident fresh legs were required. At least my pupils were able to experience the misery of Scotland missing out on qualifying during finals for the first time -
This thread has as with so many descended into a vitriol of abuse between the chosen few who have plenty to say about each other but little concerning football or st mirren. Tony is over the top and over ambitious but who really cares?? A quality coach that we can hold onto for a number of years, with an eye for a player without relying on lots of cash, and a consistently productive academy system will produce regular top 6 results and the real possibility of a Kilmarnock esque season. St Johnstone have shown us this over many seasons, Clarke at killie has shown how a good coach can create a genuinely competitive side, our away support has demonstrated what we can contribute to Scottish football. Will it happen? Probably not, but what's the harm in dreaming big??

At the end of the day l seldom buy a strip. Away strip l quite like and whilst l am in the camp of more stripes on a home kit, suspect this juventus style top will look much better on the pitch with numbers and names on back than it does on our model

Fast forward three or four years. Kearney has secured a succession of reasonably comfortable bottom six finishes, a couple of good cup runs and the knives are out because we are playing a bland brand of football a la Danny Lennon. I hope some fans don't forget too to quickly the post Lennon pre Jack fiasco we endured

Increased attendances come with a successful and entertaining team on the park. Am pleased we were able to keep attendances up this season despite how we fared for much of it but retaining those who turn up for the big and crucial matches requires a better product on the park. That's why Kilmarnock managed to boost figures

Apart from offside goal didn't test keeper once. Better pace in attack first half but wing play gets insufficient support coming into box and delivery is not consistently good enough. Defending is solid and midfield works hard. Would start Mullen and obika though. We will go down unless we sort attack
